In my previous dental office in Manhattan cleanings were done by an hygienist. I complained to Dr.Yen about a front tooth that had rotated and was pressuring the tooth next to it and my top and bottom lips. She referred me to Putman Orthodontics to see what they could do about it. I saw Dr. Lee at P.O. who told me he could not help me and he was going to call Dr. Yen to work out another plan for my case. She also referred me to Valley Endodontics for evaluation because she was not sure if I needed a root canal. The day after seeing Dr. Lee at P.O. I called Precision Arts and I was transferred to Michelle, The office manager, and explained what had happened with Dr. Lee. She told me to call back two days later to speak to Dr. Yen. Two days later I called and Michelle told me I would have to come in to speak to Dr. Yen. I went in the same day to find out the results of her conversation with Dr. Lee and what the plan was to fix the discomfort I had been experiencing. Dr. Yen looked puzzled, obviously she did not have a plan and she did not confirm having discussed my case with Dr. Lee. When I insisted to find out what was the plan she and Dr. Lee had reached during their conversation she abruptly left the office and sent the office manager to escort me out of the office. It is outrageous that an health professional treats a patient this way. I am glad it ended first visit because with this type of treatment it would not last another visit. Any way I was looking for a dentist that could treat any issues that would come up, be sure about what should be done and not give me the run around sending me to other facilities for further evaluations and at the end with no solutions.

I ultimately agreed, but I wish this discussion had taken place during the consultation so I could have considered the treatment and financial implications beforehand. The most concerning part of my experience occurred during my crown placement appointment on June 9. When I respectfully shared this feedback and mentioned that I had already discussed a payment plan for the additional crown with the office manager, Dr. Loeb abruptly left the room and stated that she would not cement my crowns unless payment was made in full. As a patient in the middle of treatment, with three prepared teeth awaiting final restoration, I felt scared, vulnerable, and distressed. I understand that dental practices have payment policies, but I did not expect my concerns to be met in this manner, especially after I had already been working with the office on a payment arrangement. I appreciate Dr. Roman, the office manager, and the practice owner for stepping in, resolving the situation, and allowing my treatment to be completed. However, I believe patients deserve clear communication, professionalism, and respect, especially when they are in such a vulnerable position.

Well Dr Kranes put me at ease at my visit. He spent quite a bit of time with my daughter and i at our visit answering the many questions i had about my daughters dental issues and my own personal concerns about some cosmetic issues. JZ Family Dentistry lacks transparency and professionalism…read more On Feb 20, 2024 I went into JZ Family Dentistry for a tooth filling. After the procedure I was shocked by a combined $600 bill for the filling and a previous checkup. I was not informed prior to my treatment that JZ Family Dentistry wasn't in contract with my Delta Dental plans PPO. I had asked multi times prior with reception if they accepted my insurance and was told "yes" they did without any additional information. Because of this I received services from JZ Family Dentistry under the presumption they were a "preferred provider" with my Delta Dental insurance when actually they were a "secondary provider." This is an unacceptable concealment of JZ Family Dentistry's insurance policies that should of been disclosed as soon as insurance information was asked. The quality of the dental work performed was also subpar. The filling I received was poorly done, and as a result, the affected tooth became highly sensitive to warm and hot temperatures. With the help of a separate dentist I had to undergo a root canal procedure to address the damage, incurring additional costs and unnecessary pain. This lack of disclosure about JZ's insurance policy and the inadequate dental treatment have left me deeply dissatisfied with their services. It is the responsibility of clinics to disclose all relevant information regarding insurance coverage and potential out-of-pocket costs prior to treatment. Furthermore, the quality of dental care provided should meet acceptable professional standards to avoid causing harm and additional expenses to patients.

As a new patient attending my very first appointment, I was taken aback by the number of dismissive and insulting remarks made throughout the visit. To make matters worse, my treatment was cancelled the day before my second appointment due to delays involving insurance payment issues stemming from my previous insurance being incorrectly listed as the primary coverage. Additionally, a claim was submitted for a procedure that was never actually performed. I was even asked by the insurance provider whether I wanted to file a complaint or formal grievance regarding the matter, but instead chose to give Dr. Estwick and his office the benefit of the doubt and allow them the opportunity to correct what I hoped was simply an administrative error. Unfortunately, that same level of understanding and respect did not appear to be extended to me as a patient. Once a dentist accepts someone as a patient, they assume a duty of care toward that patient -- not merely a duty of care that begins once the first insurance payment is received or the type of insurance a patient has. Regardless of insurance status or personal circumstances, patients deserve to be treated with professionalism, dignity, courtesy, and basic human respect. Needless to say, I have chosen to move on and seek a dentist who genuinely wants to provide care to every patient who walks through the door.
