May 28, 2026 Well, it was that time to renew my CDL. Although I retired in 2024, I've maintained my license for 31 years and it's hard to have just a regular license. That last time I came here, the experience wasn't bad but not as good as my latest visit. It wasn't crowded and I didn't have an appointment. After checking in, my wait was maybe 10 minutes. I was called up, provided proof of residency, took mu picture and then completed testing (HazMat). I should receive my renewed license in approx. two weeks. Seamless process. If you have a commercial license, don't waste you time at a non-CDL DMV. There's only a handful of commercial DMV's in the state. Check the CA DMV website for a facility near you. I took my Class B CDL test here in Gardena, CA and it was a good experience. The check in process inside was easy and simple. I found parking inside the DMV parking lot no problem. Make sure you have your driving hours sheet with you along with your permit and regular license if it is your first time. After that wait in the back area until you're called by a DMV examiner. I had a 8:30 appointment didn't get called up till 9:30ish , not bad . Remember just study pre trip,skill, and road make sure if you guys are getting a cdl class c with hazmat endorsement you need to make the same wide opens and stay on second lane as any other commercial vehicle .! I'm sad about the bad reviews I've been here 3 times and its always been good for me :( I love going here. They don't hassle me, no one put automatic only or that I've never used air brakes before on my license, no griefing me at all Reminds me of some of the dmvs I stopped into on the road that were kind to me. The parking here is usually 3/4 full and a lot of rvs around, I always feel safe here like, everyone is super nice and people usually recognize each other from somewhere else. read more

Crappy DMV need more instructors for the driving test Was here since 10 am it's not 4 pm and now I won't be able to do my driving test

This place is a joke. These knuckleheads don't know what an appointment is. Check in, get told to wait outside and someone will call you. Sat outside facing the parking lot/road course and all of the trucks lined up to the left. Between 12:00 to 1:45pm not a single truck moved, no pre-trip/air brake tests were performed, no yard maneuver tests were done. Empty. Not an examiner in sight. 3:30 rolls around after 2 or 3 people eventually take their tests. Examiner rolls out to tell everyone waiting to reschedule because it's now too late. Typical government workers. And the worst of the worst government workers because they are probably the lowest paid government employees working for the state. McDonalds workers make what DMV workers make (minus the state benefits). Place is a joke. My trucking school partner had an appointment at 10:30 and wasn't called until 3:15. They open at 7:00am. How incompetent can you be to be running almost 5 hours late when you're 3.5 hours into your workday. Anyone who wants government run healthcare should make an appointment at this DMV and realize how inefficient anything run by the government actually is. read more

To start, I'm going to say I passed my DMV test. But there were issues. For some reason the older female workers attitudes here are some of the worst. I know it's a DMV but almost all of them are miserable. The guys here seem mostly ok. I took a CDL school so my instructor knows this place well. He literally calls out who's going to pass or fail just by the instructor they walk out to their test with. And 90% of the time he's right. Some of these instructors get off on failing people and are just straight up miserable people. I've taken 3 tests here. First of which I was given attitude during my walk around because I wanted to be sure I didn't miss anything so I went over everything a second time. Literally rolling her eyes at me with the "you already passed stop wasting my time face". Then during the test still being given attitude for 0 reason she failed me because I decided not to take a non arrow green left turn. Which to this day I still don't think it was safe to take. From the start I could tell she was looking for a reason to fail me. After I got back my instructor said only one person from his school passed with her. And he barely passed. THATS A PROBLEM! I then took my next test with a cooler guy examiner. And I missed a total of 2/30 points on the test. Dude was super cool and you could tell he doesn't hate his life working there. Professional but respectful. Explain how I go from not lasting 15 minutes to almost getting a perfect score? My 3rd test was for my manual restriction. My instructor wasn't a total B but she hit me for a ton of points for shit I made sure to do. She said I never moved my head, but I literally made sure to move my head on intersections, crossroads lane changes and even driving straight. Hell I even looked out my back window to show her my heads literally almost turning around. Yet she hit me for looking out the back window, she even said "It's not a bad thing, but you looked out the back window too much. I want to see you use the mirrors and move your head around more." Again I only looked out the back window after I checked my mirrors to make it seen I'm moving my head checking my surroundings. She also asked me about 2 road signs I absolutely never saw. And I have perfect 20/20 and was looking. When she asked I had no clue if she was just asking about the speed sign or the truck rout sign. Which both weren't anywhere in sight when she asked. So idk what signs she saw to this day I even drove by after the test and saw nothing where I was marked for missing signs. Honestly the instructors are some of the worst. Passing is 90% dependent on who you get and don't get than how safe and well you actually perform on your test according to DOT/DMV standards. Again if you come here to test, good luck. I do not know what kind of process they have for commercial driving test appointments here. But it is appalling & unjustified to have someone wait 8+ hours for their test to only tell them that their appointment is cancelled due to the time! NOT ONLY ONCE BUT TWICE! Do they not know how to run appointments that they literally have to wait for last minute to let the person know! People set aside time from their personal days to be here for them not to take that into consideration! Will be filing a complaint in hopes that even makes a difference! read more

Be prepared to wait for parking small parking lot if you can Lyft or have someone drop you great THERE IS NO STREET PARKING AT ALL!!!...if it's busy don't come in after 12 if you want to take written test. Good luck to everyone! read more

My friends told me that get CDl in Los Angeles is very difficult. It is not true! If you ready, you will pass the behind-the-wheel test! My examenor Julia was polite and kind! Be advise though that if you schedule an appointment at 1pm it is possible that you will be not able to complite the whole process because of the office closure. Also there are no appomtments but if you check everyday you can find one. Thanks again for that DMV!! read more

Super efficient, professional and patient staff here. I passed my CDL class A license on my first try. I felt really confident I was going to pass because my school was amazing at preparing me, but it honestly really helped to have a test examiner that was just kind and patient and didn't seem like they were actively rooting for me to fail. The demeanor of the examiner can go a long way to putting you at ease and letting you just focus on the exam - on all the stuff you know you can perform. So I'm super grateful to the staff here for being patient, answering questions thoroughly and not making me feel rushed. I had Peter as my examiner and he was really good at his job - super calm, easy going and optimistic. He was super professional and proficient at his job - and again, just the sense of calm he had, made it so much easier to focus on the exam. The short dmv instructor was super rude and very anal about everything, I named everything on the outside inspection but he said I did not give enough detail when I in fact did. I'm trying to be a truck driver NOT A MECHANIC ! The dmv in Fontana is way more professional. It took everything in me to keep from cussing out this horrible instructor , this guy kept rolling his eyes and didn't say good morning back when I greeted him. Passing at this dmv depends on what instructor you get . This dmv is where dreams go to die . I believe some trucking schools pay these instructors under the table so that they can pass . read more

I've been to this location twice to take my Class A test. Both times the women examiners were completely miserable, void of any personality beside projecting that they couldn't care less about helping you. I get it, it's work and they probably take a lot of shit but at least try to be a human being. They don't even feign pleasantries, not even a hello and barley got their names. Both times I got different feed back for the coupling portion of the walk around. There is zero consistency when it comes to testing. Certain examiners want somethings done one way and others want it done a different way and it's just a crap shoot trying to guess what they want. My instructor from school tried to give me advice about certain examiners but never got the ones he pointed out. This time around my examiner (Evelyn, I believe was her name) marked me down for not checking my turn signals and lights which I 1000% did because I commented that even though we checked them from the outside I was checking them again. I even said to her, yes I most certainly did those, she shrugged me off and proceeded to still mark me down for those. Maybe if she wasn't on her phone she would have seen that I checked them. This report is only about the written test process. I arrived at about 15 mins before open no appointment. I was about the 9th person in line. I took the 2 tests I needed to complete (combo / air-brake) and was done at 35 after. This was a much better experience than when I did the general knowledge with an appointment at the other DMV in Hawthorne I think. I already had my test slip so I got to go straight to take the test. I may have saved a lot of time because I didn't have to go to a window. But it seemed 10X better than the regular dmv. read more

I went here for the first time on Monday morning around 8.30am, and I must say I was impressed how they handle there operation! You check in with a worker outside the facility door. They ask you what your here for & they check to make sure you have what is needed before moving forward. I checked in online, so that definitely saves you some time. When I finally went in, I sat down and to my surprise it was quiet. They had 3 ladies helping and they we're all very courteous. The only bad thing, & why I didn't give them a 5 star was parking. Parking lot doesn't hold a lot vehicles. And there's really no where to park because street is full with cars as well. Other then that, the whole process for my renewal for my license was 45 minutes and I like the fact they only handle commercial license drivers! Keep up the good work! I thought this place was going to be another Dmv that was going to be just like the rest---CRAZY!! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this place if just for us commercial drivers and that they take care of just about all of our needs. The place is nice, modern and the staff is friendly and best of all the wait time is pretty good. I had to add a passenger endorsement to my license and the lady that gave me my test was knowledgable, professional and curteous. Ms Sanchez gave me some pointers for improving on my walk around so that when I came back I passed with Mr Peter whose also a professional type. Overall a good place to go and I give them props for getting this Dmv right. Go there you will be glad you did just know that parking is kinda minimal and the area is terrible, so dont park on the streets if ya dont want your car vandalized or stolen. read more

These people work so slow it's crazy they don't care to help you out! In the morning there was like at least 10 testers outside after 12pm it's like they all disappeared!
