Came for lunch and enjoyed the overall look of the restaurant situated in the middle of a neighborhood. Staff was friendly and attentive. Got the mexi burger that looked great when it came out of the kitchen but was just ok. Lacked any kind of seasoning. The fries however really killed the dish. Hardly cooked, soggy and covered in grease. Common theme again no seasoning. The Mexican dishes coming out though looked good so maybe I ordered the wrong thing. I'll probably explore other spots before returning here. read more

Was looking for some good Mexican cuisine while stopped in Gallup for the night and Genaro's delivered! The staff was friendly and welcoming and very timely in getting water, menus, etc out to the table. I had the Stuffed Sopapilla and it did not disappoint. Bursting with all kinds of flavors in addition to the Christmas style sauce I had ordered, I am a new fan of this dish I had never tried . I will definitely return to Genaro's on my next stop in Gallup! read more

They are not kidding with the patience with our staff sign at every table in this restaurant popular with locals. It is well worth the wait for the delicious cooking and the more than generous portions. The green chili is not as spicy hot as many other restaurants. Come hungry. Locals do know best. read more

Honestly, the service was horrible. It isn't what it useto be. Servers just stand around and watch you.. not to mention how they don't even bother to ask if you want refill, or napkins. The busser, Alex was nice he kept checking up on us, even tho he wasn't our server. The girl at cash out desk makes you wait at her register for a while until she "sees" you standing there. Genaro's Cafe is located in an impoverished neighborhood and one of the locals favorite. Their menu consists of both Mexican and American favorites. Looking at other customers orders the burgers fries and chicken wings looked delicious, but I would feel cheated not having enchilada's & tamales Christmas stile. Hubby and I both ordered the 'crispy taco, cheese enchilada, tamale, Posole combo', hubby had green chili smothered and I have Christmas style smothered. The red sauce was made with Guajillo peppers-delicious, the green it have to be Anaheim peppers (Green chilies) were chopped in a delicious green sauce. Hatch peppers are not in season. Cheese enchiladas was not to my liking they used shredded cheese that did not hold inside the corn tortilla which had the consistency of having been microwave. The crispy taco was your typical store-bought taco shell, nothing special - The ground beef in the taco lacked flavor. The tamale masa was very mushy surrounding a small amount of shredded pork. The Posole was not served as a stew or soup - just a side of hominy. The refried beans and rice were average. The large sopapillas were delicious - served with real honey, not honey sauce. I love doing business with Genaros and Gigi. The restaurant is immaculately clean and remarkably busy from opening to closing. The service is great, knowledgeable and friendly. The food is all made on site, truly authentic to their recipes. They are one of the few places you can get Posole year round. The variety is wonderful, Chile top notch and the sopapillas spot on for freshness and not over or under cooked. Genaros has been part of Gallup from when most of the population were children. The food is stellar, the only thing that surpasses the food at Genaro's is the owner, Gigi. He work ethic to the business and her staff is well known. She takes care of her staff like family. Supporting a business that goes above and beyond for the welfare of employees is worth patronage, and getting an excellent meal and service is worth returning over and over again. read more

The restaurant is very fast paced, it's like the employees are working fast to get you in and out. Our waitress had no interest in caring for her customers. As soon as we came in, she yelled at us asking what we'd like to drink. The chips and salsa are good, unfortunately you have to pay an extra $2.99 for a refill on the salsa (chips are free). When we got our food the presentation was pretty, like every other Mexican-American restaurant. However the food wasn't that great. I got the combination plate and it was not great. My plate came with one taco, one enchilada, one tamale, rice, beans, and pasole. My taco fell apart, it was mushy. My enchilada and enchilada was cover with green chili sauce. The green chili sauce was beautifully delicious. However the enchilada and tamale was mushy. Not really my first, second, or third choice to eat. I am not familiar with Gallup, maybe there are better places to eat in town. Unfortunately I do not recommend this place. If you're curious, try for yourself. Been a Gallup resident for over 10 years now. Not really a fan of Mexican food, but started getting into it. Phoenix Az, has the best authentic Mexican food, but their chili is weak. NM Mexican food is all about chili. This place was good and would recommend. Stuff sopa was the best I've had. Would I come back here and try more? I sure would. Staff was ok, place wasn't packed. Server we had didn't come check on us maybe just once. Came in thirsty and had a cup of empty water for awhile. Good place to eat just need to pay more attention the guest .. read more

If no star rating was an option I would definitely use that feature. This place has really gone down hill. The service is horrible, the lady at the cash register is very rude and unfriendly. They have a sign that states "they are not a fast food place" and make customers feel like they are the rude ones. The lady in the front literally told me to "get the fuck out" after she cashed me out. At this point fast food vendors provide better service. Genaros has gotten too ghetto for business. The salsa and chips were great! the chips had a nice kick to it and homemade flavor essence going on. I ended up ordering the grilled steak burrito, that was smothered in green chile. Talk about some powerful flavor?! Oh my goodness!!! The batch of green chile was so fresh and oh so hot! With it marrying the flavors of the grilled stick with each and every bite! I also loved how they gave you a sopapilla and a side of honey with your meal, sopapillas are already delectable, and they pair great wirh a nice cool down for a hot batch of green chile. I ate here for lunch and I got myself a combination plate with red chili, usually the red chili isn't as hot as the green but the red was super hot!! While driving through Gallup there are very limited choices when it comes to tasty food. We tried several other restaurants before this one, but unfortunately they were closed for the day. Apparently yelp did not get the hand written sign from the window. Upon arrival we were excited because the cafe seemed to have many patrons inside. What a disappointment once inside. I could look past the small tight tables and loud ambience, but I could not get past the terrible excuse for "Authentic Mexican " food.
