This spot is on a roof top on East 5th St. They've had some slamming tacos at an outdoor hut on their rooftop as well. There was a pretty good amount of some signature/custom drinks on their menu, beer selection was pretty much bottles, and a bit limited. I'm so glad I came across this spot on Yelp! The drinks here are so good, and the atmosphere made the experience even better. I really liked that they offer both indoor seating and an upstairs rooftop patio. It's a great place to relax, enjoy a drink, and take in the view. We stopped by on a Wednesday evening, and it wasn't too crowded, which made it easy to grab a seat and catch a FIFA match. The décor was another highlight. I loved all of the unique artwork throughout the space, especially the illuminated Virgin Mary--it was definitely my favorite piece. The only downside is that if you're sitting on the rooftop, the bathrooms are downstairs, so keep that in mind after you've had a few drinks! I also wish they offered food or at least a few appetizers. The cocktails had us wanting to stay for another round, but we were getting hungry and had to leave to find a place that served both food and drinks. Overall, it's a fun spot with great cocktails, a cool atmosphere, and a rooftop that's worth checking out. I'd definitely come back for the drinks! read more

Good place to fill the time. Really good cocktails for $9...flat. This place has a patio to overlook all the cars honking at those pedal parties that aren't pedaling fast enough. The bar tenders were really great. Some drinks can take a bit of time since they have to get them from down stairs. read more

We absolutely love coming to this bar every time we're in Austin! The rooftop is a great vibe, especially right now when it's decorated for the season. We were there Friday night and they had a live DJ which was really fun. Bartenders are always super nice and friendly, and go as quickly as they possibly can to serve and pour so I never felt like I waited even 5 minutes to get a refill. I also really appreciated that they came around to collect empty glasses! This is a tequila bar, they do have a few beers, Red Bull, and I want to say I saw sangria and champagne or wine in the coolers behind the bar? But I don't think they have other spirits like vodka, gin, etc. read more

Love this bar! We came here with a group of friends and I had never heard of it but wow I was shocked at what a gem it is. They have a cute inside and then a rooftop bar as well with live music, there was a band playing and the singer was amazing. I got a margarita and a mexican martini, the martini was absolutely amazing, but I wished they had dressed up my margarita. Overall great drinks though. There was even an area where you could get burritos, tacos, etc. so it was all a perfect friday night vibe. read more

I was standing outside of this bar waiting on my uber with a friend and this man who apparently works at the establishment came out of nowhere yelling at us to move, got in my face and was cussing at me for no reason. Had he asked for us to move like a normal and rational human being we would have moved no problem. He also got in the face of the doorman and was yelling at him to "do your fucking job" and the doorman just laughed at the man because i'm sure this is a normal occurrence and pattern of behavior for him as he is clearly unstable. I didn't really react because it was very obvious that this man was ONLY bark and possesses not a single ounce of bite, and isn't bold enough to actually put hands on somebody, and probably only behaves that way due to all that he so obviously lacks. I would not recommend spending money here as they employ unstable employees who like to get in the face of patrons who have been drinking late at night. I get that this is a bar but the environment they have created here is unsafe and hostile. If you go here stay clear of the male with light skin shoulder-ish length wavy black hair and dark eyes. Insane behavior from that one. This person has no business being employed at a bar, let alone in a position of power while interacting with patrons who have been drinking. This person's job should be to de-escalate situations not to escalate and create issues with people who are minding their business trying to get home at the end of the night. read more

The inside is cute; think instagram. The rooftop had a dj, which is a common occurrence supposedly, so that was cool. The rooftop has a huge canopy over it in case it rains. It reminds me of being at a college tailgate party. I came to try their happy hour before a show, and I wouldn't come back - hence the 3 stars. $4 for a corona and $6 for a frozen marg that may or may not have tequila. read more

Its just a bar. But they DO stock an extraordinary range of mescals, tequilas and niche agave spirits. The bartending is not great ... and the staff knows little about the wares they sell. The night I was there, the bartender was a newbie Who knew nothing about the beverages and could not find most of the bottles on the menu. Turns out the bottles were there. He just didn't know where to look. Other Yelp reviews suggest that this kind of thing is pretty typical. The stock of the competition goes up when you consider that some of these bottles can also be found in the more expensive fine dining Mexican establishments in our city. Those establishments will have waiters and bartenders who are for all intents and purposes veteran sommeliers. Still - if you are willing to let the bartender fumble until he finds your beverage And you want to drink without busting your wallet on gourmet food, The Cockfight can put some impressive spirits into your glass. * * * The top of the line bottles here command eye-popping prices. I didn't go for any of the wife-divorces-you-when-she-sees-your-bar-bill items. But I did settle down for a $47 2-oz glass of Las Perlas Raicilla. Raicilla is a mescal that violates the geography rules of where you are allowed to make mescal. So it has to call itself raicilla, sit in the back of the room and not play with the respectable kids. But a raicilla is made of the same stuff as mescal, looks like mescal and tastes like mescal. Apparently there is coastal raicilla and hills raicilla. Las Perlas is a coastal raicilla. It is almost impossible to find in the United States. (I went on line looking. Even specialty mescal stores in San Diego don't carry it.) Las Perlas Raicilla commands serious serious serious respect. I would have that again happily. * * * As a room, the Cockfight is nothing special. They do have a rooftop patio which could be super pleasant in warm weather. But if you give me a chance to drink a rare beverage that is hard to find in other places, And that rare beverage turns out to be pretty good, Then the place that serves it deserves some serious respect as well. I would go back. After my bank account gets a chance to heal. If you are travelling on the budget plan, They have a vast array of tequilas, mescals and cocktails That are the same old same old you can find anywhere else. No reason to get those at the Cockfight, But then there is no reason not to get those at the Cockfight either. In my opinion, the Cockfight is Go Big or Go Home. Other people will see things differently. Bring your eyeglasses so you can help the bartender find what you are looking for. read more

3.5 Bartender on rooftop really made our time here. He gave us info on bars to try, including speakeasies. The rooftop area is a bit more inviting than inside. There's fans that blow mist to cool you down. Also areas covered with umbrellas. The chairs & tables definitely need to be upgraded/ changed. I was worried about getting a splinter. The Frida drink on draft was nice & refreshing. They had two types of beers that were my taste. I tried the lighter one since we were outside in the heat (bartender's recommendation). Being that they had plenty of (in some states hard to find) tequila, I asked what he recommended versus fortaleza. I love tequila & am always looking for new, u discovered to me, on the rocks tequila. He kept telling me to "just to order" something, and because of my interest in the amount of tequila, it was difficult, He was so rude, he was so demeaning to me. Hmmm maybe I have the (un)luck of the draw but every time I've come back to give El Cockfight another shot it just never lands right. The staff is either super inattentive, service is a mess, or there's a genuine disconnect between the concept and what they want to be. Staff never seems to be quite happy or is annoyed when you request drinks or items. Drinks have been served messy or there's no desire to clean them up. I think if they were to decide if they were a dive bar or an upscale cocktail spot. They have a rooftop bar which is super nice but seating is a bit of hunger games when trying to find a table. I came on this platform as someone who never takes time to write reviews for any establishment. I am completely horrified and disgusted at the actions of someone who stated he supposedly worked at this place. As a group of us were waiting to be picked up by a rideshare, I witnessed a display of incredibly unhinged behavior by a black haired, dark-eyed, light-skinned male with a bridge piercing in upper nose. Friends were talking in a friendly, chill manner to the doorman while waiting, when the man described above jumped out of nowhere shouting and threating my male friend just for standing next to the door (no one was waiting, he was not obstructing anyone's space, no one was acting out of line at all...). He yelled in an insane manner toward/at my friend "I told you to get the f**k away from the door, do you want to take this to the alleyway, I will unleash years of needed therapy on your face." It was beyond unprofessional, cringe, and most importantly... completely unjustified. Even after the fact, this man wildly got in his co-worker's face (doorman) and screamed, "what the f**k are you doing, do your f**king job". This a cautionary tale to watch out for this individual if you want to participate as a patron at El Cockfight and to the owners/management that willfully employ this person. read more

I've been here twice for drinks with friends and love it! On the weekends they have a dope DJ playing everything from Latin music to r&b to early Y2K pop. I've tried like 3 drinks there all pretty good. Margarita wasn't my favorite which is funny seeing as how it is a Mexican bar. They have a ton of cocktails and beer and even cocktails on draft! Decor and aesthetic is bomb- love the neon lights and hodge lodge decor. Shout out to the bartender Stacy- he is attentive and nice and watches out for his female patrons. I came here two nights ago for a last minute get together with friends. I was greeted immediately by a lovely person at the downstairs bar, and I ordered the drink El Pito. It was delightful. As I looked around, I was taken aback by the changes made to the bar from the last time I was there. There was a Virgin Mary LED and various other cool design choices. Decent happy hour drinks, but irritating about the fact I'm expected to tip more than 20% on my tab to get the code to go to the "speak easy" next door - which I didn't know until after I read reviews online to find out why when I asked the bartender for the code after cashing out he said "take care of me I'll take care of you." Not sure why that means I need to tip $3 on a $6 bill? The speakeasy - "red headed stepchild" doesn't have good reviews itself, but I wanted to go to check it out anyways since I was in the city.
