Robert Moses State Park is one of the true gems of Long Island, especially Field 5. The beach is always clean, peaceful, and perfect for a relaxing day by the ocean. One of our favorite things is walking the beautiful boardwalk to the Fire Island Lighthouse -- the views along the way are incredible. We've even spotted dolphins swimming offshore several times, which never gets old! The wildlife here is amazing too, from birds and butterflies to deer and foxes. The sunsets are absolutely stunning, and the monarch butterfly migration in late September is simply breathtaking. Robert Moses has got to be my top favorite beach (Long Beach is up there for me too) where the atmosphere is peaceful without the rowdiness. Hubs and I have been hounding our friends- who are Jones Beach die-hard fanatics to change their annual beach party here instead. So pat on our backs- because we convinced them. Plus this is the break hubs and I needed to enjoy the beach as we've been busy practically every weekend. There are a few fields with a couple of them being 'radio-free'. Even with the allowed music in Field 5 that our friends chose, folks are respectful of their surroundings. Amenities for Field 5 include a children's playground, showers, clean Women/Men restrooms, not sure if this Field has a food concession stand/ sit down restn't. If you park in Field 5 towards the very far end and hoof it a bit, it'll give you easy access to the Fire Island Lighthouse. Sand is clean- almost powdery and the water is pristine. This is a trek from Westchester- but it's worth it. read more

Once known as Fire Island State park, it was the largest state park in New York in 1908. Originally the park was only accessible by ferries leaving Babylon. In 1924 it went on to become Robert Mosses State Park when it was obtained by the newly formed State Parks Commission headed by no other than "Robert Mosses". It wasn't until 1964 that the Captree/Mosses causeway would be installed now allowing drivers to go at their leisure from the Southern Parkway directly to the park avoiding the ferries altogether. I found Robert Mosses State park to be just gorgeous with amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as wildlife and many different species of seabirds and sea creatures. I recommended parking on field 5 as this seems to be where most of the activity is. On the eastern end of field 5 you will find an awesome wooden path which is fully walkable to Fire Island Light House, the light house offers a small museum as well as allows you to see the original lenses that were created for this great beacon. I recommend taking this great walk through the dunes to the light house when you first get there and then spending the remainder of your afternoon unwinding on the beach. You will find many facilities on field 5 like a concession providing tasty gelato and finger foods as well as a full service covered bar providing some shade. At this bar you can enjoy tasty beverages and cool breezes off the Atlantic. Truly a wonderful place to spend a sunny summer afternoon or early evening. (Please use Sunscreen) read more

I've been here quite a few times over the years with my best friend. We truly enjoy it and become so engulfed in our beach days that the time seems to fly quickly. It's a very serene and tranquil beach. It's quite clean and not as congested as other Long Island beaches. There is plenty of parking and the restrooms are clean. I also love the fact that the beach is just a short distance from the parking lot. Like many beaches on Long Island, there is a fee to enter ($10). The beach is almost impossible to enjoy these days. On one hand, you have spanish people blasting their spanish ghetto rap music and on the other hand you have cranky screaming children with parents who don't know how to control their kids. I come to field 2 where radios are not allowed and I go all the way to the left to surf and to avoid big crowds of people. Why is field 2 turning into field 5. If you are from the city please stay in the city. Us Long Islanders DONT WANT YOU HERE. If you want to enjoy Long Island perks then how about you pay the Long Island prices. Wow I hadn't been here in years, like 10 years, yeah really long. Anyway since my mom is a senior she took us here one afternoon so we could finally have a NY beach experience with my boy. He had the time of his life because it's a beach and nice. We enjoyed ourselves too. Unlike long beach they have an area you can rinse off your feet, except it's right by the sand so yeah a few attempts to clean my boy lol. We did field 5 the day we went. Changing area was nice. Once you come out of the bathrooms there was a vendor set up which I guess is smart, annoying for the parent though lol. My son ended up with a nice light saber. I'm happy we came here and it's usually worth the extra drive instead of Jones. I haven't been to Jones in years so who knows these days. I'm sad we saw no deer! Used to constantly see deer here when I'd come years ago. read more

Robert Moses Field 5 has been our go-to lately this summer and let me tell you, it's been a dream. The soft sand, cleanliness of the beach area, unique shells and clear water has us coming back time and time again. Check out your local library to rent the Empire Pass and you might even be lucky enough to get in without paying the $10 fee. read more

$10 for all day parking is a standard LI beach parking price. Public restrooms are in a relatively clean condition [depending on your luck]. A fast food café & bar is available right by the parking/restrooms/beach entrance. Typical, overpriced, American fare like stale pretzels, bland, cardboard fries, and pre-frozen burgers can be purchased by those who forgot their lunch or do not want to leave the beach to eat at the multitude of local restaurants nearby. On a Sunday, the beach was PACKED. We had to walk a while to find a place where we could leave our belongings. A lot of families with children. A lot of people openly drinking, smoking, and blasting music from ungainly, ginormous speakers. Definitely a jarring juxtaposition with the gorgeous ocean vistas. The aquamarine water and white sand were so lovely, yet it was difficult to enjoy them due to how packed it was on the sand and in the water. Only closer to 6pm did it become possible to "breathe" as many began to leave. Lifeguards do not have a uniform, so it is challenging to spot them and distinguish regular beach goers from life-saving professionals. Tons of pretty seashell fragments were washed ashore, so you can entertain yourself with some treasure hunting. read more

Robert Moses is an excellent beach for a relaxing day. Most people go to Jones Beach but Robert Moses is just a bit further and less crowded. Robert Moses is divided into sections called Fields. They are honestly all good with plenty of space for everyone. Field 4 is the one with concessions if you want some drinks and snacks. Field 5 is the one with a small boardwalk that leads to a lighthouse. Do yourself a favor and skip Jones Beach on your way to Robert Moses instead. read more

This is my local South Shore beach and it is is gorgeous and so clean! I normally go early around 8:30 before the crowds come and for peace and quite I stay far away from the concession area! LOL I'm already leaving by 11 ish . Right now because of the virus every other parking spot has a cone set up to maintain social distancing . You are suppose to wear a mask in the parking lot and on the beach until you sit down and blankets should be 10 ft apart .I did not see this happening and very few people were wearing masks , this was very disappointing! Sadly I didn't notice anyone around enforcing the rules ! Also disappointing! Although I know we are being told that being outside is less of a risk for contracting the virus as a senior citizen my view is better safe than sorry , I stayed a few hrs and left when more people started coming ! read more

Robert Moses beach Field 5 has a renovated concession with a Tiki Bar lined with Palm Trees and a selection of frozen drinks. Admission to park at field 5 is $10. The beach is very clean and the bar area was fantastic. A burger with French fries costs $22 & a large soft pretzel $4.75. We had an amazing time sipping on Frose which is rose wine and vodka mixed into a frozen cocktail...fantastic & refreshing. After our time at the beach we walked over to The Lighthouse. Been here multiple times but this time, we decided to parked in field 5 to be able to visit the lighthouse. The lighthouse is about less than a mile walk. The beach by the light house is additional half mile walk. It is much peaceful and private. Don't get me wrong , the beach area in field 5 is as good as it gets. White sand , central concession, own Ems service in the house, lifeguard center within reach, few sand dunes , boardwalk connected to the next field and has beautiful staff. I've been going here for years and during Covid the town beaches are closed to non-residents so this is my default beach. With 50% capacity, it's less crowded. Field 5 is my favorite- short walk to the beach. They now offer a more gourmet menu at the concession, including a gelato bar. Now there's an outside bar with a good beer and tropical drink selection. $14 for a 16 oz pina colada. $8 beers. Empire State Hand sanitizer in bathrooms and everywhere on the beach. The water was clean and the waves were strong today. I'm grateful Robert Moses beach is here to bring ocean therapy during the pandemic. read more

We went first thing on a cooler Thursday morning in june school was still in session no crowds at all. Just $10 and we had out of state plates (didn't matter) nice clean restrooms. We walked down the beach and up to the lighthouse if you want to go in you need shoes and perhaps still a mask so we didn't go in. Collected some cool shells and sand dollars. Must get here before 10am or you might have to park over at lot 4. Which still shares the same waterfront but has a longer walk to the food station and restroom. Sandy was nice and the beach was generally clean and well kept. But the waves were super strong on 8/15 and full of pebbles. $10/vehicle and they have a store that sells umbrella/chairs/swim wears. read more

Been here a couple of times and they were all a nice experience. There's a boardwalk with flowers grown alongside the boardwalk. It's a nice boardwalk to walk on. I went to the beach and the sand was white. Just a lot of people decorating the beach near the boardwalk. But as you go further into the park, the beach is less spacious and the current is stronger than ever. The waves are huge if you go deep into Kismet. The couple of times I went there I was with my family and we sat at the Kismet portion and the waves were just crashing into the shore. As the day started to wind down, the tide was high so the beach became smaller and the water ate up the sand so beach goers have to move away from the shore. Definitely not wise to swim in it especially if you go deeper into Fire Island because of its current. Remember Fire Island is very strong and decorated with many restaurants and beach houses to rent out. One time we also mini baby sharks flop on the shore from the current and we threw the baby shark back into the ocean! So that was nice and something new you don't see everyday in the beach! read more

Today's beach day experience was eh because it was sooooo congested where people decided to be on top of each other. I am annoyed with umbrellas but worst of all was those summer tents set up everywhere. My friend lost one of her hooks for the sand free blanket because we were moving a tad bit since people don't think about other people's personal space. I couldn't access my T-Mobile Data so signed up with the Ranger wifi and my service was just in and out. Field 2 is definitely a popular spot... close to the bathrooms/showers, food vendors, and etc. Another time we came back from dipping and my friend's beach chair was covered in sand. Wow show some respect for other people's stuff. We are just going to stick to Jones Beach Field 6 at least people are spread out and not on top of one another. read more

I came here with friends really early on a weekend morning to get some vitamin-sea--a total of five of us. It began as a quite foggy day but we pulled through it. Traffic was clear but still took roughly an hour and a half to reach this part of NY. The weather revealed the sun would come out at some point and to be honest I'm a cooler temperature kind of gal--so I wasn't too worried either way. We found parking right away since it was so early and then unpacked the car; made our way to the white sandy beach. It wasn't too crowded and in the parking lot there were only a hand full of cars. We find our perfect beach spot and setup. We had blankets, towels, chairs, sun screen, and an umbrella. We also brought with us a small picnic with food and beverages. We brought a frisbee so we were playing that for a good hour shortly after we arrived. I workout everyday in gym or studio but New York has a way of having you working out without all the machinery--walking everywhere etc. Nevertheless, sun wasn't out yet which made this game all the more enjoyable--not super unbearable. I usually bring at least one bathing suit on holiday just in case but in this case I forgot. So I made the best of the situation and admired the beach from the outside looking in view--the lounge chair and of course I put my legs in but it wasn't the same. Afternoon the crowd really picked up especially will the nice weather. There are restrooms on the premises but we were really far from them so we used the restrooms at the golf course. We left late afternoon and as you can imagine traffic was a bit more congested after we left the beach then when we arrived. read more

This is one of my favorite State Parks / Beaches on Long Island area. We check out different NY State Parks very often as we are the Empire Pass holder. The parking is free for Empire Pass holders, but it is $10 per car during summer months. Compared to Jones Beach, Robert Moses is less famous and further out east from NYC, so it is usually less crowded. The walk from the parking lot to the sand beach is much shorter and it is very convenience for families with little kids. The sand quality isn't bad at all and my kids enjoy just playing with the sands for a few hours. There are life guards on duty in Field 5. I only go to Field 5, so I'm not sure if there are life guards in other fields. I will suggest to go early in the morning before the parking lot is filled up. read more

Robert Moses field 5 is one of my favorite beaches to spend a day on. I have an Empire pass so parking is free, without one parking is $10. The beach is kept incredibly clean (you will always see employees around picking up trash and whatnot). The shore line is great if you get there early in the morning. We always try to be there no later than 10AM. Plus you get to say you spent the day on Fire Island without ever taking a ferry. Staff is friendly, parking is usually easy but with social distancing in place there are cones between each spot. The only issue is they tend to close off the regular bathrooms and only leave open the family bathrooms as it gets later in the afternoon, and those bathrooms tend to be pretty nasty. read more

Robert Moses gives you the full NY experience, including sitting made-up traffic jams. Instead of a 20 min trip to the beach at 4 pm on a Sunday, it took an hour because they decided to detour the traffic to the beach and detour us into a road where they closed one lane for construction ( none was occuring since it was a Sunday). Great traffic planning! I hear they booking Enrico Pallazzo for next year's national anthem at opening ceremony for beach season. read more

I have liked Robert Moses Beach for many years. the problem is that the last few times I have gone, it has not been the family beach with natural beauty that i am used to. it has been discovered by a group of people from a country east of Haiti who assume that everyone else on the beach wants to hear their music.
