As soon as you grab the door handle to enter Game Quest the problems begin. The handle was loose and awkward step up into the building almost made me and my son fall. It is very dusty and dirty with a gross coat of grime on the items. The store is cluttered and unorganized making it difficult to find items of interest. There are hazards everywhere including random boxes of merchandise (Skylanders) in the middle of walking areas. It's very difficult to find help with making a purchase & the staff is rude and indifferent if you make a purchase or sell items or not. I was insulted by a staff member for asking when they would be buying gaming items. It was my mistake for visiting this store multiple times with the same experience. I love supporting local businesses but Game Quest has no business being in business. It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt unless management cleans house. Brian and his crew are top notch folks that genuinely love what they do. I'm not much of a gamer, but I do collect classic toys and they have the best selection I've seen anywhere remotely close to Amarillo. Who ever works the card desk should probably not be in a customer facing role. Treated me like an idiot because I asked about purchasing cards, since they somehow had only lorcana sets available. Asked if they bought through tcgplayer, since Day2 does, and the guy snorted at me, turned away to look through the cards he was holding and a different worker answered and said they didn't anymore. This is after he asked if I needed anything, by the way. read more

I love coming here for new releases of Pokemon cards. They never price gouged like some other stores during the recent times when sets were hard to find. We give out Pokemon cards to the patients in the pediatric clinic where I work. Game Quest was gracious in giving us a great deal to help us supply some cards for the patients. This is a great, fun store. Their specialities seem to be trading card games (especially Magic the Gathering - tournaments held here frequently) and retro video games. They have Atari, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega consoles (Genesis, CD, etc.) and even newer stuff like Playstation 2 and up, XBox, Wii. They have everything from the old games themselves to the console to play them on and all the periphery (controllers, memory cards, etc.). Prices were very reasonable. They accept trades and also do buys. A motto displayed on the signage for this store is "Buy, Sell, Trade almost anything of value" and they mean it. You could walk in with an antique lamp and walk out with a Nintendo console with the works. If it's worth something, they'll entertain a buy offer or trade-in for store credit. They also do disc resurfacing which is very important for we flea market skimmers (discs typically scratched). Talk to Brian, the owner. He's likely the biggest guy anywhere in that store the majority of them time. Looks like Penn Jillette of the magicians "Penn & Teller" (or does Penn look like Brian?). He's super friendly, always willing to try to gain a new loyal customer by trying to get you exactly what you're looking for, and (Pro Tip!) if you're buying quite a bit of stuff at one time (like $100+), he'll totally cut you a nice discount... he did for me! Like a pawn shop, the inventory changes on a daily basis. So, even if he doesn't have your favorite game today, tell him what you're looking for, and it may just show up. Things (even really rare games) just walk in off the street to be sold or traded-in here. Oh, and I didn't even really get into all the contemporary, not-your-grandmother's boardgames they carry, the vintage toys (StarWars, He-Man, generation 1 Transformers, etc. - many new in the packages), and comic books. I spoke to the owner Brian at YC3, he has been nice in the past and I have been extremely patient. He sold me a skate or die in box with the promise of a manual. I paid him the complete price on the game. It has been more than six months since that purchase. He claims it has been in his office all this time but was too messy. Then he uses the reason he was in San Diego California all this time. A month and a half ago. I called his store and the employee thought he heard me ask for the skate or die game and has me drive to the store wasting a trip. I told that employee to tell Brian to get me my damn manual. When I told him toda about that incident, he goes, "come on it's a manual." He also says I've been in San Diego, so I don't want to hear you complain about it. I said that I paid him for it as part of a complete price. He replies, "give me till Wednesday." If that's how you're going to be. He then says, get away from me and walks away. Buyer beware if you question him about his promise and are understandably upset about it. He becomes rude and ignorant. read more
