I've had many fun walks and adventures here over the years, from eating Panda Express here with my friends during free period in high school, to having my first kiss here when I was 17 (awkward as heck, but it happened). From here, you can get to Mission Street, and the Downtown area, in a less than five minute walk. Play with your kids, then get a Thrifty ice cream at Rite Aid, or spend a little time and share a banana split at Fair Oaks Pharmacy- you can't lose either way! There are hilly areas to do cartwheels, or run up and and down. In the summertime, Garfield Park hosts the Concerts in the Park series, which is a nice family and/or friend event to attend. Lots of people bring their blankets, and a picnic and listen to the various talented groups performing that week. There are also many trees, so if you want to be alone and read in the shade, you absolutely can do that, it's amazing how people leave you alone, unless they're lost, then it's understandable, and you gladly help them, because if you were lost, you'd want someone to help you similarly. I also love it because they upkeep the flower beds nicely, which is not the easiest to do. The play sets have sand-based flooring, which brings back memories of the playground I grew up going to in Sherman Oaks, which was amazing, even though I got stepped on because I was waaaaaaay smaller than the other kids playing. I think it's better than the rubber or mulch play areas, to be honest, because the thought of my kid being on rubber that is melting, and what might be emitted into the air, and breathed in by said child is kind of daunting. But don't take my word for it, I don't have kids (yet)! Come here, and you won't be disappointed! read more

So much better than the Rose Bowl for early morning workouts. 6:30 am when the sun hasn't risen, birds are softly chirping, incests are the only thing a buzzing. Yup peaceful small but cozy park. They have an excellent but smaller trail where you can run (not an overbearing trail). Grass is moist not soaking wet like the grass at the Rose Bowl. What I love about this park is that it's clean and it is located in one of my most favorite neighborhoods ever. What you need to know. They have gazebos that you can rent out for bdays and bbqs. They have a playground section that is intended for 2-5 year olds. The park is not too crowded and is the perfect place to have a picnic. One of the best local parts around! The park is set in a very nice neighborhood and it's always clean and safe. I like biking here from time to time on a nice day and just hanging out on the grass. You can do anything from bringing your kids here, to a nice picnic, or even a photo shoot. There's set tables and benches around for your convenience and a bathroom as well. WORD OF ADVICE: Everyday around the times of 2pm - 5pm, the park is usually conquered by kids. So if you're looking for a quiet afternoon to yourself, good luck with that one! read more

Very nice park. Well maintained and great facilities. Was here for my friends son's 1st birthday. They reserved the area with the 2 shaded areas. The park was very spacious. They had a small train ride for the kids and the park was big enough to accommodate it. They even had a food truck there for the party and was able to have a reserved spot for them. read more

I absolutely adore this park! Being an LA native, I use to spend so many weekends here just under the tree and soaking up the sun, reading a book or napping. This park is everything a park should be -- the front entrance has a mini rose garden with a gazebo and bench. Tons of shady trees and nice green grass for a picnic. My nieces love to run on the grassy area, which is hilly enough for rolling down :) Its never too crowded here and you see a nice bunch of people -- kids playing with their parents, people reading. My nieces particularly loved the bushes by the picnic tables which were chock full of lady bugs. We spent all afternoon lady bug hunting and doing yoga (or as my niece calls it, yoda..."hey! you're distracting my yoda...") There is a playground, tennis courts, a rose garden, plentiful benches for picnics, rolling grassy hills and strolling paths. Something for everyone! read more

I won't give you the run around: There are a lot of kids running around. Perfect for babysitting and letting your kids run around. There are a lot of adults around. I bought a condo nearby so my kids could grow up with this as their neighborhood park, so I guess you could say I like it. It has just about everything you could ask for. A nice playground with a perfect tree for climbing. Lots of trees for shade. Lots of wide open space for kids to run around. The park has a different personality on the weekends with people coming from all around. On weekdays it's much less crowded and more just the neighborhood folks. My one complaint is that some do treat the park as an off leash area. I haven't heard of any incidents and most owners seem responsible, but I've witnessed at least 2 occurrences of really big dogs running toward children as their owner yells from afar "don't worry, she's friendly!" Not okay, people. But overall it's a great park and really a testament to South Pasadena's values. read more

Good memories. 2000, say hello to Los Angeles. I was in the 'hood' where kids played kickball and tag randomly. And shoot there were dogs too. At least grandpa was around to take me here after school. 2001, uprooted to Arcadia. Driving back though I would see this everytime becaus we took Garfield Avenue from Huntington to avoid traffic. 2010 becomes my go to park after a night out. Pretty quiet and spacious and has well lit areas so you don't feel too sketched out. 2011 I'm in college and i watch "Strangers Again" by WongFu. What do I see? Garfield Park! Cultural fame brings filmmakers... 2021 !? When I'm old I'll come by this place and recognize its power for many generations of South Pas'ers and other SGV residents There's a playground, swings, and a random food truck sometimes chills at the... south side of the park. Avoid going during 'rush hours' if you want your own space: weekend afternoons especially. read more

Really nice park with a lot of space to run around. Came here for the Eggstravaganza 2019 with the little ones. They had two bounce houses, a bunch of games and an inflatable maze. The kids had a lot of fun doing the egg hunt and then the houses. The egg hunt however was more of a egg grab with a 40 by 50 area roped off and the eggs littering the grassy area. They do a good job dividing it up by age groups and telling the kids to limit them selves to 4 eggs. That proves hard when a kid returns with 30 eggs and the parents are saying "great job"& "look how many you got" & "boy its a shame we are so competitive that we forgot to teach you math". The event was enjoyed more by my 3 year then my 7 year old so I'm not sure when she will age out of this. I think next year will be a go. read more

Just moved to the area, so I was in need of a nice place to bring my dog. As soon as I got to the park and saw that it was emission free, I knew this was a place for me. Even around sundown it was lively at the park with a good vibe. People hanging out in the grass doing work, a birthday party, drone flying, and kickball. There was a clear area in the back, next to the tennis courts where I brought my dog to play a bit of fetch. The park is well maintained, and I even met some other friendly dog owners. Although it was about a half hour walk from my house, I will definitely be frequenting this park. read more

I love this park, and so does my 1.5 year old toddler. There is plenty of street parking. The park always looks clean. The playground area is perfect for toddlers to school age, and at least the toddler portion seems to always be shaded whenever we go. We've always gone in the late afternoon (after 2p). There are 3 play structures for various age/developmental levels, so you don't really have to worry about older kids running over your little one unless your little one dares to venture over to the older kids section (like mine does). There is a low, big tree in the middle of the play area (which provides shade for the sand area and the smaller structures) which the older kids like to climb. My baby enjoys the toddler swings (although there are only 2 so sometimes there is a wait), playing in the sand, and climbing the structures and sliding down the slides. The park isn't small, but it also isn't huge. There are lots of trees and plenty of grass and shade. There is cemented pathways around the perimeter and through the park. On any given day there are people tossing frisbees, playing catch or kicking a ball back and forth, napping, walking their dogs, jogging, just strolling through the park, or sitting on the bench chatting away with other parents while their children are playing. On the weekends there seems to always be a party at one or both of the gazebos. There's also tennis courts, and I've seen what looks to be an exercise class? The park is in a great neighborhood, and we always feel safe. We brought friends of ours and their baby here after lunch once and they loved it, too. Pros: 1) Great for toddlers 2) Plenty of street parking 3) Good size park with ample grass area and shade for lounging or even group sports. 4) Good for parties (purely based on observation. I've never actually booked a party here so I'm not sure about the booking experience and/or price if applicable). 5) Great neighborbood. 6) Feel safe. 7) Pathways for walking/running. Such a lovely park for BBQ's with friends. I love the summer concerts and see all the cute little kids having fun on the apparatus, swinging on the swings enjoying their childhood, selling baked goods and the Girl Scouts selling cookies. So cute. My friend took her wedding photos and the background of the park was beautiful. I love how I live so close to enjoy a walk around the park. read more

My first time there, I felt that had already been here. It's funny how some things turn out since I saw this park originally in a YouTube video. That's also because I've seen that video roughly 50 times. I felt that I was part of the scene from the video. I felt a connection. Cute little park with a terrific playground for the kids (both toddlers and slightly older ones too!) The whole playground area is set up like a giant sandbox so there's plenty of room to kids to dig even when it gets crowded. And it will get crowded on weekends. Generally, everybody is super friendly and parents tend to do a pretty good job of policing their kids. The park also has lots of grassy areas to run around in. I always say that some day I'm going to use the tennis courts (but I never seem to find time). Maybe next year? Also, in the summer, the City sponsors bands to play a series of concerts. Lots of people come to hang out and socialize. You get a real sense of community. read more

Great little park especially if you have young ones. Lots of grass for running, tumbling, and eating impromptu picnics. Little cement paths winding throughout so the little ones can ride their little plastic vehicles at break neck speeds narrowly missing the uninitiated trekkers. A great playground replete with sand, soft raised play areas, various slides and ingenious climbing apparatuses. In addition there are a couple gazebos near the play area prefect for parties, or just weekday relief from the often intense sun of South Pasadena. But if you have little ones, come here for toddler camaraderie, and for meeting other families in the area. read more

This is a great park. It is very clean, has a great playgound for kids, lots of open fields to play sports or lounge around, tennis courts, bathrooms with water and soap. Great neighborhood park in a nice neighborhood. There is ample street parking. The park has two tennis courts, a playground for children, restrooms, and plenty of grassy areas for a picnic or exercising. There are also doggie poop bags situated at different locations in case you forget to bring some of your own. I come here for boot camp, so I'm usually at the grassy area by the tennis court. Now, in the past, I would've given this park 4 stars, but it seems that in the recent months, this park has gotten worse. This is due to some people using it as a dog park. Yes, a dog park where they have their dogs off leash. In the warmer months, a group of regulars congregate here with their dogs. There are usually around 5 dogs or more. The dogs are off leash and the owners let them run around. Now, I'm no expert on the rules in South Pasadena, but I would imagine that it's illegal to allow your dogs to freely roam off leash at a public area other than a dog park. There may be people there who are afraid of dogs, or perhaps other people might be waking their dogs on leash and the last thing they want to do is encounter a loose dog that's going to annoy their dogs. I own a dog, and I would not like if a dog that's off leash comes up to my dog and me. My dog would really not like that and we'd both have a miserable time. For safety reasons, and to prevent lawsuits, I think people should keep their dogs on leash. Also, if there are doggy poop bags available, you would think that the owners would use them to pick up after their dogs. It's just common courtesy, but I guess some people don't think they have to do such a thing. I've stepped on dog poop here before. Aside from the dog issue, this park is a great neighborhood park. It's great for walking or running on the paved walkway. It's great for parties and picnics. read more

The only downside is the "trench" in the park that allows water to attract mosquitoes.

So far this is our favorite park to take our baby boy to sit and play in. It's peaceful, has lots of shade, feels private, and is full of other families and kids. The lawn is very healthy so sitting on the ground is always comfortable. It's right in the middle of a residential area, so parking is easy to find on the streets. read more

Cute park! Attended a bday for the 2nd time. This time we had the picnic shelter right beside the playground (there's only 2) which was great because our toddler was able to play and we can sit within the party tables and still keep our eye on him. There's extra space to put up a canopy, table chairs, and for the kids to play games. Lots of trees at the playground for shade and grass to run around. (though SCV has nicer newer playgrounds all over) The first party we attended last year the time slot ended at 2pm and there's always a party after, so we had to rush and clean up. This time she took the later slot and we were able to stay later! read more

This is our newest favorite park in South Pasadena. It's great for kids. Our daughter enjoys swings, slides to jungle gym. The sand pit is lovely under a huge tree. You can always find sand scoopers, buckets and toys in the sand pit that parents don't mind other kids sharing. The park bathroom is actually clean and am not afraid to use it. Love Garfield Park! I had a picnic at Garfield Park the other weekend and it was perfect. The grass is as green and healthy as grass should be. The playground is plentiful and nicely maintained. There a picnic tables and an area to rent for parties. The people that visit the park are also super nice. I was watching as one child willingly shared his little electronic car with another child whom he did not know. Afterwards, one parent thanked the other parent for being so gracious in allowing his child to share. The exchange was so pleasant and nice to watch. There are two things to note: 1. Mosquitos: A picnic in the evening on the grass is probably not highly recommended unless you bring mosquito repellant. I along with my picnic mates all ended up with multiple mosquito bites...eck! 2. Bathrooms: I took off one star due to the bathrooms. I was a bit shocked that the bathrooms were not maintained as well as the rest of the park. I am definitely not expecting a clean, restaurant bathroom at the park, but I was also not expecting something comparable to a porta potty. Definitely bring hand sanitizer to use. Otherwise, this park is great for families and picnics. read more

Such a cute place for the kiddies. I'm from the Midwest with lots of nature but this park really amazes me. So many useful things going on here. Trees in the middle of the children play area, providing natural shades and a climbing area for bigger kids. My 3 yr old loved the sand box and slides. My 6 month old loved the baby swings. Too bad there was only 2 of those. Had to wait in line. There are pavilions there...I think you can rent to host parties. It was cute and there were bathrooms nearby but I didn't dare peek in with my kid. I have a fear of public bathrooms for the little one. Overall we had fun running him tired for our flight back home. read more

I enjoy this dog park, the only downside is that it's closed all day Tuesdays, which sucks. Also some dogs shouldn't be brought to the dog park if the owner knows it's not too friendly.. my dog got attacked but didn't get hurt, just heard some whining/crying noises which scared me. But I guess we can't always control our feline friends, eventually they will act up because of course they're animals. On the plus side it has a grassy surface so my dog won't get as dirty. This dog park is by far the best one I've been to. My pup had a blast! read more
