This store is awesome for all of you war gaming and tcg needs. The staff is super friendly. The community is awesome I have met so many new people that are becoming greats friends. The Thursday commander scene is awesome always packed with regulars and new people. I really enjoyed when I was just learning commander that people had lower power decks and would answer my questions and point out my misplays as they were great for learning the game. The Friday night draft crew is pretty awesome everyone is super fun play against. Super helpful when a new set come outs and helping you build after draft. The selection of war gaming stuff is pretty good too, with everything being priced reasonably well, and a community that if you have questions there is someone who will have an answer, or can point you to some awesome resources. Game Ogre is awesome. Easily the best game store in the Thousand Oaks area. The store is organized well and clean as can be. Store ownership is generally extremely kind - Eric is a champ and the other employees are great as well. It runs a lot of events for mtg, 40k, AoS, D&D, etc. Really solid selection. Only downside is some of the MTG regulars. As you'd expect, most game stores attract a certain demographic of people that often have superiority complexes within their hobby, so you end up with lots of the older guys being condescending, rude, arrogant, and generally unlikable about their children's card games at events like Friday Night Magic (such as community all-star Jeff H). Also a lot of them smell really bad, it's becoming a serious issue at larger events. The 40K community is fantastic, though and so is the D&D and other misc games. They have a ton of models to purchase for whatever your game is, an excellent paint selection, as well as a ton of cards for purchasing impacts or individually. Also, the accessories like card holders, dice bags, and everything else is great. My son loves going through the individual Pokémon cards as well as the packs The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful and happy to explain something that may be out of your particular realm of nerdom with excitement. Yesterday my best friend and I came in to play our first game of warhammer together. Walking in on a Sunday we found the store fairly busy with most tables being used. After finding a unused table we brought our models in which Dave I believe invited us to grab terrain and everyone was very inviting. Once our models and terrain were setup I bought some dice as I'd forgotten some things and a local player offered us his extra tape measure and a codex to use. It was this kind gesture that solidified this as The Friendly Local Gaming Store. What a fun time spend rolling dice and checking out tons of sweet models. I was trying to find an expansion for my favorite board game. The game is out of print but their website showed that they had 1 copy left. Unfortunately they currently don't do shipping and I live half way across the country in Wisconsin. As a last ditch effort to get this, I called and spoke with the manager named Eric. He not only was able to find the 1 copy of it that they had in the store, but agreed to help me ship the game despite not having the system set up for it. What a fine game shop! Places like this are rare and almost never as nice as they've done it here. The only thing which I've honestly gotta know a star off for is size & therefore the limited depth of inventory. Super nice staff with a preferred customer card which provides a free gift card once you've spent $150 in-store. Interesting.... They do have a great selection of certain things. For what matters to me it works! Role playing Miniatures and I found a deluxe Ogre game (kick starter best edition) ... Paints n' nice brushes. Plus they have a reasonable range of games n tournaments hosted. Some of which are of interest to me which warrant inspection. So yeah... They get an easy for... Maybe 5 stars except it needs a larger facility and triple the inventory to warrant a true 5 stars. read more

I'd like to tell you a story that might help you imagine what kind of store this place is. I was hanging out after work and doing some painting, when someone came in looking for a 40k game. Brian (the owner) asked me if I'd play with him, but I told him I'd only brought in the few figures I was planning on painting. Brian directed me to the display case with his amazingly painted armies in it, and told me to pick one and have fun. Despite this store catering to Magic, D&D, 40k, and other hobbies, Brian really does his best to make sure everyone has a good experience. I do absolutely all of my hobby shopping through them; their rewards program and frequent sales make their pricing really competitive (even with online stores). Plus you should always support your friendly local game store to make sure you have a place to play. Excellent service and recommendations! Went in to check out the warmachines scene... unfortunately I'm a rare breed. However I came in to get some new paint and supplies and the gentleman that worked there was extremely helpful. I just showed him a color scheme I was interested in and he pointed out every single color I needed. I was even looking for a wash but he informed me that it may not be necessary for what I'm trying to accomplish. Love a story that isn't trying to make a dollar out of me. Great experience with customer service today with these guys. They used to be local to me. Now a bit out of the way, but today's experience will have me driving out there more often. Was looking for Star Wars Destiny starter packs and at this point they are near impossible to find. Messaged these guys and they were out of stock, of course. I've been a Game Ogre regular for years. Several times a week I'd find myself there, playing board games, roleplaying games, card games, or learning some strange new miniature game. When I was told they were going to move, I was a bit upset. Their new location was a bit of a hike for me. But, I recently was working at a job out that-a-way way and I stopped in one night. Needless to say, I've been back several times since my first visit. The new store is more open, since it's several times larger than the old store. Tables and product that were once cramped up against walls with players are now free and open to play at. The owner, Brian knows how to play just about every single game he's got stocked on the shelves. I've taken him up on several occasions to learn (and be handily beat at) some new board or miniature game. They've got a few bookshelves full of games that you can learn to play (and also buy) right there in the store. Each and every night they've got a different thing going on. Be it Magic the Gathering night, Roleplaying Game night, Board game night, Miniature game night...there's always something going on. There's a great big calendar also posted at the store to tell you what game is playing on what night. I'm there often on RPG night, which is currently Wednesdays. They've got a huge assortment of products that they sell. They sell a multitude of miniature gaming supplies, they've got a bookshelf full of RPG materials and the store is stocked with shelves chock full of interesting, strange, and wacky board games on all subjects and learning levels. Their new location has a great many things near it. There have neighbors of several great restaurants, as well as a pavilions grocery store within very easy walking distance. So those extended games of fantasy and wonder can be quickly and easily broken up for sustenance to appease even the pickiest of appetites. This place is awesome. The staff is excellent, and will politely stop what they are doing to help you to learn any game you're interested in learning. I'm sure I will return again and again and again. Great job Game Ogre.
