Wish I would have read these reviews and seen Dr S's Yelp rating before wasting time in his office. I didn't get to choose a specific podiatrist; he was a referral from my plan. Since meeting with Dr. S. I've done some research cross-checking and have found a DPM in my plan that I'm excited about seeing. Fingers crossed my HMO gives the green light. The problem with Dr. S.: All seemed well during the visit except for one rude and slightly embarrassing remark he made which I intentionally decided to ignore (nobody's perfect). But the next day when I tried to access their secure messaging portal I encountered technical issues that couldn't be resolved. Portals like the one his office uses are supposed to have tech support for patients. This one doesn't. And I guess the doctor just got frustrated with my asking for assistance from his office staff that he simply abandoned me. He wouldn't let me arrange a quick Zoom call with a member of his staff and portal rep to show them the technical problem. It would have likely been an easy fix. All I needed was a way to message him securely: each instance he gets caught communicating personal health info unsecurely, he risks being fined thousands of dollars. I don't know if he has deep control issues and therefore doesn't have faith in his office staff to get the job done, or if he just has a short fuse, but whatever is going on it's not healthy. My advice is to really take your time to find a DPM who behaves professionally. He or she will be worth their weight in gold. read more

I was referred to Dr. Scheinin for my gout and bunions. My initial contact with him was amazing. He treated my gout and worked with my physician to make sure I managed the cause of my gout. He then removed the bunion that was causing all the pain in the first place. I have been pain free for a long time. Dr. Scheinin just seems to know exactly what to do. He is very thorough and complete in everything he does. He takes time to explain and answer any questions that come up. The recovery after surgery was fast and I have returned to my active lifestyle pain free, which is a blessing for me. His staff is great too. I went to Dr. Scheming to begin treatment of the plantar fasciitis in my left foot. He did x rays, ultra sound, and a good exam of my foot. He recommended I purchase a different pair of shoes, particularly New Balances or Asics. He said he can't recommend a specific type but just any kind of new balances or Asics should work as long as they are comfortable to me. I bought two pairs of new balances and they seemed very comfortable. I showed one pair to the Dr. and he said they look good and they will work. He always recommended that I get custom orthotics, but his office charges $600 for them and insurance doesn't cover that so I decided to go somewhere else that specializes in them and they only charged $430.00. I thought that after a while I would start feeling better with the new orthotics, but seemed like nothing changed and I was doing all the stretching, icing etc.. that Dr. scheinin Recommended, for about 3 months now. I finally decided to see another doctor, after also being annoyed with other things about Dr. Scheinin. I'm so happy I did because the new doctor gave me a specific list of the types and models of shoesthat I should have and referred me to a little mom and pop shoe store who spent about an hour with me trying to get the perfect ones. according to the new doctor, the new balances that I had bought, and Dr. Scheinin approved, were one of the worst ones i could ever buy for my feet because they we not stable at all. You could literally bend them in half and to the side which is horrible for people with plantar fasciitis! So I paid out more money for this other pair of shoes that the new doctor recommended and with in a few days I seriously felt 50% better than before! I couldn't believe it! It took me so long to get to this point and if Dr. Scheinin would have told me that I needed a shoe that didn't bend or given me a specific list of shoes I should get, it would have saved me lots of pain and money. The other thing I didn't like about his appointments, was I could hardly get a word in edge wise! I had to interrupt him from telling me all the same things he already told me before, just so I could get a question answered. read more

On July 12th, Dr. Scheinin preformed surgical repair of my left foot. After the surgery, I was well taken care of by him and his staff, there was even a follow up call have been made to me on the following day by the doctor to see how things were going post-op. He is a very caring and compassionate man and very communicative and helpful. It is now 8 weeks after the surgery. I feel that I am on the road to recovery. I think I've received the best care possible. I could contact my doctor via phone at anytime when I have a question. I highly recommend Dr. Scheinin to anybody who may need foot or ankle surgery. read more

Dr. Scheinin and staff are exceptional. We have been patients for over ten years and have been extremely happy. Dr. Scheinin has treated our family members for minor issues and has also performed surgeries. He performed surgery on my husbands ankle to repair a torn ligament and daughters fractured toe. Went to Dr Scheinin with heel pain that I thought was maybe plantar fasciitis. He seemed very engaged on 1st visit and after X-ray and ultrasound thought it could be a stress fracture instead. He had me wear a walking boot and/or use my knee scooter for a couple of weeks and told me to stay completely off it. I asked if I should test it out before coming back and he said "No he had ways of testing". I mentioned that the inside of my ankle was also swollen and sore and he said there was nothing there in that area like ligaments or tendons and was probably just a secondary issue - maybe some water trapped in there. When I came back in 2 weeks the receptionist couldn't find my appointment listed even though I had a hand written appt. card from them with the correct day/time but said he would see me anyway. When he came in he asked how it was and I said I wasn't sure since I had stayed completely off it like he asked and he impatiently said "Well press on it and see!" I pressed on it and said it feels pretty tender and he again gave an impatient reply "Well that's just tender, not hurt like before so it must be better!" I was stunned at this method of "assessment" and his attitude and didn't know what to say. I again mentioned the swelling and tenderness on the inside of my ankle as well and he started suggesting that this was probably something that was there all along and if I had a picture of it before it would probably show that. Then he started suggesting maybe arthritis or an auto-immune disease like lupus. He kept saying on both visits that he didn't think an MRI should be done but I couldn't understand why. At the end of the visit he wanted me to continue wearing the walking boot and when I told him it was rubbing on my sore ankle he again got impatient and said there was no reason for that since I was not overweight and it should fit fine and told me to just put a pad in it. After this I decided not to go back to him and found another doctor. When I got an MRI there the diagnosis was Posterior Tibial Tendonitis and Tenosynovitis. This is the tendon that runs from your lower calf, under the inside ankle bone and attaches to the heel and Tenosynovitis is a swelling of the sheath the tendon runs through in that part of the ankle. Thus explaining both my heel and ankle pain and swelling. So there is indeed a tendon there and, if he would have listened to me it should have pretty much told him what the problem was with both of those areas involved. read more

I have spent the last four years with foot pain after having tried two other doctors who seemed baffled by a bone that "shouldn't be there". I was told it would hurt but I just had to live with it, that it couldn't be fixed and I was not causing any damage anyway. So I continued running but always with pain that limited me from doing more or better, and always dreading having to even walk downhill. But it also hurt just walking out of my room in the mornings, so I couldn't help complaining about it to my regular doctor and she referred me to Dr. Scheinin. First good sign was that he didn't look baffled by my x-rays. In fact, he said he knew how to treat it and even fix it. He didn't push me into surgery, though. We tried orthodics and a prescribed ointment for the pain, but I soon decided I needed a permanent solution if one was available. So I had the surgery, and although I am still healing, I am giving the five stars for these reasons: 1. He did not dismiss the pain I was in. Other doctors made me feel like I was whining. Now I know I was badly damaging a tendon, and can't believe how much I put up with for so long. 2. Quick diagnosis and knowledgeable of my condition 3. I'd never had surgery or even a bad injury, so I required some hand holding at times. I worried a lot and asked A LOT of questions. He took his time explaining everything. Jen and Gisselle in his office get a lot of credit for this part as well. 4. I have done everything he told me to as perfectly as I can, and I am hitting every milestone in recovery he said I would. It feels tight but I am quickly gaining flexibility and strength. read more

Exceptional professionalism by Dr. Scheinin and staff. He is extremely knowledgeable and attentive. My husband and daughter have seen him for sport related injuries that required surgery. Both have been able to return to their very active lifestyles without any problems. I have personally seen him for minor foot problems and have been very happy with the results. I went to Dr. Scheinin for surgical treatment of a painful bunion condition. He has been absolutely fantastic. My surgery went very smoothly and I'm extremely pleased with the result. Unhappy with results of operation as it caused new issue due to tendom being pulled too tightly and now hammertoe and futher surgery needed. great if you just need orthodics or cortisone shots read more

I had ingrown toe nails done with Dr Scheinin, twice in last couple years. He used chemical burn, said it'll heal in 4-6 weeks. Took 3 months to heal. Lost toe nails both times. Now they are ingrown again. My mom had foot surgery with him to remove the old implant and put new one back in. He cut the blood vessel during surgery. Huge clot formed under skin. Took him 2 weeks to make the decision to remove the clot. By that time the skin was all black, just died. Over the next 5 months he cut off all that dead skin, exposed the bone, did not even tell us about that. The other doctor we went to get second opinion pointed out - hey, you have bone exposed. By that time the bone was infected. Took my mom 35 days of IV antibiotics to get rid of it. And another surgery with another podiatrist to remove the implant and cut parts of the bone that got infected. Sure, it's an accident to cut the blood vessel. But Dr Scheinin is unable to make a timely and correct decision in critical situation. He would not take any blame for it. In fact, he put a spin on it that it was all our fault. There are lots of good podiatrists out there that use modern techniques in healing and treating wounds. Do your research. read more

I will update my review after my follow up appt. i saw dr scheimin on monday morning. my appt was at 930am. I showed up at 9;22am and waited for about 5 mins until the receptionist acknowledged me and told me i had to see the next the receptionist who was sitting next to her. the second saw me when i first walked in. she could have address or greeted me. that was very rude. or atleast put up a sign stating that dr scheinin pls go to next receptionist. after paperwork i got checked in around 940am. the dr didnt show up until 10:15. he tells me that he is only 10 mins late. this dr talks a lot and dont listen to you at all. i told him that recently i cannot wear my old shoes and new shoes ( that fit perfect) without my ankle is so much pain. so i have been in sandals. he took xrays and told me to come back in two weeks. wtf i just told him that i cannot wear shoes so why to weeks. oh!!!!!! he talked so much that i didnt leave until 11:15. then he express my appt was making him late to the others so i shouldnt complain about him being late. wtf!!!! a called a few days later to express why my appt is still two weeks when i am in pain. does it take that long to review xrays? again the rude receptionist told me that he has a lot of patients and i am not the only one. really ? she had to go there. so i need to keep limping in sandals until dr has a moment to review the xrays read more

We had an excellent experience with Dr Scheinin and his staff. My son broke multiple bones in his foot late on a Friday night. Monday AM, I called as the office opened and they were able to squeeze us in at the end of the day. Even though it was late, Dr Scheinin spent a great deal of time with us explaining our options and what he thought the surgical plan should be. We were fortunate to get a second opinion with 49er orthopedic surgeon who confirmed surgery plan was the right one. Dr Scheinin even took the time to collaborate with that 2nd surgeon over the phone the night before the surgery. The surgical experience was excellent too-he wasn't rushed in the post surgery conversation and explained everything fully. He was very clear about setting realistic expectations about recovery timelines. The after care has been excellent and his office staff is friendly and compassionate-it was a great all round experience. read more
