I arrived a bit late because of traffic and he was very accommodating. I felt at easy when he explained his photography process and walked me thorough posing. I liked the various backgrounds that he had in his studio. Pricing was reasonable and my photos arrived in the time he quoted when I took pictures. His skill with creating beautiful pictures is amazing. I felt beautiful when I saw my pictures both retouched up and untouched. I saw some of his engagement and wedding photo portfolio. The photos were able to tell a story without any words. I plan to go back for family photos.

He was very easy to talk to, explained things very well, and had an opening. I visited him in his Troy studio to confirm I made the right decision in choosing him to shoot our engagement portraits and I was not disappointed. Michael's studio in Troy is comfortable, quirky, and fun. Located in an old church, he has a beautiful display of his work for his clients to peruse. Being an Indian bride whose family really wanted a photographer with experience with our culture, I practically drooled over the huge print of the Indian couple right outside his studio door. We discussed locations and decided on a few. He was relaxed with the payment process and was always available for me to call and email (maybe more than he would have liked, what can I say? I'm a nervous bride). We arrived yesterday to take our portraits not sure what to expect. For some reason, I thought I would be extremely comfortable with the process. Instead of being some starlet in front of the camera, I froze. I was very stiff and so was my fiance in several photographs but Michael eased us into it and asked us to just behave together as we normally would. I was nervous about how I looked but he reassured me that everything would turn out great. By the time we got to our second location, we were much more relaxed and calm and when I saw the sneak preview of our photographs today, we looked naturally blissful. The whole experience was amazing and easy. I am a control freak but I was happy to let go of control with Michael because from the beginning of our appointment to the end of our session, there was trust there between the three of us. I can't wait to see our engagement portraits and hope to use him as our wedding photographer (fingers crossed).

He first officiated at our…read moredaughter's wedding in Rochester, MI., five years ago and then at our son's wedding four years ago because we were all so pleased with his services. We had numerous compliments on both wedding ceremonies. An hour after I talked with him initially (because our children were out of state), he had e-mailed the general vows that he uses with the explanation that he is pleased to include any readings or ceremonies that the bride and groom desire. (Our children both chose a sand ceremony.) His paperwork included that he did not work with wedding coordinators (or aunts or others who try and direct the wedding ceremony). Our family had no problem with this. Both sets of the brides and grooms met with Rev. O'Grady prior to the wedding rehearsal to discuss the ceremonies and their preferences. He came to the wedding rehearsal totally prepared and his wife assisted him at both the rehearsal and ceremony by getting the wedding party lined up and started off on the correcct foot. She explained to the women how to hold the bouquets for pretty pictures and was wonderful. . Both Rev. O'Grady and his wife were extremely gracious and patient with everyone including the 3 little flower girls and ring bearer at our son's wedding. The reason that I came across this negative review was because I was googling his name to obtain his phone number .Our niece is interested in contacting him to officiate at her wedding and asked me for his phone number.

She's extremely helpful and very sweet. All of our Bridal Party loved him, too. They have been in weddings before, but said ours was very organized. He recommended having someone tape the ceremony, if nothing else, and I'm so glad we did. It's a fabulous video and an instant reminder of our beautiful day! It got a little windy the day of; he helped me when I got caught in my veil... I made light of it, and everyone laughed it off! DH and I both wrote a little commitment speech to each other (kind of like your own vows) and it was great. If you have the opportunity to do that, do it. I think that's what MADE our ceremony.

My oldest child is 16 and I dragged her to every portrait studio under the sun and was always disappointed with the photos: they looked like school pictures each and every time. Then we met Marla through one of her children. We met her at a park for photos of our three children and I have never witnessed someone so at ease with her clients, surroundings, and camera. When we met her in her studio to review the photos she had taken, we had such a hard time choosing which pictures to order: they were all beautiful and captured our children's personalities perfectly. We ordered more photos than we expected going in, but it was just so difficult to decide. She is always so gracious with sending us a few extra prints too, which says something about her customer service. I get the feeling that she looks at all of her clients as family members and gives her best every time. We had her take photos of the entire family a few years later and she continues to capture our children perfectly in photos. She is very flexible and accomodating with her time and camera. I have photos from both sessions hanging in a few rooms in our home and countless friends and acquaintances have remarked on the beautiful photos on our walls. These are all the work of Marla. Cannot recommend him. We did not have a good experience. He did not return phone calls, was two…read moreweeks late in giving us our photos, and did not deliver what we'd discussed. We used Gordon over the Christmas holiday week for photos of our 6-month old daughter and our family. The sitting went fine. It's kind of hard to get our daughter to smile when there's a lot going on and we did get a few smile shots, so we were happy in that department. We met with Gordon one week later to look at the photos and choose which ones we wanted. We also asked about digital copies. It was not including in any of his standard packages but he said he would give us a copies of the photos we were also going to get printed. There were also a couple photos we wanted cropped a little. He said it would be two weeks. Two weeks came and went. I called and my mother called. On the fourth attempt, my mother basically threatened to show up on his doorstep. He called back with a time/date to pick up the photos, two weeks later than originally discussed. No apology. No explanation. We'd wanted digital copies. We've worked with a range of photographers in the past and we've always gotten digital copies. In most cases, we've happily paid extra for them. We get this is how photographers make their money. Gordon provided us very low-res copies of the photos and refused to provide us with better quality electronic copies. To make matters worse, when we got the photos (my mother picked them up and I saw them later), I realized he did not crop one of the photos like I'd asked. So we paid $25 for a 5x7 photo that's pretty much unusable. And of course, he won't answer or return our phone calls. What was supposed to be the first professional photo session with our daughter turned out to be a stressful and expensive experience. I will never use O'Brien photography and I suggest you don't as well.
