Overall: 4.5/5 [dine in] We were waiting to get into Tiger Lilly when they open at 5 PM but found out they've permanently converted to an event space, so our friends introduced us to Garage instead. Definitely did not expect to find a speakeasy in a garage, but it was a vibe. We were lucky and got seated right away. Very dark and moody lighting inside. They don't have happy hour and the drinks are on the pricier side. Portions are a bit smaller too, but they are craft cocktails. Came upon this place on a whim. We were walking home from dinner and were looking for somewhere to have a night cap. Luckily, this was not far away and they took us, as walk-ins. It's well hidden, in an actual parking garage, although the music is a bit of a giveaway. I loved the industrial, low key vibe and it seems like a lot of other people did too, for a Wednesday night. We go to Garage bar for the Lucas Fiasco and it was great but the service was horrible. They added the pizza place so we wanted to go for dinner and made a reservation for 7 pm. The host was very rude, at 8 pm the waiter came up to us and told us the next reservation was there early so we had to leave and when we asked what their usual reservation time was they said 90 min but they don't make the decisions when to make someone leave. The food was great but between eating and drinking and catching up being held to an hour slot for a $250 tab was not cool. read more

The first being 7-8 years ago and it would become a twice yearly visit when coming back to visit family. This is my first time back since we relocated to Austin 1.5 years ago. I dig the vibe and concept of this speakeasy being in a parking garage. I like having to kinda find our way in even though it's not too difficult. Just adds to the experience. Chef and owner Philip Speer was testing out his new offering of Sicilian pizza at the Garage bar, and my friend and I were lucky enough to be among his first testers. The pizza was so incredibly delicious, with a thick, fluffy crust. There were two options: a white pizza or tomato-based. He even made a special gluten-free crust for me to accommodate my diet. I had no idea it was gluten free until he told me. I will go back to the Garage when he formally launches the pizza as a regular offering. We went on a Saturday night a few weeks ago, and thoroughly enjoyed our experience! We had to wait outside for about 5 minutes to be seated, and once we got in it was chill and not too crowded. The inside had a nice wood burning fire smell, probably to cover up the garage fumes. Our bartender was very sweet and didn't pressure us to order quickly. Perfect spot to come with friends to enjoy a drink or some amazing pizza. I have to say this is one of the best pizza slices I've had in austin. I came in during their filet mignon limited slice and it was the best slice of the night. Getting the pizza flight is great to share with friends and allows you to try all four slices. If you're into thick and crunchy crust, you'll love this place. There are some downsides to this place in my opinion. The place is small and has an intimate setting with the dark lighting, but it felt really uncomfortable being seated in the couch area. The concept is cool but the height of the tiny table in front of you makes it really had to sit without hunching over trying to eat your food. I also tried two mocktails and they were both tasty. The penicillin was my favorite but the price felt high for a very small amount of drink. Last thing is that for a place called the garage it's funny that they don't validate parking in the garage that they're located in. We enjoyed our visit to this establishment. Our main goal was to try the Sicilian pizza we saw on social media. We did the four slice spread so we could try all of the flavors and we weren't disappointed. We also had the Caesar salad which was great, especially the croutons. The drinks were also very tasty. The only drawback would be how dark it was in there on top of how congested the seating arrangement was so it was very hard to hear since there were so many patrons. When you get inside it is a midcentury decor and cozy bar space. There is an impressive stereo and record collection in the front entry. There are plenty of benches and comfortable seats for lounging. There is a nice bar area with a selection of innovative adult spirits. Even after all these years, Garage always holds up. Initially we were seated in the high tops which was uncomfortable without a back rest and cold being next to the window. The hostess was sweet in changing us out to one of sofa seats instead. The vibes are dark yet romantic yes you're surrounded only by candlelight's. My husband and I could really only focus on each other and enjoy our conversations. My husband and I had 6 drinks between us over the course of two hours. Each exquisitely tasting. The Indian paintbrush always being my favorite, to the custom sidecar and aviation that the bar so graciously made us. They also have pizza now. It's Sicilian style meaning the bread is thick and crunchy. It tastes great it was just expensive for the size (coming in at $8 a slice). Personally I'd recommend getting your food fill somewhere else and enjoy the cocktails here so you don't break the bank. But for us, this was a pleasant nice out. read more

I would not recommend this bar based on our experience. My girlfriend has a severe gin allergy, and we specifically requested a drink without gin. Instead of taking that seriously, the waitress questioned whether it was a "real allergy" or whether she simply did not like gin, which was incredibly inconsiderate and unprofessional. When the drinks arrived, the staff did not seem confident that the gin had actually been replaced or removed. Unfortunately, my girlfriend ended up experiencing a serious allergic reaction, including chest pain, respiratory distress, severe body aches, and hives. On top of that, the bar automatically adds a 25% gratuity to every bill, which feels unreasonable when the service is this careless and dismissive. For Austin, the drink prices were also extremely high. And the ambiance was really loud, making it difficult to have any conversation. Customer safety should be taken seriously, especially when a guest clearly communicates a severe allergy. Based on this experience, I would not return. read more

There are some small seats by the right side of the bar area--here you need to get up and order at the bar, there won't be a waiter to serve you. Menu is seasonal and they have a great variety of spirit-forward, fruity, and light.
