What a lovely spot on 4th! This whiskey bar has some very strong drinks! My friend ordered an espresso martini which he said was pretty good. I had the Lavender Bee which was perfection! I usually just need one to start out or finish off the night. Service was very friendly on a Friday night and the place was very crowded. Such a great vibe! It's very moody and dimly lit perfect place to meet friends or a date. The music was okay mostly EDM which did not mesh with the chillness of the place. Parking can be difficult on 4th. I parked in the 405 Colorado garage which is very cheap (5 hrs for $10) read more

If you are looking for a cool basement to escape some of the heat, it's here cause we don't have these in much other places. Overall a nice small bar with nice cocktails. No beer on tap. Good place to stop by for a drink and on to the next downtown. Bring extra friends to use them as chairs cause they can be limited. read more

A very solid spot for late a night adventure. A little limited seating but we found a spot to sit fairly fast. The cocktails were pretty solid. We visited on a weekday when it wasn't busy, so we easily found a seat and ordered right away. Something about the combination of spirits didn't sit well with us, and we both ended up with slight headaches--mine faded after an hour, but my husband's lasted all night. Ursula Major ($17): Bearface whiskey, Ford's gin, allspice dram, crème de violette, lemon, orgeat, honey, absinthe rinse. Less bold than a typical whiskey drink. My husband, who loves absinthe and usually orders whiskey-based cocktails, didn't particularly enjoy this and thought it was okay. My party was looking for a speakeasy-like bar without a reservation and found this location for our Sunday night outing. There is a flight of stairs down into the bar, which gives it a speakeasy-like, hidden feel. The bar was a bit slow though in preparing our drinks despite it being less busy as it was a Sunday night. I ordered a New York Sour which I thoroughly enjoyed since I was looking for a sweeter drink. 4.5/5 The presentation was nice and the drink was a good balance of acidic and fruity. read more

I went to dumont's for a company event and it was my first time exploring this part of Austin at the edge of 4th Street! Dumont is known as a haunted bar downtown, specializing in special cocktails and a wide variety of whiskeys to choose half pour or 2 oz pours from! I personally highly recommend trying the milkwash drink if they have it available (limited time drink) or the eggnog. When you walk in the atmosphere is kind of dark but not too dark where you can't see anybody or have conversation! Highly. Would recommend this place as a date spot for for a night of celebration! This is my first time at a more upscale cocktail bar the bartenders that I went to were all super nice and informed me of drinks they liked and recommendations! This place also has a cool structure with a bunch of barrels stacked on the walls and used as decoration. Super dim lighting with a whole bar available. One typical (or not so typical) Friday night with local friends and out of town guests, we came here as our last stop before ending the night to go get some In n Out ;) I've always wanted to come here before I moved out of Austin, and I'm glad I got to finally check it out! I gotta say, i really enjoyed the vibes here, very intimate, very cool, and they have a huge selection of drinks! Anytime I'm at a bar like this, I go for my go-to: Manhattan. If i could say 0 stars i would apparently Kyle and the bar manger Trevor hate there jobs and they made it very obvious TN some of the worst and most disrespectful service I've ever received interacting with these two genuinely ruined our night and they both give off bad energy! Serving cocktails and giving great service should come hand in hand especially at a place like Dumonts i suggest the owner get people in that actually love there jobs and want to represent the business in a positive manner. Really cool Speakeasy-like bar. Really dark and really mysterious. Look up some of the spooky stories about this place! This was the first stop on a haunted bar tour we did. I probably had the strongest old fashioned of our trip to Austin at this place. They really know how to make them here. The rest of the cocktails on the menu looked really good too. I love that the Friday happy hour goes until 7pm! It's the perfect way to start the weekend. There's a limited menu for happy hour drinks but I ordered the Matador, it was very sweet from the pineapple juice. I also tried the mule. It was very dry but tasty. The atmosphere is so cool!! Let me tell you something about service... You can start great,, but what patrons really remember is the send off. Sadly, the bar tenders were not very attentive. Specially when we have to keep asking the bus boy to ask for a bartender to "TEND" to our needs. Took us forever to cash out,, I was tired and was not in any mood to be ignored. Nice place! Dumont's what a little hidden gem you are that I have now uncovered and can't get enough of! Stumbled upon Dumont's via Google when we were looking for a lowkey bar near where we already were. The pictures gave off a speakeasy like feel without having to have a passcode or reservation so I was here for it. Needless to say it did not disappoint. Walking down the stairs to the basement area where this low key but cute bar exists was a pleasant surprise. As I mentioned there is a speakeasy vibe to the place, making it great for a date, or low key night with friends. Music plays in the background and vintage couches for you to grab a seat if you can. That is the only downside is that there isn't a lot of seating, so the chances you may have to stand around are pretty high depending on when you go. The drink that I love is the Lavender Bee! Try it, it's delicious! Had it both times I went recently. Also the bar tenders are great, I tried something different and wasn't fan, they were willing to switch it out, no questions asked. Helps when you like the staff and the place! Definitely on my places to grab a drink from now on! read more

This is a great place to grab a cocktail in the area especially if you need a spot to pre-game before any shows you might be catching in and around this area. The bar is super cool looking! Feels like I am walking into some cool underground mixologist scientist spot. The backlight at the bar really lights up all of the bar but still gives it this warm glow. There is a nice menu of specials and in-house curated cocktails from you to choose from. They have everything you can think of and more. If you give the bartender an idea of what you are in the mood for I promise you will end up having something super special and crafted just for you. I ended up having a lavender Bees Knees that was delicious and super swanky! The furniture and hang out spots throughout the bar really make this place feel super high class. I definitely would recommend bringing a beau with you or just come with a ton of friends as there are large and comfy couches to hang out on. No tvs just music here which adds to the cool speakeasy ambiance. I can totally see someone having a 1940's or 50's style themed party here. Who would've ever thought to see an underground whiskey bar right in the heard of the LGBTQIA+ neighborhood. I've been to Halcyon a few times throughout the years and loved how there was a queer friendly space that was welcoming to all. So getting to combine my love of whiskey and as a queer person myself, this felt like heaven. Down Low Bar has a wide ensemble of different folks hanging out which I loved. Always a fan of a diverse scene and not something that looks so cookie cutter. Now the whiskey selection was stupid impressive. Staff was super nice and very friendly. Wasn't the biggest fan of my mint julep but I also live in New Orleans and have very peculiar taste. I can't take away this spot being in my rotation as I visit Austin. I'm sure once I explore the menu there will be some signature faves. I'll be back! Drinks are priced as one would expect for such an ambiance. read more

This place is downstairs of what used to be Fado's. In the 19th century it used to be a brothel. The decor is nice and I love the whiskey barrels they have on display. It is very cozy inside. On the menu the day I went in I wasn't the biggest fan of most of the drinks, but the bartender made me one of their specials from the month before (99 problems but a peach ain't one), which was delicious! read more

All the cocktails were great and Will took great care of us making sure we had water and a full cocktail. I've been a few times to Dumont's but this was by far my favorite and that was because of Will. read more
