If you're looking for a great cocktail and a fun environment- this is your place. It's a bit tricky to find; but that's the fun of it. Just ask the parking attendant if you can't find the front door. We arrived around 6pm on a Friday (the day after Christmas) and it was pretty quiet. We grabbed a spot at the bar and enjoyed a cocktail while we were waiting on our nearby dinner reservation (at Peché). It was still happy hour and I opted for the French 75, which turned out to be one of the best French 75's I've ever had. My husband ordered a Tito's martini up with a twist; which he also commented was one of best martinis he's had in a while. The bartender was great and really took his time to carefully craft each drink. We ended to leaving after the one cocktail in order to make our dinner reservation but ended up coming back to Garage to finish the night. It's definitely a place that livens up as the night progresses and was quite busy and loud when we left around 11pm. Overall: great spot for a cocktail (or two or three) but I'll probably stick to earlier hours since it's a little quieter and more mellow. But if a scene and a crowd is a little more your thing- the later hours would be great for you. We will definitely be back! read more

Overall it was on track to be an extremely fun night. Great venue. We had a big group and we were celebrating an event together. The experience went from 5 star to 2 star because of the service - we spent nearly $1K and the bartender shamed us for not tipping enough, saying that the standard was 20%, when we had tipped 11% on the bill ($100 on a $832 bill). To be clear this was a bill with only bartending drinks and no food service. She made this into an issue, then apologized shortly after the fact, admitting that she felt her behavior was unprofessional. Overall great venue but discouraged by entitled service. read more

So excited to find this place!! Walking into this space, you are immediately met with the most awesome smell! We were told that it was simple incense; but the combination of the decor, lighting, smell and location made it seem like so much more! You really do completely forget that you are in a parking garage. The bar is very unique and the seating throughout this small space was very comfortable. We also really enjoyed the music that was playing. Brian, our bartender, was very knowledgable and did a nice job of finding the perfect drink for each of us. I hate writing reviews of places I like because I don't want people to discover them and make them even more packed. Been going to Garage for awhile now, and their drinks are always on point. I stick to old fashioneds for the most part. I'm that guy that puts his finger in his drink to get the brandied cherry out of the glass. All of their other drinks are good too. I wasn't drinking for awhile, and my friend jokingly ordered me a Shirley Temple, and I'll be damned if it wasn't one of the best beverages I've ever consumed. Datascraping at the door, no cash, super loud Pandora music that you have to shout to be heard over, so mostly what you hear are the highest pitched voices of your neighboring patrons. The Garage has been an Austin speakeasy staple for some time now, and they have continued to provide consistent, intimate, yet fun experiences. Specifically, we threw a joint birthday party for my friend and wife last year, and the staff truly catered to us. For starters, they didn't throw a fit when we moved a few tables in the back together. We served our own cakes. And, to put the icing on the cake, they went out and got serving ware for us... plates, knives, forks... what staff! Additionally, the limited options for wine and cocktails make choosing a drink simple... sometimes we can be enslaved to our options. Pretty cool location, in a garage if you haven't quite figured that out yet, with a nice drink list. They try to elevate cocktails from the usual sixth street experience. As a result, their drinks run ~$12 a piece which is no small order. While I think they deliver in quality, I feel the atmosphere is severely lacking. Multiple people were crowded around the bar, standing and yelling to get drinks, which hindered the experience a little bit. It is a popular destination, I understand, but even on Friday at 9 you should segment out the group's a little. I felt compacted into a sardine can at times, which shouldn't be an issue when I'm dealing with fine cocktails and a nice lady- at least not in my opinion. Overall, I felt garage satisfies the need for an elevated experience around 6th, even if it doesn't fulfill all the roles I would like it to. Drinks are nice. Bartenders are alright. Ambience is ok. It's a decent experience, just don't set your expectations too high-your wallet too low. These drinks can add up fast. read more

I really enjoy the bar scene in Austin city and 6th street is nothing short of weird. This little place which is just off of 6th street showed immense potential at the first glance- a hidden speakeasy entrance, cool grungy bar vibe and of course craft cocktails, so to speak. We showed up on a Friday night and expected a wait. To our delight, we were showed to our tables immediately, which was great. The vibe was alright, I've been to much better places without all the added hype and pretension. We ordered drinks right away and it took around 20 mins for us to finally get them, which seemed rather strange considering the bar wasn't particularly buzzing. But anyway, the drinks were a complete disaster. What's worse is that it wasn't just my drink that wasn't great, three of my other friends ordered different drinks and none of theirs was good either; everything had an overdose of lime. With the four star rating, I expected so much better. Might be time for the mixologists to revisit those drink menus and please, oh please keep the limes as far away as possible! read more

Another awesome "secret bar" in Austin that my friend and I wanted to hit up during our time there for the weekend. Somewhat hard to find -- hidden inside of a parking garage (but all you have to do is look for the "GARAGE" sign) but that adds to the charm. The bartenders here are super nice + love chatting with you (especially if there isn't a huge crowd when you go, which is what happened to us). The place is dark and minimally designed. Great for conversations since it's not too loud, and the drinks are all super interesting and innovative mixtures of flavors, etc. Super pricey (expect to pay a good amount for 1-2 rounds of drinks here) but I guess it's worth it for the overall experience. Ask for drink recommendations from the bartenders -- it'll be worth it. Also don't visit this place if you are interested in meeting other young folk traveling through Austin - it definitely brings in a slightly older crowd, with more of a low-key and intimate vibe. Cool place to stop in with a small group and chill but there is one bartender thst doesn't believe in washing her hands while touching everything in sight (including her short hair with a messy bun up top) while grabbing your glasses from the inside. I was quite grossed out by this acrion even though she was smiling while making our old fashions. The other female bartender that wears alot of rings and accessories washed her hands religiously as if she actual was mindful of the phrase cleanliness is next to godliness. I have to say this is one of the top 5 cocktail bars in Austin. Cocktail game is actually pretty poor, especially downtown, for unique and experimentals, but Garage is fantastic. Has the classes like Old Fashion and Aperol Spritz, but also version of the house that add some oomph and some flavor or alcohol. We had a few drinks at $12 each. Old fashioned very good but sugary so be mindful. THe paper plane very fruity but alcoholy. The barton Creek was kinda like an old fashioned and Manhattan mix, but more boozy; this one is my recommendation for a whiskey or bourbon lover. Small place but they have seats and about 10 person bar. Might be a line out front if late, but that doesn't mean it's full inside, just to keep the bartenders from getting overwhelmed. By the oz pours are really expensive and beer is small on quantity and mostly macro, but cocktails for $12 isn't too bad for the quality. Dark and intimate inside. Loud but solid music. This was one of our favorite bars, it's in a cool location and it's very nice on the inside. Our bartender was Jeff, he was so personable and knowledgeable. He told us about the drinks and location and he made excellent drinks! We liked the bar and Jeff so much that we came back the next night for a couple drinks and the small plates. This place is like a film noir dream come to fruition. Located in a parking deck, you round the corner to the bar's entrance and immediately feel strong retro vibes. Once inside, the atmosphere is dark, luscious and intimate, and the decor is industrial meets mid century erotica. The tables and chairs are works of art in themselves and the wall paper is Matrix meets F. Scott Fitzgerald. The bar is round and beautiful and there is an extensive collection of alcohols, liqueurs, and amaros.
