Our son had been a patient at this practice for several years and we'd always been satisfied with the service and treatment, however our most recent experience has caused us to find a different practice. The issue was with the front office staff and one member in particular who either did not understand how to correctly process our insurance or was just incompetent and rude. We recently changed insurance companies, and she was unable to verify our coverage. Rather than calling to discuss and get it all figured out, she waited until my wife and son were at the office for a follow up appointment and had my wife standing at the front desk for 20+ minutes while she claimed that we didn't have valid insurance. This was needlessly embarrassing for my wife and son when a simple phone call ahead of time could have resolved the questions. Ultimately, I returned to the office and had a discussion with Dr. Kramer, who apologized for the whole situation, but at no time did the woman working the front desk apologize. I guess at the end of the day, losing one patient isn't a big deal for them, but we will not be returning to the practice and would urge others, especially those with military affiliation to avoid since the front office clearly does not understand how military retiree insurance works. Really love Dr Kramer but can't get past his rude front desk staff that told me I did not have insurance (I do) and had me standing there for 20 mins with my son. We've been using both offices for years for ourselves and our son. Clearly the front desk staff has made a mistake but won't fix it so we left without treatment. My 7-year-old unfortunately got a cavity in a molar that needed to be filled. She was very fearful of going for the procedure (even checkups are tough for her). I decided to try this office. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Sara Bunin!!! She is AMAZING!!! At our pre-visit, she built rapport with my little girl and somehow got her to be happy about being there and even looking forward to going back for the procedure. At the procedure, she told my daughter fun little stories about what she was doing, which was truly endearing to see, especially since the quality of medical service was also top notch. She gave me precise instructions on how to care for her right afterwards, so I felt comfortable knowing what to expect, etc. Even though we have several high-rated pediatric dentists closer to home, I will be choosing this office! read more

i went here as a kid and now as an adult i realize how shitty my expraince was. He gets pissy if you misunderstand or are in pain. I was a kid, this is a childrens doctor, and apperantly i bit him (not on purpose obviously) and he held it agaisnt me the entire time i saw him. I clearly remember a time getring my first cavity filled and he didnt numb me enough and i was in pain and he told me to stop complaining what would his other paintents think. I'd hope the parents would take their kids and run for the hills. I would only reccomend this place if you want to scar your children for life about the dentist. to this day i do not complain about pain and i shake in place as i get work done. avoid! avoid! avoid! i dont care how charming or personable he seems to you, you are not your children! read more

My 8 yr old child needed two baby teeth extracted. I was very nervous because when I was a young adult, I didn't have good dentist experiences. Before the procedure, Dr. Kramer returned my call to explain the process. He was very patient and calm throughout the procedure. It only took about 5-10 minutes. After the procedure, Dr. Kramer called in the evening to make sure my child was okay. We always have outstanding, professional service, from front office staff to Dr. Kramer and Dr. Bunin. Wow! I was reading the reviews, and had to share my experience. My son has been a patient of Dr. Kramer since he was 2 years old, so well over 20 years. We were referred by another local dentist. It started with cavities and rotten teeth. However, looking at my son's teeth now, you would never know. We have never had a bad experience. Friendly staff from the front office to the back where the dental procedures are performed. With each visit, Dr. Kramer always explained the dental plan, and my son's progress. And, the experience has been well with Dr. Bunin too. With each visit we came from Maryland to Virginia. And, most of the dental expenses have been paid out of pocket. So, when you are spending plenty of money, and driving one hour each way, you are not going to accept mediocre service, especially when you are visiting every year and at a minimum of twice a year. read more

Speaking from my own experiences at Dr. Kramer's office 8 years ago when I was scheduled to have one tooth removed in a simple procedure: I remember that he was a very cold man that didn't show very much compassion or understanding for anxious children. I remember that they took me back before the sedative had taken effect. At least they let my mother come with me. After that all I remember was sitting in a chair and everything got really blurry and voiced in the room sounded like rushing water. My mother says that he was not very patient with me because I was really anxious. He was supposed to take one tooth out but he decided that another tooth had to come out as well but didn't communicate that he was doing it. dont practice good hygiene at all.. doesnt wash hands every after patient though they use gloves they still have to wash hands every after patient contact. With their gloved hands they touch their pants, computer mouse , chair or wherever.. i dont think they clean the computer mouse everytime theyre done with one pt.. after touching all those things they put it inside my kids' mouth.. gross!! GROSS!! can someone teach them good hygiene? if there's a 0 rate , i will give then that score. i hope they improve on that aspect.they are going to get their patients sick! read more

Dr.Bunin visits our preschool every year and does a fantastic job of educating children not only about dental care but healthy bodies. She is excellent with children and I imagine equally caring with her patients. read more

I'm being generous with two stars - the stars are for the staff, not Dr. Kramer. The staff are all helpful, efficient, friendly, etc. But Dr. Kramer himself? I've given him three tries with my kids and that's probably 2 tries too many. If you have children who have a fear of the dentist, this is NOT THE DENTIST FOR YOU. He's rushed. He has no empathy. He flatly ignores a child's screams of pain. He takes no time to explain what he is doing. I'm a pretty tough cookie when it comes to my kids and the normal pains of childhood - I don't coddle them, I don't overreact to their complaints of pain. But when all my kids have the same experience with a dentist - uniformly awful, incredibly painful, and rude - well, I'm done with that dentist. It's really sad - we were referred to Dr. Kramer by another doctor who assured us that Dr. Kramer was an 'expert' in helping kids with anxieties about the dentist. The OPPOSITE is true - he has made all their fears about 10 times worse. Never, ever going back to him again. read more

We are a military family with three children, ages 8-16 and have moved every year or two for the past ten years, thus we have had plenty of experience with pediatric and special needs dentistry across the country! We found Drs. Kramer and Bunin last year upon moving to the area and could not be more pleased. On our first visit, Dr. Kramer welcomed us into his private office to meet each of our children and get further information from parents - great consultation! One of our children has no health/dental issues and his cleanings for the past year have been consistent and easy. One of our children has a chronic illness requiring a little TLC and Dr. Bunin has served her extremely well in a sensitive and caring manner. One of our children is autistic, epileptic, and has sensory issues. Dr. Kramer has been incredibly empathetic, understanding, and gentle with our youngest; and when there were some issues to deal with, Dr. Kramer communicated with both our child and with me what he was seeing, what the treatment choices were, time needed, ways to make the procedure more comfortable for our little one, and cost before we decided what path to take. The procedure itself went smoothly, and with maximum care and minimum trauma to our child. The front office staff is always welcoming, whether on phone or in person - always friendly smiles to share and care in their mission! The hygienists are also wonderful, putting patients at ease and making them feel comfortable. Very thankful to have found this practice! read more

These moms are simply wrong! I have three sons and have been taking then to Dr. Kramer for at least seven years. My youngest has severe autism and is afraid of anything unfamiliar, especially something of a medical nature. Dr. Kramer is excellent at working with an anxious child -- or an anxious mother, for that matter. He speaks very matter-of-factly to my son with a very calm voice. He tells my son what is going to happen and speaks to him while he is working, which is also calming to my son. He treats children with the respect they deserve to be treated with. I don't know what's with these last two reviews, perhaps they want the sugar-coated, pleading method for their kids but it isn't going to do their kids any favors. Also, he is the best children's dentist around -- having saved us from procedures we really didn't need. read more

I have been taking both of my daughters to see Dr Kramer since my oldest was 3 (since 2004). She's now 16. My youngest has never seen anyone except Dr. Kramer or Dr. Bunin. The practice has been exceptional in every regard. Drs. Kramer and Bunin are friendly, setting me and my daughters at ease at every appointment. They explain things clearly so I always know what's going on with their dental health. They work with my insurance plans to make sure I get the most benefit without having to pay more out of pocket. For example, at one time, I learned that only 1 fluoride treatment would be covered per year, so at my request they reduced it to once per year per girl. However, when my benefit changed, they made sure the girls got the second treatment again. Neither of my girls has ever had a cavity. They are 10 and 16 now. The office bills me appropriately at check out. Once I received a check from Dr. Kramer for an overpayment that I'm sure I would have never known about. Thirteen years as a customer with two daughters who see the dentist twice per year and I can't think of anything to complain about. That's pretty amazing. When we were new patients, they welcomed my daughter by name on a white board in the reception area. The staff is cordial. Reminders are sent and phone calls made for upcoming appointments. At each appointment, the girls get stickers and little kids can pick a prize from the prize box. We have always been seen promptly. Five stars for this practice! read more

I brought my children here based on the great reviews. The front desk staff is very nice and making an appointment was very simple. On the first visit for a cleaning everything was ok. Dr. Bunin was nice however she had a bit of an aggressive behavior towards the technician assisting her. On the second visit (6 months later), I was told my 7 yr old needed some fillings. After the cleaning, Dr. Bunin "counseled" me on their procedure for fillings which required my son to have an oral sedative. I was then told it would require 2 visits with medication for both visits (personal cost as insurance does not cover sedation). I stated I was not comfortable with medication being given for a filling and was told "this is our standard protocol". I can't explain it, but I had a feeling in my gut NOT to have the treatment done. I had a second opinion by another local dentist who stated medication was NOT necessary and was only used for the convenience of the dentist so they don't have to deal with squirmy kids. We had the 3 fillings plus sealants completed at the new dentist, in 1 appointment (40 mins) and only laughing gas. I would NOT recommend Dr Bunin to anyone especially if you need fillings or any other treatment. Parents, listen to your gut don't just go off a "doctors" recommendation. Also, Dr.Bunin did NOT want to give me copies of my children's record, which is required by LAW! I had to fight to get copies, they only want to give me a piece of paper saying when the last cleaning was and overall hygiene. I have reported them to our insurance company as this is completely unacceptable! read more

Dr. Kramer is not an warm fuzzy dentist. We've been going to him for over 5 years and I've had some issues at time with his chair-side manner where he was not kind when my kids were scared about getting something done. Didn't even address what they were scared about and rushed into doing the work. This is definately an issue for younger children when they are new to going to the dentist or if your child has to have a procedure other than routine cleaning. He does not have great empathy with his young patients. If you don't mind being a mother bear, then this may be ok with you. I rate Dr. Kramer's office staff a 5. They are friendly, and the cleanings are through. The office hours are also good. He has at least one late night to 6:30 pm per week. Check his prices before you go if you don't have insurance-when we've had a uncovered procedure his prices seemed high. read more

I took my daughter to this practice off of the recommendation of our long time family dentist. She needed a cavity filled, her first one, and Dr. Kramer rushed her back and did not take the time to explain to her what was going to happen. I was able to be in the room, which I appreciated. However when I spoke comforting words to my daughter- saying she was doing a good job, etc. Dr. Kramer repeatedly "shushed" me and at one point told me that the words I was saying were only to make me feel better, they weren't helping my daughter. He did not show the compassion towards my daughter that I would have expected from a PEDIATRIC dentist. read more

Dr. Kramer has treated all three of my sons all of whom are adults now. I have nothing but high praise for Dr. Kramer, and his staff. He knows pediatric dentistry, and is well regarded in the dental community. We followed his commendations through the years, and had nothing but good dental health for the boys - thanks to his recommendations and care. If Dr. Kramer recommends it, you can be sure it's a wise idea. Because my sons are adults, must they use other dentists now; but I can tell you from years of experience with Dr. Kramer's office that he's a consummate expert in the field of pediatric dental care. Drs. Kramer and Bunin were recommended to me by a friend who is a dental hygienist who volunteers at the schools & county health department, and she was 100% on target! BEDSIDE MANNER 5 Star: Both doctors and staff work well with parents and kids - if you let them know about any special needs you or your child may have, they will work with you. One of my kids needs visual supports to go along with the verbal brushing instructions (auditory processing issues) - and Dr. Kramer and Bunin were excellent with a kid friendly tooth model, treasure chest toys as rewards for coming in, and both take the time to answer my questions and my child's. I have not had the experience of a bedside manner as expressed by another reviewer...Dr. Kramer is clear and concise, but he also gives my kids positive comments, high fives, and other positive vibes to make them feel welcome and part of his family practice (staff is A+++). Neither doctor speaks babytalk to the kids - they are age appropriate comments for children and parents, supportive, and flexible when you have a child with special needs, anxiety about dentists/blood, etc. It's possible he had a bad day (like we all do) or his clear style rubbed the other person the wrong way, but I've been there 10+ times with a good experience every time (even with kids who do not want to brush as they should!). I am 100% confident in both doctors giving me the truth, working with me if I can delay/wait and see on braces, and doing a good job (as recommended by another dental professional that I trust). When were were new, we spent 1:1 time with Dr. Kramer in his office. While small, I was never uncomfortable and he answered all of my questions and my children's. He obviously has placed all of the space into his stations for patients, dental hygenists, and a play gym in the waiting area which is perfect for little children. He also has kid-friendly movies and games in the lobby. My kids never want to leave when we go there!!!! ORTHODONTICS: After getting estimates from 2 different dentists for orthodontic services (and pinball machines) that cost more than my car for 2 kids, I found Dr. Kramer's estimates very reasonable and match national average costs. We will be going with him when we decide to do it. LOCATION: I never realized there were offices behind the McDonalds in Burke on Burke Center Parkway until we made the appointment. It's also need an oil lube store, parts store, and other small businesses. Parking is ample, albeit a little odd shaped. OVERALL: I recommend them highly! I've been going to Dr. Kramer since I was five years old in 1998. Yes, I'm 24 and still going to my pediatric dentist. I just can't imagine going to anyone else. Dr. Kramer, and now Dr. Bunin, are both incredible dentists, as well as wonderful human beings. I had a lot of work done on my teeth when I was little, lots of teeth pulled out of my little mouth and many cavities filled, and I never remember it being uncomfortable. Dr. Kramer has always been kind and personable, never treating me like a grown up when I was a little or treating me like a child as I have grown up. He just knows how to treat people kindly and with respect. Both he and Dr. Bunin always welcome me personally, and the hygienists and staff do the same. They remember not just my name, but my family, where I am in life, and what I have done. It's a little piece of family and home. At the dentists office. Seriously, with all the hell my teeth have put me through I should hate the dentist office. But I don't. I am always happy and comfortable when my six month visit comes around. I could just go on and on. My teeth are beautiful and healthy, much due to the careful care and advice of everyone at Dr. Kramer's office. I look forward to taking my own kids someday :) read more

All of my younger cousins went to Dr Kramer for years and so when we moved to the area I made sure to take my two children as well. They love Dr. Kramer and he has been excellent. I have to say that Dr.Kramer is the BEST!!! I went to him when I was a child and loved him, and now that I am a mother I take my oldest child and will with my second as soon as he is old enough to see a dentist. His staff is very nice and so is he. I see one review where they say he isnt a warm and fuzzy dentist. Well that bothers me. He is great with the children. My son just had to get a cavity filled and Dr.Kramer was very kind, helpful and even called that night to make sure he was doing ok. I say his chair side manner is great! The new dentist, Dr. Bunin is very nice as well. .I love this practice and would recommend him to anyone. He is very honest and will not rip you off. If you need a procedure done than he will let you know, otherwise he wont say something needs to be done that doesnt like some dentists. I can go on and on about how great he is. read more
