This is an annual apple festival (this year was year #21), without apples! No apples anywhere! And,…read morenot in any recipes...no apple cider, apple turnovers, apple dumplings, or apple pie. There were hot dogs, coffee from the local Pierce Bros. (pretty good), and Kettle Corn, but NO apples! What a shock! There were also, as promised in the title, local artisans selling reasonably-priced local honey in bars of soap and lotion, stained glass, goat's milk soap, and Emu oil soap (ick!), pottery, clothing, angora scarves (with the Angora Bunny right there in a big cage!), as well as kids activities. This was like a country fair, and really cute in the town green, but we were slightly disappointed because we wanted some apples or something delicious with apples. So, we went home and drank our apple cider. Sometimes what you want is what you have! ;)

I have some reservations about the amount of industrially produced meat being sold there. I own an EV but I have a huge hatred of everything related to Elon Musk. It was disappointing to see the Tesla Cybertruck. The amount of harmful climate damaging fumes that the tens of thousands of rockets that he has sent up into space since 2010 would require 170,000 ev vehicles a year to offset the damage, each year. Overall, great event.

I have fond memories of the Garlic Festival I once attended in upstate New York - garlic ice cream, garlic breads, and a world of other creative things to do with garlic, growing tips, etc. Alas, the Quabbin Garlic Festival should be called "Another excuse for a Craft Fair." The rows of food trucks were all selling their usual (not particularly garlicly) fare. The rows of booths were selling their usual Arts and Crafts, without even a hat tip to garlic. The only evidence of garlic was one garlic vendor (from upstate New York). I felt cheated - lots of traffic, $10 admission, long lines and wait to take a 15-minute bus from the parking lot, and essentially no garlic content once we got inside. With that said, it is a lovely Craft Fair, in a beautiful location, with plenty of activities and fair food for the kids. I'm sure it'd be a fine day in the sun for anyone not expecting a garlic festival.

The area that they set up is outside the track area and covers two buildings. The track is nice, other than that there is fair amount of parking but overall driving around the location (that wasn't included as part of the show) there is a lot of areas of open barns and fencing in disrepair. Its hard to judge a location like this because of the many different things they host but i would say for the vintage shows we do, they do a great job.

Unfortunately, I left the fair yesterday feeling sorry for the vendors. Perhaps it's busier in the evenings, but it was strangely quiet during this particular hot summer Saturday afternoon. There are your typical rides, food vendors (fried dough, burgers, hoagies, ice cream, cotton candy....etc.) along with the various carnie rides and games. Only a few rides were actually running. There are several barns with animals and a nice showing of 4H kids. Still...the layout was somewhat disjointed and again...it was surprising how sparsely attended it was. My favorite spots were: -Maple House (syrup, maple candies freshly made onsite, ice cream...etc..and the smell is out of this world) -Horse barn (way in the back behind the other, smaller barns) -Historical barns (some cool stuff in there) -4H display/barn Not sure what the organizers need to do to increase attendance, but they should definitely look at the flow/layout....along with how many days the fair is open. The vendors let us know that it went from Tuesday through Saturday. Even though it's summer, it doesn't give a full weekend of the fair for the vendors to get the kind of traffic that they need.

I was impressed with the organization of both the parking and the selling of admission tickets. Lines moved fast with little wait time. There was the usually variety of foods and I was pleasantly pleased with some of the prices. A corn dog, nachos and a large drink was 10.00. The tractor pull is quite a popular event but there is ample sitting and they even sell ear plugs. I suggest you bring your own. The maple barn was a delight with many maple delicacies to choose from. I'm a little too old for rides so you will have to go to the fair and try those out for yourself!!

What- there isn't a review of this?!?!?! No way…read more Ok. Here's one: THIS FESTIVAL ROCKS. I import out of towners for it. Not the usual mega mall of vendors, it's a locals only scene. Very authentic. Not the largest spread of food, but all A-ok, and not corndogs. The music? World class. The crowd? Super groovy, family friendly but not oppressively so. The "no alcohol" policy? Uh- not heavily enforced b/c there are NO DRUNKS! We get there for the hot air balloon show Sat, & always stay through the last gasp on Sunday. DO NOT MISS the dance tent in back: always a band you are glad to discover back there. Bring a cooler, and an umbrella and sunscreen and GET A PARKING PASS EARLY! (even tho there's a free shuttle to parking as of this year.)

When we went we made it a point to go to the demolition derby which was fun to watch. The thing I like best about the demo was that they had a heat for mini vans which a lot of other fairs do not do. The sitting area for the show was a bit cramped and awkward, but again we had a good time. We also made it a point to grab some food on the way out. We loved their fried dough as well as corn dogs. The staff at the booths were really polite, and the bathrooms were fairly clean in comparison to other fair grounds. Overall, we had a good time and can't wait to go back this year.

This is a cute New England fair, with all the fair staples everyone loves; cute animals, vomit inducing rides, obscene food, and live entertainment. This fair tends to be on the small side, which means small and manageable crowds. The main entertainment is the demolition derby, which is pretty fun to watch (you need to buy an additional ticket though). Besides seeing adorable baby animals, the highlight was tasting wines from two local wineries. We walked away with a bottle from each. It would have been nice to see more vendors; we made it trough the vendors barn pretty quickly without seeing anything of note. The fairgrounds are very easy to find and park at. Overall, a nice time!

Today we dropped into the Guilford Fair Grounds for the first annual Baconfest. This was our first…read moretime coming to the fair grounds and were were surprised to see how many people showed up. This little fair ground was a little tough to find but overall it was a nice little area. The fair ground itself had a few different historic buildings as well as a baseball field. The issue that we had in coming to this location was around parking. The site itself has limited parking and they way people were driving in the lot was chaotic and dangerous. In the end it took us 10 minutes to park after pulling in because people were trying to get in as well as out at the same time. The Baconfest itself was ok, but it was really lacking. We know that they host their annual fair here in a week so we will have to stop back in to see if the experience is different with this event.
