Taking the time to write a lengthy review here...not to talk smack about this practice, but for any parent out there who has a gut instinct about something and needs encouragement to listen to it... Genuinely disappointed in our experience here. But giving 2 stars vs 1 because most of the staff is super kind and seem like good people. The issue came when I requested a call with Dr. Garfinkle himself to get his perspective on a possible different course of treatment for my 11 year old son. My son has very crowded teeth and an overbite, so I'd been doing some exploring/learning on my own about palatal expanders and airway orthodontics. I'm not an expert by any stretch but I'd been talking to some other parents whose kids had expanders and researching online, so I wanted Dr. Garfinkle's professional opinion. Up until this point we'd just been coming in for annual visits, counting down the amount of teeth my son needed to lose before he could get braces. I was particularly interested because I'd been reading about the benefits of expansion for kids with allergic rhinitis, which my son has always had. Chronic congestion and sneezing for YEARS. The first thing Dr. Garfinkle asked me when we got on the phone and I explained my questions was "I'm sorry, but what do you do for a living?" seeming to imply that I wasn't qualified to have an opinion on the matter. I told him what I did for a living then asked why he was asking and he said "oh nothing, nevermind." When I then told him that I was curious about my kids' friends who had expanders and wondered when they get prescribed vs not, he told me that expanders "aren't about keeping up with the joneses." Moreover, that I should be careful about believing what I read about airway orthodontics because "it's not actually a real thing." I could go on and on about our conversation and how Dr. Garfinkle showed up, but what struck me most was how close minded this doctor seemed to multiple schools of thought, alternative approaches, and emerging science. Disappointing, and not the kind of old school practitioners I'm interested in for my son, especially in such a rapidly advancing world. There's a happy ending though! I'm SO HAPPY to say I found myself at a new orthodontist who, first thing, did much more comprehensive scans and said my son had a super narrow palette, and was a classic case of a kid who would benefit from expansion before braces. Within DAYS of getting the appliance his airway was more open. This is a kid who was constantly congested and sneezing for years, and since expansion, his breathing sounds *clear* and he hardly sneezes at all. I'm so grateful I trusted my intuition, rather than listening to a doctor who's first response to my curiosity was questioning what I did for a living. My 11 year old wanted me to make sure I quoted him: "I feel like my expander has changed the way I breathe and I feel overall better. And I'm so glad we left this place and went somewhere better." read more

I had an unfortunate experience with Dr. Garfinkle. I have a severe underbite that needed orthodontia and surgery, to correct biting, chewing, speaking and other functional issues. Rather than suggest a conservative approach with braces, Dr. Garfinkle approved an accelerated 4-day aligner change not approved by Invisalign. I purchased a device to speed up tooth movement, but it was never provided until a few months into treatment. My tooth moved too fast and I developed an extremely abscess. I lost 90 percent of the bone in the tooth. Dr. Garfinkle or his insurance company has failed to remediate the matter reasonably, despite the Oregon Board of Dentistry issuing a "Letter of Concern." In addition to failing to monitor my periodontal health, Dr. Garfinkle apparently had issues with cleaning his dental instruments. Be very cautious about commencing treatment with Dr. Garfinkle. Once I paid him, I never saw him again, only his associate. His ego is immense and likely led him to be unwilling to resolve this matter with compassion and integrity. Go elsewhere, please. Especially if you have a complicated surgical case. read more

The staff here is phenomenal! I originally found Dr Garfinkle's office because it was within my insurance network. As an adult getting my teeth straightened for the second time in life, the office was very understanding and listened to my needs. I didn't like the fact that I was getting braces yet again, but they had me at ease. Everyone here is extremely professional and polite, Dr Garfinkle is a perfectionist (exactly what I want for me teeth). You can tell that people genuinely like to work here. The office it itself is clean and bright, it's a big operation but they have everything down to a science. The lobby is modern and comfortable with ipads and work stations available as well as a kids play area. The very front of the lobby always has drinks and snacks (I never participate because of my invisalign being on my teeth and not wanting to brush again for a snack, but it's a nice gesture!) read more

Dr. Garfinkle and his staff Seem competent, it's the cost that's crazy. We have a couple of kids Who have been through orthodontics w one more to go. We wanted to find an orthodontist closer to work, Dr. Garfinkel was recommended to us. The other kids had complex orthodontic challenges requiring full braces; $6500 each wasn't in our budget, but we made it work because we could see what we were getting. The price included appointments every few weeks over 3+ years, for each child, and various adjustments, devices and retainers. The last kid had minor orthodontic issues which could be fixed by 6-9 months of Invisaligns. He had one appointment w Dr. Garfinkle where a computer scanned his mouth to get all the measurements. The measurements were sent to the Invisalign company which made the progressive devices. We went back a few weeks later, were handed the devices, told the schedule to upgrade from one to the other, and sent on our way. No braces, no adjustments, no additional devices, zero inperson appointments. We were shocked that Dr. Garfinkel also charges $6500 for this technology-created-patient administered treatment. We recognize there's experience and expertise involved, it's not that we aren't willing to pay a fair professional price, but comparing the two office experiences we cant recommend this office the pricing seems exploitive. read more

My son has been a patient for several years. First to monitor how his adult teeth were coming in, and later for braces. Every single visit was professional, on time and caring. My son's braces just came off, and his teeth are absolutely perfect. We are so very happy with the results. Doctor Garfinkle and his staff are amazing and a joy to work with. This review reflects the overall experience with this office and their business practices. * Sales tactics are way too aggressive * Dental work is average * Appointment reminders are just too many and too annoying * Staff lacks genuine sense of care (you are just another paying patient) The worst part is that when they work they use gloves to protect themselves, not YOU! If you are patient, you will see that they are careless when it comes to touching unsanitized surfaces like their keyboard, mouse or even cabinet handles or knobs. It doesn't matter if they change gloves in between patients as bacteria stays on the surfaces they work on. To make matters worse, the staff rarely cover the nose when working on you, they only cover their mouth and I just find it disgusting when they breath right over your open mouth. Hygiene must be a top priority for a business like this, and now that my dental treatment is over I can finally speak my mind about this company. The last note is about their "emergency" number. It is a joke! The business doesn't open all weekdays and Its hard to find help in case of an emergency, as it happened to me two times. Try at your own risk. read more

I adore how friendly, professional and kind they are to all the needs of the parents and children they serve. From the moment we checked in to the follow up calls Dr Garfinkle made we were overly impressed! The office is extremely thought out with fun games, etc for the kids, teens & yet sleek and modern with coffee for the parents. The staff is amazing! We have had a few different staff members working on our daughters mouth over the last year, each has made the visit stress free. Dr Garfinkle along with his staff are a top notch group. What a great team of professionals! Everyone is so nice. You can tell that everyone likes working there. Besides being funny, caring and a great all around guy, Dr. Judha Garfinkle is a perfectionist, which I appreciate. I am so pleased with my continued results with Invisalign. It is getting close to the end of my treatment. Being a Dental Hygienist, I really appreciate him for providing an annual catered continuing education event for dental hygienists. He also volunteers his time and is the President of the Board of Directors at Smile Oregon, an organization that treats Oregon children affected by cleft and craniofacial conditions regardless of their ability to pay.
