Garden Gate Farmer Market Review... (I don't recommend Garden Gates Gift Baskets and Fruits and Veggies.) My family has enjoyed Garden Gate for the last 30 plus years. I thought I had a great relationship with the Garden Gate family. Over the last few years... Dale has been selling conventional fruit as organic fruit et veggies from the Amish. Charging big prices for conventional fruit. The apples and other fruit is obvious gmo with apeel. I bought two expensive fruit baskets for my two mothers... and they provided me with two baskets that didn't have the items I purchased... I bought the baskets for the banana bread loaf and other high quality items. I was disappointed when I picked up the Fruit Baskets on Mother's day??? I lovingly mentioned to Dale... I bought these baskets for the banana bread and other high end items... which they didn't have included. Dales, reply? Get over it... You'll be fine? He replaced the Bread with two small blue berry muffins? I didn't buy a basket with banana's, muffins or grapes... Dale wasn't even gracious and offer to replace these items. He told me to give over it? And, laughed at me... My mother's don't care for banana's, grapes, or muffins... the basket's I ordered didn't have these items in them??? What the heck? So, if you frequent Dales market (Breckenridge Lane, Lou, Ky)... organic fruits starts with a #9 on the fruit and veggies... the water melons aren't ready until the middle of the summer... I bought 1/4 of a watermelon from Dale... cost me $8 and wasn't ripe at all. The apples started with a #3... this means conventionally grown with pesticides. Bugs, birds, rodents, etc.. won't eat conventionally grown fruits or veggies. When you order a basket... take the order and compare it to the order you bought... it says what's included in each basket. I'm not shopping there anymore... Buyer beware. read more

All their flowers looked beautiful. They had a variety of plants to choose from. Staff was friendly. There was so much to choose from that it was hard to narrow it down to one thing. They have fruits and a variety of things from flowers, stones for the yard, ponds, chimes, etc... The biggest one for me is that they carried my Ale8 soft drink. I wasn't expecting that. If you have never visited the little market and are in the area, this would be a nice little spot to stop, look, and shop. read more

Upon a friend's enthusiastic suggestion we stopped by here, and it is a rare find near us. 'https://www.gardengatemarket.com/ ' gives one a good idea of what is there, as do most of the Yelp reviews. This small store makes a big impression due to fresh, clean, well-organized stock and a busy deli-counter too! Our substantial, pimiento and Italian, sandwiches with pickle and chips made a complete meal and I grabbed some fudge, summer sausage, + a slice of cake too. Crisp looking, fresh vegetables, plants and yard decorations, and unique special condiments there for sale, made this a homey, country store environment and a deli stop for fresh sandwiches &cold sodas, during a workday, or on your way home in late afternoon. Great News!!!! Garden Gate won't be using Apeel or Bio engineered foods!!!! Most of their foods are from the Amish farmers!!! As of late, I can no longer shop at Krogers, Sam's Club, and most big box stores. 100% of their foods are using Apeel (terrible toxins to preserve old fruit and veggies) actually, makes me sick. And, 100% foods are bio engineered... like they use seed oils in everything... which makes me very sick. This is why there is so much sickness in America. Seed oils is like eating petroleum for your car... very toxic. Now, all the big chain stores are putting toxic plastic on your fruits and veggies that can't be washed off. Sadly, the Apeel foods are un edible. And, often rotten inside. Very sad.... Bill Gates is putting this on all the food worldwide, accept, European countries. Stopped in here around 10 a.m for some tomatoes, peaches, deli lunch meat, a pretzel bread loaf, & other few things. One side door marked for new entrance & former main entrance marked as cut. Arrows were on floor and a sign encouraging social distancing. Very few customers were in while I was, which was good as it's a smaller place. Found my items quickly & easily, socially distanced at the check out line. Plexiglass was at the check out but the staff member checking customers out was not wearing a mask. I don't recall if the deli staff member was wearing a mask either. Update: many other reports of deli & other staff not wearing a mask to protect others. This place is not too far away and one of my favorite places. The pretzel croissants are one of the best things I have ever tried. The shop has so much to offer and I highly recommend trying it. We love chicken salad options, sides are delicious, pimento cheese, and don't forget desserts! I noticed they recently started carrying sodas that remind me of Jones brand and can't help but grab a few while I'm there. This place is not just deli, you can get all sorts of sourced local products from potato chips, bbq sauce, veggies, fruits, etc! This is a wonderful local spot for a quick, quality lunch and homemade baked goods. You can also buy plants, other groceries, and garden supplies. I have never encountered negative energy or rudeness from the staff. I'm fortunate that this store is not too far From me, and that I can quickly drop in to pick things up. Because it is a local small business you will see some higher prices, but that money is coming directly back into our community. As I pulled into the parking lot to meet a friend for lunch, I wondered to myself, "Am I in the right place?" It looked like a lovely small nursery, but I was here to eat and there was no clear dining area. After triple checking the sign against my GPS, I parked and headed in. I was greeted by a great little market with baked goods, fresh produce and a small deli counter at the back. The sandwich selection was really good, sides plentiful and the prices were great! You can eat right out amongst the plants if the weather is nice (probably if the weather isn't nice too, but that's on you) or inside at a small dining area with plastic chairs and overhead florescents. A club sandwich, chips, drink and a big cookie ran me less than $10 and a full belly. A win in my book. read more

For as long as I can remember, I have lived right down the street from Garden Gate Fruit Market but never went inside. Just the other day, I was driving my father somewhere and he suggested that we stop by to purchase some local honey for our allergies. Once I set foot on their property, I realized that fruit was definitely not all they sold. There were wind chimes and pottery as well as tons of beautiful plants for sale out front. Inside, they have a deli, fresh produce, locally made jams, jellies, butters, and cheeses. The thing that won me over during my visit was the deli. I am already a sucker for delis, but this one took the cake. They had all of the salads: pasta salad, macaroni salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, and potato salad- and several varieties of each one. I hadn't eaten at all that day, so I ended up getting a meal there. I went with the garden gate chicken salad on wheat bread with lettuce and tomato and I got a pickle and loaded potato salad as my side. I also got a homemade chess bar and a half pound of their chipotle potato salad. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best deli food I've ever had. It was out of this world. I will probably buy a whole pound of each one when I go back- and a few more chess bars! I highly recommend anything from Garden Gate Fruit Market. Love this place so much. We buy our Christmas tree here every year and they have the best pretzel bread in Louisville. Their sandwiches are to die for and I've never been more sad to not be able to have deli meats (pregnant) because all I want is a sandwich from garden gate on their pretzel bread. Let me start by saying that for the past 10+years I have frequented this establishment and spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars supporting them. Last month I went to buy my flowers for my garden, as I do every year; got a cart, Saw two pots that were on clearance that I liked and put them in the top part of the cart. One of the pots slipped through the whole where a child's leg would go and broke. Obviously a mistake on my part but I immediately started picking it up and profusely apologizing expressing how bummed I was because I really liked that specific one, heck I even found a second one just like it and was going to purchase it. While picking up the broken pot, a worker, who I later found out is the owner, while offering no assistance as I'm picking up a broken planter, tells me that I'm going to have to pay for it. I stood up and looked him and said I'm sorry but it was clearly an accident. He then asked me if I was stupid and knew how a cart worked and then told me to go back to Walmart where I belong. What does that even mean? After looking at him in utter shock at what I had just heard come out of an employee's mouth. I turned and went to my car but then decided I would like to speak to the manager. So I walked inside, politely asked for the manager and he steps up and says " I'm the owner." I proceeded to tell him that I shop his establishment often and have supported it for many years and have never been spoken to like that and it's a shame because he just lost a faithful customer. He then said to me "I don't give a f@*&, get out of my store B!&$#!! Needless to say, my jaw hit the floor and I walked out. This is completely unacceptable behavior in customer service. I , myself, have been in customer service for many years and have NEVER witnessed something so vulgar and insulting come from an employee, much less the OWNER!!! He has now lost my business forever as well as everyone that I know. I would avoid this place at all costs unless you want to be degraded and insulted for simply purchasing flowers, God forbid you were to break something. read more

This is by far the BEST grocery, deli and bakery in all of Louisville! Oh my gosh, where to start? It's like when you have a family reunion and you open up the fridge to the best homemade potato and pasta salads, sandwiches, deviled eggs, cake, cookies, you name it. I'm SO happy I found this place. It looks like only a garden center from the outside, but it is SO much more. The employees are great, the environment is airy and beautiful. I went here for the first time a month or so ago and was so glad I did. My visit was all due to PRETZEL CROISSANTS. I usually get them from the Douglas Loop Farmers Market, and sometimes at ValuMarket. They are just too good--so light, buttery, salty--yum! I didn't realized that Garden Gate makes them until I went on the hunt for them one Sunday with my family (who are equally enthusiastic about them). After a somewhat lengthy google search, we finally tracked them down to their origin, Garden Gate, and off we went. Garden Gate is a somewhat small but very well stocked store with a variety of fresh produce. I bought a basket of beautiful, mild-colored mini heirloom tomatoes that were so fresh. I don't remember the exact pricing but it wasn't bad. They have various plants and lawn ornaments out front for sale. They have a well-stocked deli with premade dips and dishes. We tried the pimento cheese and it was outstanding. We also had the Benedictine spread, which I didn't like, but then again I don't like Benedictine. It was a hit with my family though. I'd love to come back and explore more. Now, back to the pretzel croissants. They're about a little under $3, which I know is steep, but believe me it is worth it. PRO TIP: the very friendly, helpful staff person working the sample stand advised us that we could buy the croissants frozen to bake at home! We will definitely be putting in an order for the holidays. Everyone who worked there seemed very connected to the store--I wouldn't be surprised if this was a family business. There's nothing pretentious about this place. I only wish Garden Gate was closer to where I live so I could go more often! I will definitely be back soon. read more

I live very close to this place and love coming here for fresh produce that is priced beyond well. They also have an amazing deli with some of my favorite pimento cheese in the city. And if you have yet to indulge "pretzel salad" just do it. It's a dessert by the way and though it may look highly questionable in its pairings, I cannot stress how yummy it is! In my four yea marriage, my husband and I enjoy going here at least twice a month. Now, as life has gotten busier, of course we don't always have the time but it is always a goal. You can find some of the freshest fruits and veggies here. Also, at the check out counter, desserts which is definitely our shortcoming. Everything is always so fresh even in the dead of winter. Also, they have a deli. We are huge fans of the deli because it is homemade salads that are delicious. The meat is amazing as well. If you're a fan of farmers markets and shopping local. This is the place. On the corner of Bardstown and Breckinridge you can shop year round for local goods. They have tons of fruits and veggies. Many are marked that they've come from local Amish farmers. They have ready to go salads and sweets which are always a treat. Not to mention their great deli bar full of meats, cheeses, and sides. They'll fix you up for lunch in no time and it's good fresh food. I love their turkey wrap with Gouda. They also have annual flowers and perennials in the spring and summer. I visited for the first time on Saturday morning. Not all staff had on masks. The selection of local and homemade jams, sauces and honey is impressive but I purchased several things from the deli that were not fresh and the potato salad had hair in it. Love this place! I come back every year for my plants as they are not only better quality than what you would buy at Lowe's or HD, but also cheaper. I went on a Monday knowing it would be less crowded. They had everything set up so if you are only going for plants, not produce/groceries, you never have to enter the building since they set up an outside register. I made three trips to this market after calling each time to see if they had a particular plant I was told yes each time I got there they didn't have it the last trip when I approach the manager and told him it was hard for me to come there and made three trips he didn't care he just yelled that he didn't have any workers in for me to get a life. What he didn't realize is that I recently suffered a stroke and it was hard for me to make those trips to get my plant.
