This beach is not quite up there with Waikiki in Honolulu, South Beach in Miami, Ocean Beach in SF, and Santa Monica in Los Angeles, as the top city beaches in the USA. However, who would have expected a legitimate beach right in midtown Manhattan?!? Plus points for views of WTC and Statue of Liberty. I love the vibe here on a cool September Saturday. Great place to chill, get cooled off in the beautiful Hudson Rio and sun tan. Always a new surprise in one of the world's great cities, NYC

I came here WOBBLED as I was 5/8ths through a full body cigar on my Sunday walk through the city. I was like "oh damn there's like sand and sh*t, it's like a cute little mini beach." I sat and read on one of the beach chairs for a bit, surrounded by kids playing in the sand which brought a big ole smile to this orangutan's face. Let the kids play! I did a quick google search and realized it had opened this month, which is October 2023 for people of the future reading this. We come in peace, future people. I snapped a couple pics of the park in case I would want to write a review on it later, but thought it would lay dormant in my camera roll for the rest of eternity like most things do. This morning I did a slightly more in depth google search on the park to see if it would spark any creative juices, and BOY did it. I found the craziest NY Times article on it ahahahaha my goodness. This thing is a ROLLER COASTER! I will quickly paraphrase: It starts by dismembering limb from limb the parks claim that it is "The First Public Beach in Manhattan," then pivots to interviewing "beach goers" who are PISSED that they can't swim...WHO WANTS TO SWIM IN THE HUDSON?! AHAHAH Y'ALL BUILT SO DIFFERENT! The article then moves onto interviewing an East Village resident who complains the city neglects the waterfront on her side of town... It's never enough, huh? She does wrap it up really nicely though, and it is well written. I will leave you with a quote from the article that perfectly describes this place, from beach goer Ken Lin: "When they said that they were creating a beach in Manhattan, the vision in my mind was a lot different," he said. "This is sort of like a large sandbox." Still, he laughed, "I'll take what I can get." I'LL TAKE WHAT I CAN GET THANK YOU KEN! MANHATTAN BEACH STAND UP! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

A slice of Island Life in the Big Apple. I came here on a warm sunny Autumn midday expecting to walk on the sand, sit in a blue beach chair and just take in the sights and sounds for 30-45 minutes. Over three hours later, I had to fight the urge to stay until sunset. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed this (water and) sand feature in the Meatpacking district. What a welcome Oasis in a concrete jungle. There is a grassy area for blankets and bottoms, a generous sand area for humans only, and closest to the water, a concrete area with a lengthy ledge for watching the waves. You may come for the views, but you'll stay for the people watching, sunbathing, and chill vibes. There was genuine awe and excitement in the atmosphere, and why not? $78 million later, Manhattan's first official "beach" has arrived (not to be confused with Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn). There is plenty of space, and tons of casual photographers drop in to catch a glimpse. Warning: you WILL be in someone's panoramic video and/or WhatsApp/ FaceTime calls. My (mild) disappointments were that the water refill station was out of service, and I did not see a public restroom. I'm guessing that, for now, Little Island, which is about two blocks down, will have to suit those needs. I'm also unaware of any wifi; cell phone signal was quite weak (1 bar) while there. On the upside, we get to unplug a bit, enjoy nature juxtaposed with man-made beauty. Nearby: Little Island, The Highline, Chelsea Market Bring: a blanket, snacks, a good book. This place is a treasure!

    Nice view!

Interesting spot to relax while admiring the downtown skyline. The sand beach is cute but not functional as there is no actual place to swim, which makes it a bit weird in my option. There are some misty sprinklers that are running on the hot summer days. I like this spot more in theory and just for the visual as opposed to the function, its not really a place I recommend.

The beach itself is nice, and while the water isn't clear like the Caribbean... we just have to accept that here haha. The lifeguards are attentive -- they even have a drone that I think looks out for sharks. The boardwalk has a bit to see, and there's one hub that's got a bit of everything -- pizza, hot dogs (including vegan ones), smoothies, poke bowls, alfajores, a bar... it's quite nice. There's a bunch of tables right outside and they usually have a dope DJ mix going on. It's just a shame that there's a big sign that tells people not to ride their bikes and scooters through that area, but they do anyway... shame! Parking can be hit or miss based on what time and what day you go. Sometimes we've parked right across the street from the boardwalk. Other times we've parked three blocks away. A lot of the parking is free, by the way. There is some pay-to-park, but we don't like that haha. Definitely go if you have some time!

I don't go often, but apparently there are certain sections that have a cluster of bars and restaurants. I headed back to Beach 92 again. Long Island has the superior beaches, but Rockaway is above average and fun. Recommend.

Compared to other beaches, there is less space to spread out because much of the land is roped off for nature preserve. Family friendly but folks were too close to one another IMO. It's a serene spot, and you can find some naturalists and hipsters along the way. There are lots of rules, which can be a little annoying and they are heavily enforced, like no dogs on the beach and no alcohol. I hate that there are park rangers all over the place. There are no lifeguards on duty, so even if you're a good swimmer, don't go out too far in the water. The beach is immaculately clean with little trash, although it would be nice to see some more trash cans set up.

You can rent beach umbrellas and chairs, which is super convenient. The rental stand only takes cash. We rented one umbrella and one chair and it was $45. The beach is very clean, with fine grain sand. They have green flags posted, which indicate designated areas where you can swim. Lifeguards are on duty. There are seagulls and other birds that hang around, but they won't bother you, even if you're eating. They will eat food that's left unattended and out in the open. Police rovers patrol the beach so I think rowdiness is discouraged. One party next to us was playing music on a speaker, but otherwise it was fairly quiet, except for the crashing waves of course. Lots of free nearby parking, but I imagine it fills up quickly on busy days.
