I had a little extra time, so I decided to stop by this nursery, and I'm glad I did. It looks tiny from the road, but there's actually a large back section with a great selection. Unfortunately, when I first arrived I couldn't browse the front plants because they were being watered, but I still ended up finding a cute little squash plant to take home. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. They have a wide variety, and I was really impressed with how many different plants and unique options they offer. They also carry houseplants, which is a nice bonus. There's a decent amount of parking, and overall I'd recommend this place if you're looking to liven up your garden. I'll definitely keep them in mind next time I'm on the hunt for a specialty plant. read more

For a smaller nursery, they actually have a really nice variety of plants, and even when they don't have exactly what you're looking for, the staff is more than happy to help you track it down or suggest alternatives. Some plants are very reasonably priced, depending on what you're shopping for, which makes it easy to pick up a few things without overspending. Parking can be a bit tricky since the lot is small, but you can park across the street or even at the CVS next door and walk over, which is what I usually do. Overall, it's a sweet local nursery with helpful people and a good selection for its size. read more

We found super nice folks here, well labeled and healthy plants and a wide variety of herbs and veggies grace this nursery. It has plenty of parking as well. They had fennel, mint, chives and thyme in multiple varieties. We got several! Who knew there is grapefruit mint, orange mint and lemon thyme?! Not me but now we can attempt to grow them! We also got a Berkeley tie-dye and a lemon drop tomato plant! Too much fun in the light rain today! Thanks Mike for your help and thanks everyone there for being friendly and helpful. Jerks! Asked if they could help me find something. Told them what I was looking for. They said "I can show you what we have." I told them I already looked at what they had which was why I was asking. They shrugged and said "oh well, was just trying to help." No, they weren't trying to help. If they were, they'd have tried to order it for me or refer me to somewhere I might find it. Instead they decided to laugh at me and mock me as I walked to my car. Not a good way to treat people, especially someone who would have been a steady customer. Nobody deserves to be treated like that. read more

Cute nursery but organized a little haphazardly. Things weren't super easy to find, but if you wanted to meander and look around, this is perfect! I came here with a friend to get some plants for my apartment and I was impressed with the selection of flowers, trees, herbs, and supplies that they had. I got a lavender plant for ~$15 and some plates to put under the pot for ~$2-3. The flowers and trees were more expensive around $20-30 depending on the type. Its certainly a beautiful place to look around even if you are not a avid planter, and they have a cute gift shop with artistic pots, seeds, and other items for your house and garden. The staff member working was really friendly and explained how they are a family business that has been opened for more than 20 years. Lots of lovely things to look at, prices are a bit higher than the big box stores but that is not unusual. I prefer the smaller places even though they might be a little more expensive. But I really was not able to look around at everything as I am in a wheelchair and not all of the surfaces were ADA Compliant. I think I saw maybe 1/3 of what they had to offer. Was looking for local Carnivorous plants which at most places you only find Venus fly traps, or even more likely nothing but here this was not the case they had several different types. Poor customer service. I wanted to buy some sunflowers they had. I asked how much they were and they answered, "don't know they just got delivered" so I responded, "so they aren't available for purchase?" And she said "not right now and I don't know how long it will take to inventory them".....soooo instead of just trying to figure it out at that moment they rather have lost out on a sale. Very poor business move as there are plenty of nurseries in the surrounding area and will be taking my money elsewhere and also let my friends know as well. read more

We visit nursery gardens throughout the country just for joy. This one has a nice selection with broad variety.

I grow vegetables, which this place is not so good for (feed store is best), but also am looking for berries and fruit trees. I've come to Garden Gate a few times to look at fruit trees and seeds. This place is great for having knowledgable staff. Most of them know a lot about plants, know where in the store a plant will be of you ask for something specific. They will also know around what time of year different plants come in stock because selection is seasonal. Plants come in, then sell out. If you ask a random employee, it's maybe 90% they will know about the plant you are asking about. They will know if you need two of the fruit tree to cross pollinate, or you just need one. They tend to know if the plant likes shade or sun, how big it will get. That kind of thing. They also look it up on their phone sometimes if you ask, which is better than making stuff up. Plants are sorted out into areas. There's an edibles area with fruit trees and bushes, and a native area that is all native Florida plants. That's good for browsing. Cultivars are clearly marked on signs, so it's easy to look up more info on your phone for that exact plant. Inside area has a native wildflower seed selection with things that are so super normal but really hard to source, like spiderwort seeds or ironweed seeds. You really can't buy thosr on the internet, because there are too many fakes where you just get morning glory seeds labeled as something else, and to buy online it has to be through almost small regional societies and clubs and they run out of stock. This is not a focus of the store, but it is something they have that is really hard to find anywhere else. It's maybe 30 kinds of native wildflower seeds in packs that are very north Florida specific. Some things I don't like so much... I have little kids, and the area near the register has lots of beautiful expensive huge ceramic pots. Oh no! And you have to walk past that to get between the two main plant areas - the two main plant areas are separated by the register and a long narrow sidewalk lined with displays of expensive decorative ceramic pots. Oh no! Other bad thing is they stock boring Chinese plants, like loropetalum. Lots of these normal big box store plants from southeast Asia. And, they stock fruit at the wrong season to plant - lots of new stock in spring, but little stock in winter when trees are dormant and it's a better time to plant. Yeah, I know people want to buy leafy pretty trees, so these sell better out of season, but I wish selection in winter of dormant plants was better. Prices are roughly comparable to a big box store, and for trees are within 20% of the Lowes price. But, it's apples and oranges (really!) because you are getting a better selection here and plants are kept better here and much more likely to be healthy. Anyway, it's normal market prices and not bougey expensive prices for the plants. read more

Mainly open on Saturday for browsing. Every other time we drive by they are closed. Nice selection of a variety of hard to find plants. Your paying for the premium for stocking plants that Lowes or HomeDepot won't or don't carry. But I found prices to still be reasonable. If you're looking for unique landscaping plants, etc, try going here. Or if you just want something to do that doesn't cost anything, this is a great place to go, they have bark laid walking trails throughout the grounds. read more

I jumped into gardening several years ago and the Garden Gate staff was absolutely instrumental in transforming me from a killer of plants to a green thumb. I've been here a few times to look around for houseplants and the staff is always very friendly and willing to help you find what you're looking for. However, all 3 of the houseplants that I've gotten here (chinese money plant, golden pothos, and dieffenbachia) are not doing well, despite being easy plants to take care of. I have 25+ houseplants from different nurseries, but these 3 from this nursery are the only ones I've ever had any issues with. Both my pothos and dieffenbachia plants have a mealy bug infestation that I noticed recently. My chinese money plant has several dropping leaves and is only getting worse, even though I have 3 other ones from different nurseries that are thriving under the same conditions. Personally, I would shop at a different nursery unless you have time to thoroughly inspect any plants you want to take home. I should've done that to avoid my issues. I gave 3 stars because the staff is really nice however and they do have a wide selection of plant options at a reasonable price. I will probably be back again because I like the atmosphere here, but I will definitely be cautious. read more

Awesome little nursery located really close to my house. I went there for the first time today, hoping to find some fun ideas of things to plant so I can have a little garden this year! I got some different seeds and then browsed the potted plants section for a bit. The prices are awesome and the staff was very helpful. The woman checking me out gave me a discount on the lantana I bought because it is winter and they tend to wilt during this time of year. This will be my spot in G-ville to tend to all my gardening needs! read more

Unfortunately, their customer service is horrible. I know nothing about plants and when I asked for assistance trying to select what would be best to plant around my home, I was given a flip response of, "you're just going to have to try something."
