Traveled to the Garner location off Shenstone in White Oak from Brier Creek hoping I would have a better experience and be able to find the set. Same thing at first. The store was in a shambles and the pencil and pen section was a disaster. On top of that, there was a snake prop waiting for me in the aisle. If more attention had been paid to organizing and caring for the store, perhaps customers could find items they wanted more easily than having to hunt around basically on their own and avoid creepy life size Halloween decorations like I did. The person up front did a lightning quick check of what was "behind the cage" and said "nope, we don't have them, I'm sorry--sometimes the stock indicator online lies." I searched in the boxes above the trashed aisle where they had the pencils and pens and pulled out all the black drawers below and nothing. I noticed a very helpful attendant at the fabric section near the aisle I'd been searching in who was going above and beyond with those coming for fabric, but also with someone taking up crocheting for the first time. I knew if I was patient, she might be able to help me. I was right. I begged her to help me after waiting about 10 minutes for her to finish with the new to crochet person she was helping. Though it took some convincing, the huge difference was that she went to the front behind the cage and dug around for a good 10 minutes to unearth the set I was looking for and it meant so much to me after hunting around at 2 locations and nearly being turned away again. Many of the very young, inexperienced staff at both stores--bless their hearts--were over it and didn't much care. Not many people go the extra mile or do anything more than the bare minimum these days and it shows. I commend Liz for being the one who actually took the time and cared enough to actually help me. Next time, I think I'll save myself the huge hassle and order online and have the store or online fulfillment figure it out instead of the huge inconvenience and additional expense going from store to store. It's just not worth it. Five stars for Liz and going above and beyond for customers. Two stars for the condition the store was in and the overall poor reflection of customer care at multiple stores. Would I recommend this Michael's? Maybe, but only if Liz is on duty that day.

Huge selection for all my RC needs, from 1:28 scale mini z to 1:10 Traxxas. Had a lot of fun putting some laps on the mini z track and was able to race with the regulars which gave me a lot a advice and showed me their collections. Owner and his son walked me through the best and reasonable upgrades for my cars and ended up leaving very happy with new parts for my cars. Will definitely go back and most certainly do recommend to anybody!!!

All that considered, this place is a solid 5 stars if not 6 because of its uniqueness. I've walked in here many times over the years but it was nothing more than passing boredom and exploring the town. The last time I visited I decided to really get into it. We rented a Mini-Z race car for 30 minutes for $10. The owner lady really gave us about 40-45 minutes which my 11 year old son really enjoyed. But before we even had a chance to race our car, one of the regulars gave him one of his cars to "break in the tires" just as you would real race car tires. He loved it! And then another regular let him drive one of his 4x4 trucks up the crawler table! They have a huge racetrack that takes up most of the space. This is specifically for min-z RWD cars and other RWD cars. They have a bunch of spots on the floor marked where you should stand to race your car. Each car has a transponder and they have a computer system that can time each cars laps and determine the winner, supposedly this is even webcasted on Friday nights when they have all the pro's come in and race for real. But on a Saturday it's just regular people and kids coming to play. I believe the limit is six cars at a time and I have no idea how they handle a waitlist. The crawler track sits on the end of the racetrack and it's for 4x4's. It's on a pulley system so they can lift it up and extend the racetrack on Friday nights. However, outside directly in the back they have yet another 4x4 crawler area. Both tracks present their own unique challenges. All in all this is an amazing activity to do with family or friends that doesn't involve drinking. Fuquay-Varina has around 50 breweries now and 100 bars, some pretending to be restaurants, as of 2025, so finding non-alcoholic activities is great for when you need a break from all the beer. I didn't know they sell Lego and it's pretty much the same price as what you'd see on Amazon or at Kohls, so why not shop local? They obviously sell a ton of RC items such as cars, 4x4s, boats, planes. They sell all the accessories for them down to different sets of rims. They have model car building kits and supplies. Tons of hobby related items. If Christmas hadn't just passed I would probably have walked out with a 4x4 or RWD race car...so you know for sure I'll be back. If you buy your cars here you can use the tracks forever for free which is a huge perk!

He's going to tell you what his experience is, what's worked and what doesn't work. He points you to the right kits and the best bang for your buck- be that a scale 4wd crawler or a simple foam glider. He stocks the parts you'll need for kits he sells, and won't shy from sending you to a big box for something he can't stock at a reasonable price. Anna and Otto make this store feel like a home to all his guests. I think that's what their secret to success is. Come by, look around. They welcome all, and tirelessly answer questions. It is for the true hobbyist - I highly recommend checking it out if you're looking for some cool toys. They have drones, model trains, planes, and tanks. It is all very well laid out too. At the back of the store, they have all the train items and an elaborate running model train setup. We have a Lionel train set that we bring out for Christmas every year and this year it stopped working. We brought it straight to the Hayes Hobby House and a gentleman at the back fixed it for us and didn't charge us a thing. They are so unbelievably sweet. I will be back.

One thing they vastly excel at is finding something that will work when the part you need isn't available or in stock which can save your weekend. They have a great inventory of parts and when they order something there is no weeks of waiting like the chain store in town. I don't mind paying a premium (msrp) for parts when it comes with expertise like they offer.
