It was good popcorn. I got the standard mix while my son just got the butter popcorn. I thought it was good, but I can't say it was worth the hype. Would I get it again? Probably, but I would have to go out of my way to do so. The workers at this particular location could've been nicer. It seems they all had a case of having a stick shoved up so far, they couldn't even smile or acknowledge customers in the shop, and that attitude was for everyone. Great location in relation to our latest stay at the Chicago athletic club. We went to get some popcorn before we went home. Luckily there was no line so we were in and out fast. The popcorn was delicious and fresh. We got the standard Chicago mix and also tried some hot cocoa caramel crisp. The Chicago mix is the perfect mix of sweet and salty and the hot cocoa caramel crisp was rich and delicious. It was chocolate covered caramel corn and the chocolate coating was very generous. Saw a Garrett popcorn stand at the airport when we landed. Then, I saw other stands at the pier and in downtown while walking. And then, almost everyone I came across with whether it be a local or a friend who's been in Chicago before, said to make sure to try Garrett's popcorn. Unbeknownst to me, apparently Garrett's is a Chicago thing. A 75-year old establishment that hand makes small batches of specialty popcorn daily. Of course, I went with the highly recommended Garrett mix: combo of cheese and caramel coated mix, last pit stop before I jumped on the flight back to Cali. Not really into flavored popped corn but I can see why the "Chicago-style" or Garrett mix of sweet and salty works. I placed an order online for a tin of smoky bbq cheesecorn and cheesecorn. Last week I received my order and when I opened the box I discovered that I received the wrong order. Instead of a tin of smoky bbq cheesecorn/cheesecorn I received half pumpkin spice (BARF!) and half cheese corn instead. I reached out the same day and asked someone to help resolve this problem by issuing a partial refund, sending me my correct order, or some other remedy. I sent a message through the Garrett website and even included a photo of the open tin showing the wrong contents. And no one has responded. Don't get me wrong, the popcorn is delicious when you ACTUALLY GET WHAT YOU ORDERED. For close to $70 bucks you would hope to get what you paid for. Look at the other reviews on the web and you'll see that this is not an isolated incident. This may have been my last order from Garrett's. read more

Holy Moly! Why didn't anyone tell me sooner that combining two of my favorite flavors of popcorn (cheese and caramel) is an actual thing?! My coworker who grew up in Chicago recommended Garrett's and I couldn't be happier that she did. I was already stuffed from the millions of other things we ate on our food tour of Chicago so we stopped into this location, which was close to our hotel, shortly before heading towards the airport. There was no one in the store at the time and the staff was not particularly welcoming or excited about serving up popcorn... but nevertheless, I shoved a fresh bag of Chicago Mix into my purse and continued on. I didn't get to it until I opened it up on the plane, and boy, I had to stop myself from eating the entire thing. I came to find out later that you can order commercially-produced bags on Amazon (even saw it at my Costco in Atlanta) but it really is not the same as the fresh one. Definitely recommend getting yourself a bag, or several, from the store! read more

There was a really long line of customers but the employees worked together to keep the line moving quickly. They have an interesting glass window where you can see employees freshly making the popcorn! I definitely recommend trying the Garett Mix with both their crispy caramel popcorn and cheddar flavor popcorn which is the absolute #1 crowd favorite! It works so well because it is the perfect combination of savory, salty, and sweet with some satisfying crunch and fulfilling your different sensory tastes that has perfectly balanced flavor! You can choose from different sized bags of the popcorn all the way up to large gift popcorn tins! I also love their cheddar popcorn! Be prepared to have messy yellow fingers lol where you will have to wash your hands afterwards or get some wet wipes. It is a very messy snack but sooooooo worth it! They have a different flavors of popcorn such as plain, butter, cheesecorn, caramel crisp, and even seasonal flavors like hot cocoa caramel crisp. I was trying so hard not to eat all the popcorn on the way home! Have y'all heard of Cretor's popcorn? It also has a cheese and caramel mix, and I love the stuff way too much for my own health. As in: I buy a bag, plan to only eat a little, and before I know it half the bag is gone. Garrett reminds me almost exactly of Cretor's, the only difference is that Garrett's is a little bit warmer and thus feels just a little bit fresher. Otherwise, carbon copy! I had no issues with the staff. I found the service was speedy and polite. Now, I'm going to be honest with you all. I was about ready to award three stars. Garrett's does their shtick well, but with the essentially identical Creetor's, there is a cheaper option readily available. Save for three things (in no particular order) 1. Garrett's *is* a Chicago institution, as far as I understand. That's worth something. 2. You can customize the ratio of cheese to caramel to your liking, unlike the bagged stuff which is roughly 50/50. 3. If you're someone who can pick up on the freshness (I hang my head and admit I cannot - at least without a side-by-side), you will appreciate Garrett's. Thus, while Garrett's is not mind blowing, they do their thing well in delivering a fresh, sweet-salty-savory popcorn that is a shameless guilty pleasure. Never liked the popular Cheese and Caramel mix but LOVE the buttery Caramel with Pecans, whole pecans! I was expecting pecan flavored coating. Employees need a better attitude. Literally in the Broadway district, next to the Nederlander Theater, I wasn't greeted and two ladies were annoyed by my first time buyer questions. You walk yup and the staff puts whatever you want in a bag to go. To be honest, they don;t have a huge variety here, just a few types. It was good, but if I didn't feel it was anything to go wild over. ...it certainly wasn't bad. We grabbed a bit of popcorn and took it with us. we ate some on the walk and some later as well. First time I have been disappointed with Garrett's Popcorn. A friend sends me a tin for Christmas and this year it was the three flavors (cheese, caramel, buttery). The buttery flavor was so unbelievably salty. I don't mind salt on popcorn but this was almost inedible. There was also a surprising increase in the number of hills and unpopped corn that it was not enjoyable. I had mixed the three flavors together thinking what could be wrong with that? The kernels were small and seemed stale, I asked for a three way assortment but it came about 50% cheese, 30% buttered ( my favorite) and 20% Carmel. We walked in during a mini rush and the staff seemed a bit all over the place. I will say, the gentleman behind the counter had a much better attitude than the other store we walked into. He was friendly and patient. The gal behind the display case who was packing the orders was frazzled. She was getting orders mixed up, packing things incorrectly and the gentleman had to jump in and help her. They were packing my order and my cousin's order out of order so they were mixing our two separate orders up. I tried to step in and help them out but was told they knew what they were doing and got it...uhhhh okayyyyyy. But, when the "finished" order came to us, it was wrong. The gentleman was nice about it after I told him what exactly I was missing and what to take out of my order to add to my cousins. I appreciated his understanding demeanor after that. He could've gave me attitude but he said, "team work makes the dream work" and I really liked his mindset. It terms of cleanliness, I was a bit concerned. The gal packing orders was touching her face with gloves on and at one point the order receipts blew to the floor and she picked them up with the same gloves on and continued packing orders...uh not so sanitary. lol My advise?
