I had a very positive experience visiting Game Night Games for the first time last week. They helped me locate the game I came in initially looking for- but when I second guessed my choice of birthday gift for my spouse they helped me deliberate between two games based on our personal gaming preferences. Selection isn't quite as big as some other game stores I've visited in the Valley, likely because they just don't have enough storefront space for it, but I think the gaming space in the back is a worthwhile sacrifice for the community aspect. Game prices are recommended market value, but they did have a small sale and used section. The used section was priced fairly, pretty in line with what I see from hobbyists on FB groups and marketplace. read more

The employees here are nice and helpful, but unfortunately there's not a great selection of card packages. The only times I've seen a good selection is with recent releases. In addition, searching for singles is tucked away so you have to use the computer in the very back of the store, which isn't well highlighted unless you ask. Everything is relatively priced at MSRP, so you won't be charged insane rates if you do find something you're looking for to add to your collection. I will say that their amount of card game supplies is very well equipped. If you ever need boxes or sleeves they have plenty! I would recommend coming here for supplies to elevate your card game experience! read more

This is my go to Table top game store in all of Utah. This place rules if you are an avid game night host or have a consistent group of board game players who are willing to learn new games! I love their inventory's variety, the big problem I find with board game stores is that they over saturate their inventory to just cater to DND players. I find Game night games always has a wide variety of unique board games and anytime I go to just get a new game their staff are always kind and helpful. They also have a points rewards program by phone number which I have never had at other board game shops. Through their program I was able to get the game secret hitler for half price! I feel like this is a great spot to check out if you're looking for something new to try or even looking for DND materials. I've never joined but they do host campaign nights for DND players as well, given the pleasant staff I Imagine their community is nice to campaign with as well. Overall if you like the physical nature of going out to peep at new games to bring over for game night then I urge you to check out game night games. read more

My guy is big on board games, so we planned a visit here to play some games either with each other or some locals. Arrived to a space that is half game shop, half gaming space- but with a D&D event in full swing with multiple tables. Great to see that there's apparently a thriving local scene but it meant our plan didn't quite work out. Browsed the selection and made a game out of seeing who could find games we owned on the shelves. Pricing was pretty fair here, with more high-rating games than "filler games" (ie 10 different versions of Clue). Found a score on card holders, and interacted a bit with staff who were friendly and knowledgeable. Great spot for the community! read more

I can't recommend this place enough. I wish there was a branch in every city. They have a huge game selection, neatly organized, and with prices that are similar to what you'd get online. They have a nice discount area. But best of all, they have an awesome back area to test out any games that you're interested in! What an innovative and useful idea! Excellent selection, and a highly educated staff. If you are looking for a board game, card game, or any other game, then this is your spot. For Christmas we were looking to give the card game Coup as co-worker/neighbor gifts (it's a family favorite game, in case you are looking for a new one), but we struck out at every Walmart and Target we tried. One call to GNG yielded dozens of sets of Coup (but they now have 15 fewer)--they even had Coup Reformation! I was very impressed with the store, the layout, and wide variety of games. Before coming here, I called them to see if they had the game "saboteurs." The guy on the phone asked me to repeat what I said 5x before saying...."OHHhHH you mean SCATTERGORIES" -_________-" After I spelt out Saboteurs, he finally said that they didn't have that game. Because of that phone call I ended up going to 4 other shops to try and find the game I was looking for. I don't know what it was, but a part of me wanted that game sooooo bad that I ended up at Gamenight anyways. Perhaps I was wishing it suddenly appeared even after the guy on the phone told me they didn't have it. Well lo and behold, upon arriving, I went straight to the cashier counter and asked 1 of 2 workers if they had Saboteurs, and YES they did!!! They even had Saboteurs 2!!!!!!! Haha, I swear I don't have that bad of an accent so I don't know what happened with that initial phone call. Luckily I came here or else I would have been really sad. Saboteurs is such a fun card game. I give this place a 4 stars despite the phone call experience because of the vast selection of games and the reasonable price that matches amazon's pricing. This place has a huge selection of board games!! All different types, strategy, party, tabletop, card, family friendly. I love board games and they have a lot that I had never seen before, it is refreshing not to see the same old games over and over again. They have a big open area in the back full of tables that you can play their demo games on. If you don't know how to play a game the staff is happy to teach you and probably play with you. They have a used game section that is usually around 50% off and all the games are in really great condition. If you have a game that you don't care for (and I'd still in good condition) you can bring it in and they will give you store credit for it. The staff is helpful, but not too pushy which I appreciate. They also have a rewards program where you get 5% back from purchases in store credit, so be sure to sign up, it only takes a minute. read more

The prices suck. I've got to get that out of the way first. You'll be paying much more than you would at Amazon or a few other places. For example, Ticket to Ride is $49.95 here and $36.99 on Amazon. If you can look past the fact that you won't be getting a great deal, they do have a lot to offer. Their selection is huge. I find games I've never heard of, expansions to games I never knew existed, and more. They've got everything you could ever need or ask for and plenty more things that you didn't know you needed. They've got a good amount of in store gaming and events as well. I haven't taken the chance to go try one out, but it looks like it's well organized and they have them for a good amount of games. Going back to the prices, that is what makes it hard for me to give a good review here. I essentially come here to window shop and then order on Amazon. I rarely need a new game or expansion immediately, so I use my Prime shipping and get it 2 days later for a much better price. I wish I could give a higher review, maybe an event and lower prices would help that. read more

We've been going to Game Night Games since the first week they opened. We were fairly new to board games back then. I am so pleased to see that they are still going strong. Tim, Mike, Phil and the rest of the gang are extremely knowledgable and passionate about games. Mike and Phil have also designed their own games (I never played Phil's game, but Mike's game is pretty fun). There is a terrific group of board game designers that meet at Game Night Games so there are a few Utah games that are getting national and even international attention. Board games are a terrific way to bring the family together and I suspect Euro-style games can also make kids smarter. All of the kids I've seen playing are pretty smart. If you don't know where to start, ask the pros. If they have time they'll even get you started on one of the tester games so you can try before you buy. The games are pricey, but the game pieces are high quality and the replayability for these games make them a great value. We've got close to 200 games now and most of those came from Game Night Games. Yes, we've played all of them. There are special game events, tournaments, game releases and every week most of the year there are kids days on Saturdays. So if you're looking for something different to do, drop by Game Night Games. I stopped in for the first time EVER at Game Night Games while looking for... well... games. With how much my friends and I are into the board-gaming, I'm a little disappointed it's taken me this long to check out this awesome place that can so easily facilitate our needs. The location of GNG is very convenient; nestled in a cute area in the Sugahouse hood along 9th East. I didn't know what to expect when entering the store mid-day on a Saturday, but as soon as we walked in, we were greeted with an almost overwhelming selection of games, as well as excited and boisterous conversations from the back game room. After just a quick tour around the south wall, I immediately found games I've been interested in for a while. It seems like it's common place to price watch things on Amazon, and for months I had Codenames and Colt Train Express on my watch list. I stood in the store and compared the prices asked for these games at GNG to those on Amazon, and honestly - the prices aren't bad at all at Game Night. (For both Codenames and Colt Train, it was only about a 5$ difference between their prices and Amazon's). So of course I had to purchase them stat, and I also enjoyed the fact I could support Local Utah. The employees here were very helpful. I've been searching out two games in particular: Pandemic Legacy & Two Rooms and a Boom, so after scavenging, I went up to talk with an employee about the prospect of them. Without even a quick internet research sesh, one man was already on top of everything, letting me know that Pandemic Legacy is currently out of print but should be coming back soon, and that Two Rooms and a Boom has not made it to the US yet. What. These guys seriously know their game information. He didn't use cheat sheets or anything. All this happened while the noises of excitement and fun were going on in the back of the store. They have a great area in which you can gather to play your favorite games, while exploring new ones. It'd be a great place to play endlessly as well as to help kick-start your obsession with... Maaagic! Serious. Game Night Games is definitely going to be on my list for future game stops. With as much knowledge as the employees have here, I would feel very confident leaving with a game that I'd very much love. I'm excited to stop back in again and see what else I can grab. First, I'd like to say thank you to this business for being open on a Sunday in SLC. Not a lot to do in this town on a Sunday, so even the limited hours here kept our day from being a total bust. We have visited a lot of game stores in the past, and this one may be the prettiest we've ever seen! A really nice design they have here, and the organization and well though-out displays made it enjoyable to peruse. There wasn't a lot going on in the table area, but it looked like a fun place to hang out. The selection was very good, much better than any in our town, but not the best I've ever seen, either. Of course, it was only a few days before Christmas, so that might explain the absence of many of the newer and more popular games...still, we would have spent more money here if their stock was more up to date. We were, though, extremely happy to see a Used Game section, which is something we would like to see a lot more of everywhere, and Husband found a game that he really wanted in there for half off, so what a score! Overall, we were very glad we visited, although a little disappointed that we couldn't find more to buy. read more

Make sure you have a receipt for anything you buy. We bought a chess set and when I opened it, it did not have a rook. They refused to exchange it or do anything without a receipt. Back to talk to the manager tomorrow which might raise my rating if they are reasonable but this is a terrible policy in this day and age for a local merchant trying to attract new customers. Update: Went back today. The clerk recited their hideous policy, even after I showed him my credit card activity, which I printed, in lieu of a receipt. HOWEVER, he consequently ignored the policy and gave me store credit. So, good clerk, bad store policy. Upgrade to 2 stars. read more

We really like this store. It has a nice selection, and the staff are very pleasant and helpful, if a bit nerdy at times, but hey they're gamers. They clearly are enthusiastic about their industry, which overall I find to be a big plus. The back part of the store is a gaming area with lots of tables. They have many opened-up games you can try out, and they encourage you to join in the fun. Their staff have introduced me and my kids to Blokus and Spot-It, etc. My family & I often eat at the Boardwalk Pizza next door, then stop in here to play a boardgame. I've bought a lot of games here (including a nice chess set), and been completely happy with all of them. read more

Being a competitive person with an obsessive personality is not a good combination. I was the kid that cried when I missed a pop fly in little league, or obsessed over beating Super Star Wars (and still can't, who made that game anyway, Yoda?). It's also very expensive, seeing as athletics only go so far with so many people. I walked into Game Night Games completely ready to plague my nights with a new addiction and left utterly satisfied. The amount of board games alone is enough for 7 year old me to sell a metric ton of lemonade to one day afford and eventually loathe. And I mean that as endearingly as possible. Although I didn't go for the board games, I will be, and I know that the owner Tim, and his passionate staff, will be fully able to fit me into the perfect box of my particular Pandora. It's relatively inexpensive if you shop regularly for board games, and trading cards, but what keeps me and many so loyal to the locally owned shop is the community it perpetuates, and takes great pains to facilitate for a wonderful experience for all ages in all types of games. I was nervous walking into my first official tournament for a game I still had not fully grasped, but the staff and even opponents were so friendly, and helpful it kept me into not only the game but going back, and getting more friends to follow. So great marketing to begin with, but there is very few things 8 people can each spend 15 dollars on, play from 9pm-4am, and leave completely satisfied with. My only complaint is that 7 year old me didn't have this place back home, but maybe that's for the best anyways. read more

Game Night Games has a terrible return policy - no opened products (shrink wrap) are accepted for any kind of return. I came in this store on Christmas Eve to pick up some kind of game to play with my siblings. The store staff were helpful and after some back and forth, recommended "Battleground: Historical Warfare Second Punic War" which we purchased. Our request to the staff was a game that was not too hard to learn so we could enjoy it that evening. I don't know if you are familiar with the Battleground series of games, but needless to say this was not a game for one casual night of entertainment. It is super involved with a 50 page rulebook for the basic game and involves measuring distances on a table (!) and keeping track of dozens of units individual movements and hit points, etc, all while attempting to remember which of the dozens of rules governing movement, combat, etc, apply to any given step. After an hour and a half of puzzling over the rulebook, trying to watch an instructional video, and one very unsatisfying attempt at a game, we admitted defeat and gave up. This isn't a knock against the game, which probably has its fans, bit in this reviewers opinion, if I wanted something this complex I would just go buy a computer game with better graphics and a built in tutorial. We went back to playing Scrabble. The problem arose with returning this product to Game Night Games - how can you expect customers to come into an admittedly niche store and take a risk on your products without a decent return policy? The staff were nice enough and offered to buy it back as a used game (after one aborted attempt at playing this game) but this return policy is untenable and frankly ridiculous in this day and age. Thank goodness for AMEX Purchase Protection. I'd rather spend $5 on a decent multiplayer cellphone game than lay out $25 for a nonreturnable complex card game. If you are going to run a store catering to a small group of gamer fanatics, good on you, but Game Night Games is not getting my business again. Bottom Line: If you know what you want, buy it online somewhere that takes returns. If you're not part of this store's niche target demographic, save yourself the effort and don't go in. read more

When I'm looking for a new game, this is usually the first place I stop and look. They've got a good selection that is broken down into categories so it's easy to browse. They've got a section for new games that have just come out. The staff is pretty helpful and last time I was there, I had a couple of employees ask if we needed any help picking something out.
