As one of the few (and oldest) camera shops in the area, Gary Camera has stood the test of time. They have on-site photo development, equipment repairs, and a well-stocked retail store (for its size and location). I've found the guys that work the counters to be friendly and insightful. While prints are a bit pricey; they run the usual professional premium you'd expect from a bonafide camera shop. While not necessarily for the point-and-shoot crowd with their $100 HP digicams (no offense to those of you out there), Gary Camera should be a stop for those in the NW IN region interested in stepping their photography up a notch. read more

My review of this store is based on my online experience with this company. I live in California and I decided to buy my Canon 70-200 2.8is ii from Gary Camera after seeing some of their online listings through ebay and then checking out their website. This store, hands down, has some of the best prices on digital equipment. On top of their great prices, their customer service was excellent. I initially emailed them and got prompt responses and was informed of their current inventory status and when they expect to get another shipment of the lens I wanted. They gave me the option of "first dibs" on the lens when it gets shipped from Canon. Well they lived up to their promise, once I got the emailed that they will have on shipped to them in a few days I put my order in. I talked to Mark Blane and he was very informative and upfront about the products they sell, and he didn't try to sell me on expensive accessories to compensate for their great prices. Fantastic service!! Mark is very knowledgable, informative and helpful. I talked to him on the phone before putting in the order on Monday afternoon, and received it the next day at noon. I had been lookin to upgrade my Canon 20D for some time now and the announcement of the 60D really got my attention. It has all the features I was looking for. Gary Camera had THE best price. While their business has a long history, their website was fairly new and I was apparently one of the first to place an order through it. Recognizing that computer based apps always have glitches they promptly followed up my web based order with a phone call to confirm my order. They solicited my opinion about my experience with the website. Their concern that the website be user friendly definitely reflects the service philosophy of their business. It was shipped that same day. There was obvious care in packing making certain that it was protected on ALL sides. I don't know how many times I've received items from other vendors who place items in the bottom of the shipping box failing to protect that side. Why do people think that the bottom cannot get damaged? The camera was in its ori mfg box and was complete with its USA warranty! Gary Camera added a nice touch with a hand written invoice. Oh yeah, the camera has functioned flawlessly, but then it IS a Canon. My only regret would be that I probably will never have a chance to visit their store. I have bought all my cameras from Gary Camera. I just took the leap and bought my first DSLR the Nikon D5100. The people at this store Rock! They allowed me to take the cameras outside to try the differnt features and test out the speed. They put SD cards in them so they would work just like when I would take it home. Best Buy, Target, and HHGregg will not do any of this, assuming you can even find someone there. Theyshowed me how to use it, set it up and formated my new cards. They even printed test photos from the camera. All this plus so much more for the same price as the big waste stores. read more

For being in the business for such a long time, these people seem to lack basic knowledge about their product. The employees(daughter of the owner?) are rude, belligerent and ignorant, the owner is evasive and lacking basic communication skills and their prices are through the roof! Used cameras are 5 times what you can find on eBay, twice as much as Amazon, and no better than either for guarantees! Don't bother shopping here! read more

For over 30 years I have used Minolta/Konica/Sony cameras and lenses exclusively. In late December, after reading so many reviews that my eyes were crossed, I decided to take the plunge and change over to a Nikon. I chose the Nikon D7000. Then I couldn't find one, until I ran across the nice folks at Gary Camera. First I spoke with Travis and then he gave me over to his dad Mark for more in depth information. I was determined to avoid a grey market product because I wanted factory support from Nikon. Mark assured me I was buying a Nikon USA model and that they had it in stock. Mark went over every single aspect of the sale in detail from payment to shipping in incredible detail to make sure that I received my camera as soon as possible. Then he helped me decide which lens to start with and I went with the 24-120mm zoom. Neither Mark or Travis ever made me feel like they were trying to make me hurry with my decisions. I recently purchased a Nikon D7000 for a wedding from Gary Camera. I ordered it through their ebay listing and contacted the company before they shipped to make sure they would ship ASAP. I needed the camera in time for a wedding. They did a fantastic job. Let me start by saying they emailed me back within a few hours-- and if I recall correctly it was on a Sunday when they were closed. They shipped the camera right away to me. It was brand new, still in the box and sealed. The camera works great, their customer service was excellent. I was shocked they had the D7000 when everyone else is out of stock!
