There was no communication about compost not being delivered during the winter - I only found this out when I emailed them because it had not been delivered despite being requested for two weeks straight - at which point they told me it would resume in the spring. G2G then cancelled service for our region with 2 weeks notice, just before resuming compost delivery for the spring, and informed me that they will not be delivering the compost I'm due from those months - I'd have to drive an hour to pick it up in my own vehicle. They clearly failed to provide the full service they offered, and have no interest in making it right it would seem. If they had provided more notice of the cancellation(which was due to costs and flat signups so easy to see coming a long way out) and actually delivered what they promised, this would be a 5 star review. Buyer(subscriber?) beware. read more

Another one of the greatest THANGs bout living in Portland... You get it. $14 dollars a month - well spent. You can feel good about yourself. In addition, frequently / periodically, I have questions about certain items if they are compostable / or NOT?... And every correspondence - email or call, I get EXTREMELY friendly customer service. Like they care, and are happy to help. Furthermore, I also collect all animal fat oils (bacon, beef primarily) in a pickle jars (empty and clean), and when those fill up I leave those out and they take them and make into fuel. Garbage to Garden is pretty damn fantastic! They offer curbside composting--for $14/month and if you volunteer it's FREE! (yes FREE!!) You can compost any food scrap, meat, dairy even BONES! It has really cut down on the amount of trash I have and I feel better about helping the environment. I can even get actual compost any time I want with no extra charge! Volunteering is a snap & the folks over there always need help bagging compost (when the pile isn't frozen! ha), organizing, de-stickering & re-stickering buckets and more! They're always happy to see you and they care! read more

This is a great service for us urban dwelling folk who don't have the space or yard for composting! For a small monthly fee -you get an air tight bucket to dump all your food scraps in through out the week- they pick it up weekly- and drop off a new clean bucket for the next weeks organic waste. Not only does it cut down on the amount of city trash bags you have to use in a month- but you get free compost when you want it for your house hold plants,small gardens, out door plants, flowers or whatever you have that needs soil an fertilizers!- I think this is a great service and great concept! I truely Encourage all to try- it pays for it self just in the cost savings of city trash bags :-) read more

I love Garbage to Garden! Not only is it great for the environment, it provides an easy way for everyone to compost and as a business they support their community! The service is $14 month, they pick up your compost on your same trash day, and leave you a rinsed and clean bucket for your next pickup. You're never left with a stinky mess to deal with! Each month they offer many volunteer opportunities which support local organizations or you can volunteer with GtG. Each month you volunteer, you get a free month of service! I love this option, since half the time I'm already planning to volunteer and get an added bonus! The staff are friendly, and their service area continues to expand. I save on trash costs, since in Portland we pay per bag, sometimes I can go a whole month and only use 1 bag - most of my waste can be recycled or composted! read more

I was stoked when I first found out about Garbage to Garden. I am always a fan of supporting local businesses, particularly when they provide eco-friendly services for easy convenience. However, a general warning for those who live on a street corner: Being on a street corner, my driveway is on a different street than my street address. During the first week of the program I dropped off the compost on my driveway on Sunday Evening, just like I do with my trash and recycling. When I got back from work that day, the trash and recycling was collected but the compost container was still full. I called Garbage to Garden the next day, and the woman speaking said that a driver drove by my street but didn't collect it because he didn't see it. I then told her that my driveway is on a different street than my front door, and she said that she'd make a special note of that so that their drivers will know to pick up my compost on the address that my driveway is on. But the following week the driver once again didn't collect my compost that I left on the driveway. I called them back and basically had the same conversation with someone. After this I started thinking "Well, clearly they don't understand where my driveway is, so what if I just leave it by the sidewalk in front of my house?" I can now say that they have been collecting my compost every week, but only if I leave it out front instead of my driveway. So now I have to make two separate trips to put out my trash/recycling on the driveway and my compost on the other side of my house. I am not sure why Garbage to Garden can't figure out where my driveway is when the City of Portland doesn't have this problem. I think Garbage to Garden is a great idea and I hope that they continue to grow and develop. However, I hope they work on improving their routing system read more
