My garage doors needed new motors. I purchased two new Chamberlain models and Garage Master installed them. It was fast and easy to arrange an appointment, and they came out two days later. The installer warned me that it was his experience that the remotes from the models I had purchased sometimes do not work well. It is a hit or miss thing. He offered to provide me with a different unit that they use, which doesn't have issues with the remote; however, since I already had purchased the Chamberlain ones, I gambled. Fortunately, the remotes work without issue. The installation for both only took a few hours and the workmanship was good. The price was reasonable, and I definitely would use them again. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTING TREATMENT FROM THIS COMPANY. We had Garage Master come to repair a problem with our garage door. Shalom came and was very knowledgeable. We agreed to purchase a new door and gave a $3000 deposit. We had just moved into a new condo townhouse and found out later that day we were not permitted to get a new door unless we got it through the condo association who would fund it. We called Shalom immediately but he said NO he would not refund our deposit. If it had been ordered and the door was being fabricated we could understand this but really....less than 24 hours after ordering it!!! Totally disappointed and under no circumstances would we ever advise anyone to deal with this company. They sent someone out to look at and fix my broken Genie motor, said they could do it with an 8-foot torsion bar in a couple of days. They came two days later and a different person said they could not do it with 8-foot bar, needed a 10-foot bar. More back and forth. Then after weekend I had to call three times to get an answer about the 10-foot bar and was told it would not be available for a month and the person practically hung up on me mid-sentence. They just bailed on the job. Completely inefficient and incompetent. I wouldn't recommend them. read more

We were all set to give Garage Master an unconditionally positive rating but two things changed our minds. First, the garage door installers used low grade wood for part of the jamb trim as well as for the header panel. The wood had raised grain and multiple knots. We were not informed of this ahead of time or given any choice by the estimator when he visited our house. The grade of wood was also not specified in the project proposal. We understand that grade D Select or better is typically used for this type of application and would have been in keeping with all other woodwork on the house, including other jamb trim installed by Garage Master at the same time. Our painter confirmed this and explained that, while the raised grain can be improved somewhat with priming and multiple sanding, the knots are very difficult to mask. When we raised our concerns with our main contact at Garage Master (Felix), his response was less than satisfactory: "Knots and grain patterns are natural characteristics of real wood, giving each piece unique and natural beauty", "Each piece of wood is distinct with its pattern and features, which many of our customers find adds to its charm", "After applying the primer, I hope a couple of coats of paint should effectively conceal the knots". We proposed a reasonable solution: rather than replacing the wood, that Garage Master cover the cost of any additional paint prep work needed. Felix rejected the idea of getting a quote and also pushed back on a small fixed amount we proposed, agreeing only to 50% of the amount. The second issue involved one of the installers. Out of the blue, the installer asked my husband whom he supported: "Biden or Trump?". My husband declined to answer. The installer then proceeded to talk about the candidate he liked and engage in a political discussion with the other installer in full earshot of my husband. Such a question was completely inappropriate and the incident made my husband very uncomfortable. When my husband later told Felix about it, he merely thanked him for the information - no apology. In summary, what could have been a positive experience was significantly marred by what we felt was poor customer service and unprofessional behavior. read more

We called them twice to fix our garage door, which sometimes works and sometimes does not. When they show up, it is working. The only test they do is to open and close it. Regarding our concern that the door does not always work, they say it is now working. When we leave for work the next day, it does not work again. Mixed experience here. I stopped by in person to ask about a squeaky door and they said someone would call me. I got a call soon after to book a time tomorrow which worked well. But they they showed up today (a day early). Maybe I misunderstood on the phone - but that worked out anyway. The tech said he couldn't do much besides spray lubricant on the springs and he might as well since the service visit was $95 minimum regardless. This is the first I heard of the cost - the person booking the appointment never mentioned it. The minimum pricing should have been mentioned up front when booking an appointment. On march 7, 2023..l called garage master to come to fix the garage door because l couldn't closed it...Ron came and said that the henge on the right hand was broken that to repaired it would cost 1500.00 and to change the door will be 7000.00...all he can do was to closed it...he charged to bring it down 245.00...that l could open it and closed it very carefully. An hour later l had to bring my groceries in opened the door but wouldn't closed ...l called garage master again and l heard Ron talking to asked him if he could go and closed the door for 245.00..easy money in 5 minutes..he told him..his friend came..and closed it but left the sides opened so as the weeks went by the rats were coming in..l tried to keep it deal with plastic ..l just couldn't afford to pay 1500 to just fix the broken henge...as a tenant...the owner contacted them two weeks ago...garage master sent this nice man TAD..who l heard talking to a female from the garage Master as she identified it was who was answering..she told him ..can you fix it ..you know kind of fix it wrapper... He said yes l can repair the henge but it will cost you 275.00 She replied..oh that's great.. TOD repaired the henge and showed the door opening and closing the garage door with no problem. I called Ron and spoke 4157598094..1020 Irving st. And gave him the chance to returned my money..he alleged that l didn't authorize him to fixed it only to closed it..which doesn't make any sense..when he said to fixed it it would cost 1500 for the henge and 7000.00 for the door. Please do not go to this company, they took $95 from me in less than 2 minutes!!! Please be aware.!!! I googled this (company name) and saw good reviews so I decided to given them a call to see if they can help service my garage door opener. I called and spoke to a lady, (apparently the owner according to the tech) and explained what was going on with my garage door. I mentioned I tried doing a self-diagnosis on the garage door opener but was not successful. After I explained what I did, she mentioned that I possibly need a new garage door opener because the motor sounds bad. She went on to say that she can send a tech to check out my garage door to see what's really wrong with it..... It sounded like she already knew my issue before even sending a tech. I agreed since I was not an expert. The tech showed up on time to our schedule appointment, walked in my garage. I pushed the garage door opener button; the tech heard the sound the motor was making and said "your motor is bad you need a new garage door opener". The tech never took out any tools to check the motor, he did not open the garage door opener to test anything. After he told me I needed a motor, he said ok you owe me $95. The appointment took, no lie less the 2 minutes. I was shocked because the technician didn't do anything but listen to the sound my garage door motor was making. I then asked the tech, you are not going to pull out a machine and test anything. He replies no. There no need you just need a new garage door opener. I was so upset that I called the owner of the company the same day and explained what the tech did and how he "serviced" the garage door opener. I explained the appointment lasted less than 2 minute and no equipment was tested. What was service? Nothing was done and you expect me to pay $95. She replied yes. I felt like someone robbed me and took $95 from me. Not a good way to stop my Father's Day weekend. Please do not go to this company!!! read more

My garage door won't open last night. I called Garage Master in the morning and Allen came out within the hour. He said my spring is broken and I have an wore out torsion assembly. My garage door was installed early 80's and never replace the top torsion assembly. I can see the metal bar was rusted and dimpled up all over. I have change the spring many times because I use the door a lot. Allen show me bearing inside that hold the bar in the end was making noise. Like loose bearings, it was also grinding against the drums. He had put it in simple terms that it's like doing brakes on a car. I change my brake pad several times. And now this time I needed to change the rotors, calipers, wheel bearing, and etc because it's all shot. So Allen change my top torsion assembly. Everything on top of my door look brand new. My door sound quieter and feel smoother. He said this should last a long time now. Except the spring are rated for 10,000 cycle and will break again. Then I can continue on just replacing the spring again without replacing torsion assembly for another 40 years. I've been using Garage Master for a very long time. They are friendly , reliable and honest. I highly recommend this company. read more

I was returning home & backing into my garage thinking the door was completely up all the way. But it wasn't quiet and the car crashed into the lower panel knocking out both rollers on each side. This caused the garage to not be able to close. I was in a panic & Edwin from Garage Master came to the rescue in under 2 hours (possibly in under an hour). He was able to do the necessary repairs so the garage door was again operational. I paid $180 for the service call and repair. I'm so grateful for the speedy response. This was late afternoon & I was his last customer. I shudder to think if this had happened in the evening after business hours & the garage door remained open through the night. My 30+ year old wooden garage door needed to be replaced. Someone came out in about a day and wrote up a quote for me for a steel door. He was very knowledgeable, and said it could take 4-6 weeks. I later contacted the office to make s change, and everything was handled efficiently. As it turned out, the door was replaced in about a week. The 2 guys who came out were friendly and efficient, and the whole job was finished in a few hours. That was about 2 months ago, and the door has performed without any issues. read more

After a garage door unit went bad, we contacted garage masters who we have done business with solely for the last 20 years. They came out and removed the old lift master unit and installed a new one for $1100 which is a bit steep in my opinion, but because we've been doing business with them for so long I didn't mind it too much . The caveat is when I tried to test and open the garage door with the remotes and keypad, the garage would not open. I had to stand directly underneath the motor unit to open the garage. Then the technician explains to me that all of these 2022 liftmaster units are like this and they need a firmware update for them to work, to do this I would need to connect to Wi-Fi and contact liftmaster support. I was surprised by this response because they have been installing liftmasters for my family and we have never had a problem. I asked if he could update the unit himself and bring it back here in which he replied no he couldn't. I had no Wi-Fi at my home at the time, so a day later I temporarily connected the garage unit to Wi-Fi to and called liftmaster to update the machine. I spoke to liftmaster and they told me that the unit should be working and no update should be needed, but after a while of talking back and forth with them, they went ahead and updated the garage door unit. They then told me the machine isn't accepting the update, which was quite strange. By the time I was off of the phone with liftmaster garage masters was closed so I waited to call them the next day. The next day rolls around and I call them and spoke to the same technician I spoke to before and he tells me that liftmaster hasn't released an update for those units yet and the only way to open them is via Wi-Fi. I told him that I need it to work with the provided remotes and keypad, and he said the only way the remotes will work is if I pay him the difference to install the $1500 marantec unit. I thought seriously, I just paid $1100 and now you're telling me to make it work like a regular garage door is supposed to, I have to pay more money? No way I said, I already paid you $1100. He then said he needed to talk to a sales rep and that he would call me back the next day. I waited the next day and no call, the day after I called him and asked if he had any update from his rep, and he didn't. I told him I needed the unit to work and asked if there was any way to do so without spending more money. He said he could get the unit to work at no additional charge and he will have someone come out the next day. I was thinking this was finally coming to an end but of course boy was I wrong. The next day rolls around and out of curiosity I decided to call them and ask which unit they were installing. I'm glad I asked because they told me they were going to put some garage door opener brand (I've never heard of). Now I'm thinking to myself I'm paying $1100 for a name brand liftmaster unit and I'm going to get something else that will last for a year or two? At the end of the day I asked them to take their garage door unit back and I will find service elsewhere. I'm mad that my time was wasted, but I'm even more disappointed with how unprofessional the service was and how poorly I was treated. One afterthought I had was if they knew beforehand about this issue with the liftmaster garage door units why are they selling them to their customers. When my garage door wasn't opening up, I freaked out and thought it was completely broken and I'd need to begin budgeting for a new one. I yelped this business and given their reviews, call them right away. I was told there's a price for a technician to come by and that if we agree on the job, that initial price would go towards the repair. I made sure to double check what I was hearing and asked, "if we refuse service, we will have to pay xyz and If we want to work with you, that upfront xyz cost will go towards the final payment?" The person on the line said yes. I booked them right away. I was able to get an appointment that afternoon (2 stars for how quickly they had someone come out) and once the job was done, I was given a new price. The price of repair, tools and labor (ai agree with this), PLUS the initial cost of the technician coming out. I informed the tech that this is not what I was told. He seemed mad (not sure why he'd be mad at me) and I told him I'll call the main office. When I called, someone else picked up and told me a completely different story than what I was told before by someone else. Nicely, I explained what I was initially told and asked them to please comply with that. They wouldn't. I was shocked and felt lied to. I own a small business and would never do this to my clients. I ended up paying the new price for the service although I was lied to. The work performed was good but I hope this business gets their act together and doesn't lie to their customers in the future. read more

Same-day Weekend Service Call Review My garage door problem was that it sometimes bounced back up when closing. They charged me a trip charge of $95 and all they did was come out, have a 20 minute conversation with me and didn't do any physical inspection. Without inspection, they told me I needed a new garage door opener. I can say from personal experience, I called up a more reputable company that only charges $35 trip charge and literally fixed everything. The "more reputable guys" told me my garage door opener was fine and DIDN'T NEED ME TO REPLACE MY GARAGE DOOR OPENER plus checked things thoroughly. I remembered having had great service from the folks at Garage Masters on Irving Street in San Francisco when I had needed 2 new garage doors at my previous home, and when I found myself in their neighborhood, I dropped by in person to request an appointment. The woman at the front desk was incredibly helpful and responsive from the moment I entered, and immediately scheduled me for the next day with a 1 hour window. Early the next morning, she called to inform me that the technicians would be arriving near the latter part of that window; and they did. They could not have been more polite and skilled, and in less than 30 minutes I had my 2 working remotes and a brand new garage door keypad entry system installed flawlessly for a reasonable price! Wife said very loud banging noise in garage - I suspected the spring broke. Verified it when I got home and gave them a call - was quoted $295 for spring replacement. Scheduled an appointment for 11am today. Edwin showed up at 10:50am and was done / packed up his truck at 11:05am for a single spring. He didn't even seem like he was rushing and was so nice and answered all of my dumb questions at the same time Obviously a super quick install, tightened up all the other stuff and sprayed a bunch of lubricant and issued an invoice. Two experiences... 1. They replaced a broken garage opener pre-Covid and I meant to write a review then but did not. On that experience, came out same day, within an hour, it was replaced and working great and have not had any issues since. The person that came out was very friendly, informative and quick! 2. For a couple of days the keypad intermittently stopped working. I replaced the battery several times, it would work and then it would stop again. Today, I called to, I assumed, replace the pad. Instead a nice woman answered the phone and said, before we send someone out let's try a couple of things over the phone. Her instructions were clear and you guessed it --it is now working! Very glad I reached out these guys when our ancient garage door was not opening. I got scheduled for the next day even though I was offered a same day appointment. Allan showed up on time, was professional, explained to me what he have (a motor installed in 1997) so the best thing to try to stretch a few more years out of it would be to adjust the motor, the tension in the springs, lubricate everything and add a few screws to a base plate on the door.
