Step into the 70's when you walk into this mom and pop restaurant where furnishings are old but well kept and clean. It is better inside than the rundown surroundings. It opens at 7 am weekdays, 8 am weekends and close by 2 pm each day (as of November 2023). Good place to come for dinner food at 7 am in addition to breakfast food for night shift workers. Not much to look at from the outside but clean inside. We love supporting small businesses so we tried them out. Chiliquiles (fried corn tortilla chips with sauce and cheese) were VERY spicy. I spice is different for all but this was spicy but decent. Eggs on top were cooked perfectly. Machaca was very good as well. I also liked the beans a lot. What I didn't like at all was the water we ordered was the 16.9 oz bottle from Sams Club and they charged us $1.75 each! That is BS. Coffee was $2.00 which makes up for the water charge. Service was good from the guy working. Overall a good place, I recommend this place. Support the little guys! read more

I have always loved the food here since 2013. They owners and cooks are very nice and food is always good. I honestly prefer this restaurant to Jerrys they just dont get enough recognition to be big. We were driving back home to California on a Sunday and found this little mom and pop spot and it was sooo good! We had stuffed sopapilla with red and green chili, chili cheese burger with homemade fries. The green chili was amazing and the waitress was the owner who was a sweetheart. I had a very disappointing experience at Garcia's. The waitress brought out a very small portion of chips and salsa. The salsa had nice heat but little flavor. I ordered the special of the day, a Chimichanga. She asked me if I wanted it red or green. I asked for it Christmas style. When the food arrived I asked for more salsa and the waitress brought me another tiny serving. The red and green sauces on the Chimichanga were barely noticeable. The cook must have dished them out with a teaspoon. There was no spice evident in the main dish. It was like the kind of Mexican food you might get in North Dakota. When the check came i noticed that they charged me $1.75 for the extra salsa! Who ever heard of such a thing? Not only that, but they also charged $1.75 extra for the red & green sauce. I protested about the charge for extra salsa and the waitress pointed out a small sign on the other side of the restaurant that said they charge $3.50 for each additional serving of chips and salsa so she "only" charged me half. She did offer to let me take the few remaining chips with me and not charge me for a take out container. I won't be coming back. read more

Heading out of Gallup on Easter Sunday, we decided to stop for our last dose of green chile before crossing into Arizona. As we drove down Route 66, Garcia's was the only place open, and they sure delivered! Can't go wrong with a place that advertises carne adobada and used bicycles for sale! Stopped for the night here in Gallup and this place was next to our hotel. After reading the fabulous reviews, it was a no brainer, we were eating here. Now this place is pretty small and you won't get a margarita or beer, but it's well worth the food! We had the tacos Alhambra and they were delicious. Now my husband is a wimp so he ordered his without the freshly diced jalapeño, but not me. The corn tortillas fall apart, so be prepared to get a little messy. The salsa is hot, but I loved it. Not impressed at all! The young man that waited on our table was polite, but did not offer up any recommendations or suggestions, as it was our first time at this restaurant. I was with a group of five people, my grandson and I ordered the tamale plate, the others ordered a stuffed sopapilla plate, a chile relleno plate, and a carne adovada plate. The stuffed sopa plate was just "ok", the chile relleno plate was good, the carne adovada plate was very good, but the tamales were some of the worst I have ever had! My grandson and I, who both LOVE a good homemade tamales were so excited when we saw them on the menu and in the end neither of us ate our food. It was most disappointing when I mentioned to whom I believed was the owner that we had not liked the tamales at all, that her only response was "well everyone else loves them.". We stop here whenever we pass through on our way to palm desert. We tried this place just passing through a few years ago and it is on our list of our favorite paces to stop. The green and red salsa are excellent. Every time we go it seems the burritos are bigger than the last. The owner is the chef and he takes a lot of pride in what he does. The restaurant is very clean and the wait staff treat you like royalty even remembering what we ordered the previous year. Pretty remarkable! It is safe to order anything in this restaurant. In Oct, 2013 we were referred to Garcia's by the Super 8 receptionist. Garcia's young female server was fantastic. She quickly greeted all who came in, promptly seated them, took, & returned with their orders. For a small place, I was extremely surprised at how well the server performed.
