I would put the local Lane County Saturday Farmers Market against any of them for local in-season fruit, produce, eggs, meats, and baked goods and many other local products. It runs 11 months of the year. I can be found there at opening every Saturday unless we are out of town. Everything sold fresh is local and in season. Prepared food is made from local ingredients, mostly organic. On any given Saturday there are four or six bakeries with very fresh baked goods available with some of the best bread, croissants equal to Paris bakeries, many, many sweet and savory pastries. Many rural farm stands are represented with their complete in-season produce, fruit and vegetables. There are always three or four booths selling foraged mushrooms in season with a great variety of cultivated ones as well. Several vendors raise and sell the best eggs I have ever eaten. If you beat me there, you might get some double yoked ones, but they sell out fast. Meat for the freezer, fresh fish and canned fish, several hot food venders and if you can manage tastes in the morning several local pot distilleries are showing up these days. Everyone is pleasant and helpful and the culture is one of cooperation and helping other venders and customers so that all are successful. Come and check it out. The new pavement makes it easy to move around, stay dry. There are tables for you to eat your hot food. Don't forget to take some flowers home for the vase from the four or five vendors who are there regularly. The large open building houses about a third of the vendors with large open doors, the rest bring their own tents and the outdoor arrangement is easy to change for the day. You come too, but save a little bit for me!

It's nice to have a place to support local vendors and businesses. Everyone one there is friendly and love their products. My favorite stand is the Horai coffee and bakery stand and the fresh vegetable stands. I can't wait until summer when tomatoes will be in season.

But they've got some fancy new digs with this permanent structure. It's not much more than walls and a roof, but that's useful for this type of market since the stalls might vary in size depending upon the vendor. There are vendors both in and outside the structure, selling baked goods (bagels, cookies, hot dogs, etc.), meats, flowers, fruits and veggies, you name it. And it's nice to be out of the rain for at least part of the time, which is oh so common in Eugene. They have a bathroom (an all-user bathroom, great!) but I'm not sure if it's just far too small or what. We didn't need it, thankfully, because there was a line out the door of the bathroom. This seems to be the biggest flaw with the building--not sure they really planned well in this case.

The space was huge - they used the performance halls at the fairgrounds. It was busy and loud, but I was able to find all kinds of things there. There was no cost to get in which I appreciated. My partner was able to get Christmas gifts for people he'd been struggling to shop for, so that was a relief. Parking at the fairgrounds is ample and I had no problem finding a place to park. Getting in and out was also super easy. No cost to park, an added perk. We had lunch here and were glad we did. I had the mushroom mac from The Mac and it was good, but a bit congealed since it had been sitting for a while. My partner had the chicken and rice plate from Irie, the Jamaican booth, and it was so so good. The rice was incredibly well-seasoned and the chicken melted in our mouths. I would definitely get that plate myself next time. Overall I'm glad I gave the Holiday Market a try after living in Eugene for three years. I'll probably go every year now.

There are also local food vendors there, as well as live entertainment going on. There is something for everyone! I found an amazing piece of art for my office, some reusable household products, Christmas gifts, and more while I was there. If you are wanting to support small, local, friendly, and simply amazing local businesses this holiday season, you need to visit the holiday market. You won't be disappointed! Would I return? Absolutely. I had such a great time. Definitely worth a return visit next year.

We've been buying products from Matthew for years now, but he only just officially incorporated his business. He's a fully licensed hunter and mushroom gatherer/seller who spends most of his free time going out into the woods in the Eugene/Cascades area to gather and hunt his own wild foods. We reap the benefits of his hard work, at prices that are very comparable to what you would find at the store/market. (Did you know most of the mushrooms at the Farmer's Market are actually farmed, not gathered?) He does everything he can to keep his prices as low as possible. We bought some chanterelles today at $10.50 a pound, and he delivered them to our door. For comparison, I noticed they were $16 today at Market of Choice, and those are farmed, not harvested fresh from the woods around Eugene. he's coming back tomorrow with porcini! We've bought a wide variety of stuff from Matthew, but we especially love the chanterelles. If he has time, he delivers them to our door too, often on the same day he found them. Unless you're gathering chanterelles in your won backyard, it doesn't get more fresh or local than that. His selections are obviously limited to the season, and to what he was able to find/hunt, but he posts what he found on their Facebook page, so you can easily see what's freshly available. That's the easiest way to get in touch with him too (at least for us, since we don't like to call people on the phone) And Matthew's extremely meticulous about cleaning his products too, so you'll get perfect mushrooms ready to go straight into your pan!

From shaved ice to vintage clothing and fresh veggies, you really can find some amazing treasures here. Every person I have met here whether it was a vendor or a passerby has been friendly and welcoming. You really do feel like you're a part of the community when you come here no matter who you are or where you are from. The market hosts yoga sessions, live music and open mic which gives artists an opportunity to showcase their talents. You can even use your EBT card to shop here for fresh food which is amazing! I've purchased essential oil sprays, yummy homemade snacks, organic makeup and my mom even had her tarot cards read.
