While exploring the airport terminal I spotted this popcorn stand and my sister told me that it's a popular popcorn brand based here in Chicago. Decided to give it a shot and got the Garrett Mix (CaramelCrisp & CheeseCorn). Wow, this is some mighty good popcorn lol. The CheeseCorn is the typical cheese popcorn that I love. Bold cheese flavor. I'm not the biggest fan of caramel popcorn, but I still wanted to try the caramel popcorn here. I actually really like it! The crispness of the caramel popcorn is addicting, and I appreciate that the popcorn isn't overly sweet. At first I tried the two kinds of popcorn separately but of course *the* right approach is to grab a mixed handful and munch on the popcorn that way. The wombo combo of flavors. Ended up mindlessly gobbling up the whole bag while sitting near the flight gate waiting for the departure plane (hey, at least it passed some time lol). Highly recommend! Sorry, no pictures because it was that good and didn't last! I heard this was a must while in Chicago and it didn't disappoint. I had butter popcorn and caramel popcorn. A small was more than enough as it was quite "large" in portion. A small was $3.99. The butter popcorn had REAL butter and you can taste the difference. It didn't even get soggy. The caramel popcorn was good also. Not overly sweet and it didn't get stuck in my teeth which is always a plus. Service was very friendly and welcoming. Definitely a must! read more

This Garrett's Popcorn shop is located to the giant brontosaurus replica, right by the entrance to Terminal 1's Concourse C. They used to give out free samples before the pandemic, but I'm not sure if they do anymore. The woman working behind the counter was hilarious. She was friendly, direct, and quick-of-service! Upon contacting customer service, they insisted on pictures of the tin (hardly eaten) and offered a credit that does not even cover the cost of their smallest size. Everyone in Chicago told me that I needed to try Garrett Popcorn. My niece lives in Chicago and years ago blew us away with their caramel and cheese mix. Thankfully half of the seats were empty on my flight so I did not have a storage problem. I travel a lot, go through many airports, whether in the U.S. or international. There aren't many airports I will either get there early or risk a little time on the connection in order to buy something to bring home. In CDG (Paris), I will wait it out for the Laduree macarons AND in ORD (Chicago), it is the Garrett Popcorn Shop. If you get off the plane right by the shop, you can smell the popcorn. The line can be long so if you are tight on your connection, you may have to pass. Well worth the wait to bring home a taste of Chicago to your friends or family. Pretty fast service but the only one suggestion is when line is long, bring on a second cashier. They'll probably get more business that way. read more

I recently stopped by Garrett's during my layover in Chicago Midway. When I reached the shop, there was no one in line. Since I was a first-time customer, i looked over all the different varieties. The two employees were engaged in shop talk behind the counter and seemingly uninterested in assisting me. The young woman at the register continued to air her grievance about management, etc. The second employee finally asked for my order and packaged it nicely. Again, the cashier looked very stoic and, in a very robotic fashion, rang up the order and flatly stated the total. After paying, the cashier pushed the two bags to me and didn't bother to ask if I needed a bag. She also didn't bother to thank me, either. For all the hype I have heard about Garrett's, this simple transaction didn't impress me. The popcorn is actually quite good, but the service levels are lacking. My husband actually went back and purchased some popcorn for our flight back, and that's when I realized I'd had a bad batch during my first trip. I asked why and my friend was shocked that I had never heard of Garretts. Omagah! This stuff is addicting! I tried one piece of caramel and a piece of cheese on the plane ride home and thought it was ok, what's so special about it? Three days later you have to take the bag away from me otherwise I won't stop munching! The addiction forms at a snail's pace; next thing I see is the bag's empty cheese dusted bottom. Lighter orange fingers compared to Cheetos but orange nonetheless. I bought a jumbo size for the fam, a medium for work, and a small for myself. I'm part of the fam, aren't I? And I work there so whatever I ate some along with my coworkers XD. Caramel is sweeter, heavier than most caramel corn I've eaten. The cheddar cheese gets dense and powdery. Together they're a match made in heaven. One gallon tins, especially the Chicago skyline design, are great souvenirs. I chose to save money and got the original wax paper inside the brown bag. Only ~$15 for a jumbo vs. $33 for 1 gal.! It's a miracle all my popcorn and stuffed backpack fit under the seat in front of me, tried so hard not to check in my luggage! This is my go to popcorn shop when in the Chicago airport (skip the competition in the other terminal)! There is usually a line, but it moves fast. Remember you can sample any of the flavors they have available. They usually even have the limited edition flavors now, and you don't have to go to the actual storefronts. My favorite flavor is still the Chicago Mix (cheddar + caramel popcorn)- it's the perfect combination of salty and sweet. I ask for more cheddar in the mix than caramel though, since I like it skewing to the salty side. I've tried their caramel nut mixes, and those are good, but very rich. Buffalo ranch was just ok (not enough ranch flavor), but the spicy cheese corn was good! I will definitely be back when in the airport. read more
