The physical vet is amazing. Never order from their online pharmacy. I contacted them 4 days ago because my dog's medicine was marked delivered, but was not delivered here. They assured me that they had processed a replacement for my dog's medicine. 4 days ago and would update me with tracking. Well, I contact them back today.They have not created the replacement.They have promised and my dog is sitting here without medicine because they are liars.. always buy in person at the vet. Never ever use their online pharmacy. I have been going to this debt for 15 years. I never had a bad thing to say about this that, but their online pharmacy is a joke, and it's very clear they do not care about our animals. read more

I've been bringing my dogs here for years. Recently I feel like I'm being interrogated when I step through the door. IDK if it's a Gaston County thing or what, but I get the impression that they are definitely working with the police. The intrusive questions are ridiculous. From asking where I got my puppy to how many animals do you have. Just focus on the one I'm here for. What does where or who I got the dog from factor into checking her for worms? The first time I brought my dog, the staff was afraid of her. I had to explain that she's been trained from a young age and is definitely not aggressive. She's a GSD, so they have a bad rep, but I need a vet that's willing to work with each dog individually. If you're terrified of dogs, it's probably time you stopped working with them. I have had 2 dogs fixed there. The first one they said to call at a specific time to see if she was ready for pickup. I called, over 50 times, and the phone lines were down. I eventually just went to get her and was asked why I didn't call. When I mentioned that the phone lines were down they shrugged and said "Oh someone else said that too".. Seriously?? They do not give e-collars and they charge you separately for blood panels that should be required before performing that type of surgery. So the cost is more than double what they estimate. My girl also had an umbilical hernia fixed at the same time as her spay. I had to bring her back numerous times after because they missed a stitch when they were removing her stitches and she ended up needing antibiotics for an infection due to the missed stitch. When my boy was fixed I noticed the incision was very red and swollen. I was assured it was normal. A month later he developed an infection and had to be brought back. The vet casually said "Pretty weird that he got the infection now". I believe he had the infection the whole time but it didn't get bad until a month later. When I brought my girl in for her booster shots, they took her in the back and gave her her shots. IDK what they did to scare her but now she is terrified and starts shaking when we go there. She is the happiest most social thing you can image. For her to suddenly be terrified is unacceptable. Fast forward a couple month and they would not renew my monthly flea treatment without an annual check up. My dog is 2 and was in for shots literally a month before. So I had to bring her in again for a needless exam to line their pockets. They gave her the exam and were very upset when I refused to get her a full panel blood test or add any other extras they tried to force on us. She's allergic to fleas, so we literally just needed the Nexgard Rx renewed. They know this. It still took them 4 days to approve the Rx and then only did so when I sent a scathing email asking for a refund of the money I paid for the exam so I could take her to another vet who would approve the flea treatment. For context it's never taken them more than an hour before to approve the Rx on their website when asked to do so. The approval literally came less than 5 minutes after my scathing email was sent. I'm done. I believe in protecting my peace. They seemed nice at first, a little small town vets office in the city. But as you can see above, my level of tolerance for absurdities has been surpassed. Looking for a new reasonably priced Veterinarian who is not afraid of GSD's in or around Gaston County. Any recommendations would be appreciated! read more

Do not board your animals here. They do not get out of the cages. They care about the cats I will say but this is not a good vet whatsoever. The main vet. She does not care. She might act like she cares but she does not. She is rude and talks about guests after they leave all the time. The whole staff is impossible to deal with. If I could give 0 stars I would. Let me preface this review by saying we have been bringing our cats to the Carolina Cat Clinic for over 20 years. My first cat, my husband and I got together, was adopted from the Carolina Cat Clinic, so I don't make this review lightly or out of anger. It's been a couple months since our last visit there, so I've had time to cool down and get 2 more separate expert opinions. My cat had build up on his teeth so I wanted to go in and get a dental cleaning scheduled. Upon arriving, my daughter and I waited 45 minutes to even be seen in a room. After finally getting a room, a new vet whom I have never met before, comes whipping into the room, barely introducing himself and barely looking at me. Not a great first impression. He sees my cat is in to get assessed for a dental cleaning and begins to check his teeth. He tells me they may have to pull some teeth, at which I said, I didn't want to do that, I just want to get his teeth cleaned. He then proceeds to tell me that my cat has an autoimmune disorder and that his teeth will always be bad and he'll probably lose his teeth. Still, I said I just wanted to get a cleaning. THEN...as he's looking in my cat's mouth he tells me, "You know what we could do? While we have him here, we could just go ahead and pull ALL his teeth." In shock, because I just told him I didn't want ANY teeth pulled, I told him, no, I didn't want to do that. He then starts to lecture me by saying, that my cat's teeth were just going to get worse and we might as well pull them all now. So about this time, I'm having seconds thoughts about letting this person even near my cat, but it's gets worse. He tells me they have to do a blood panel before they can clean the teeth, but again, in a rude way. So against my better judgement and my internal warning bells going off, I let him proceed to draw the blood. His attempt on the first leg was bad. After poking around, he says he ripped the vein. So he goes to the other leg, and after digging around for a while, takes the needle out, doesn't look at me or talk to me, and says to his assistant, "Ill have to get someone else." He was not even able to draw blood. He leaves not saying a word to me. I pull my cat to me and tell the assistant my cat is stressed and has had enough for today. I was DONE!! She left, and I looked at my daughter and said we're never coming back here again. So, I took my cat to a another vet 2 weeks after, to get another opinion. This veterinarian spent over an HOUR with me, getting to know me and my cat. He said my cat's teeth were extremely healthy, and that in no way does my cat have an autoimmune disease, and NO teeth need to be pulled. He gave my cat a gentle dental cleaning while we were there because my cat is well behaved. Great vet! Flash forward to today, a couple months after that visit, I'm still not sure whether my cat needs a deep dental cleaning because his gums still look a little red in the back. So I go to another vet for a 3RD opinion. A very prominent vet clinic, which came highly rated. This clinic was also top notch!! I was brought into a room upon arrival and the staff was so sweet! The vet was very nice and knowledgeable. He has been at this same office for 35 years. He said, my cat's teeth were healthy and looked good, and stated because there is risk of death when putting an animal under anesthesia, he would not feel comfortable doing a dental cleaning, when my cat doesn't even really need it. It was a wonderful visit and I'm thankful for good veterinarians. To sum up, from my experience, the quality of care is just not at the Carolina Cat Clinic. They were wanting to pull healthy teeth, and didn't think twice about it. Did they just want my money? Maybe? After 2 more expert opinions, this confirmed that the Carolina Cat Clinic gave me a wrong diagnosis, saying my cat had an autoimmune disease, and then saying my cat needed to have all his teeth pulled. I fear that if I would have scheduled that appointment to get his teeth cleaned there, I would have picked up a toothless cat. read more

So I've heard nothing but good things about Gaston Veterinary Hospital and planned on them to be my forever vet just like my family has for years. But on yesterday that all changed, Sunday my 5 month old puppy got sick. She threw up once and refused to eat the rest of her food which is not her at all, so I monitored her throughout the night and decided I'd take her to the vet in the morning if she were still acting odd and not eating. Fast forward to Monday morning 8/16/21 I take her to the Vet and I tell the Dr. what's going on / what I thought may have happened along with a timeline of events. The Dr. then asked if my dog was vaccinated, it may be a case of parvovirus which she's claimed to see a rise in. At this point I'm slightly confused, there's been no fowl odor and she's only thrown up once. To top things off the Dr. had our chart and our vaccinations were done by them last month. This was my first sign we probably should've left. The Dr. blew off what I thought may have been wrong and asked to run a X-ray. After the X-ray and a few other things (temp check) she comes back and tells me that my dog has gas but she can't see a blockage but suggested I leave her for the day and they give her fluids and another X-ray around 2pm to see if the gas has let up. Around 2:30pm the Dr. calls me and suggests that they keep my dog overnight that she would suggest surgery in the am to see about reliving the gas and a possible blockage. At this point I told her absolutely NOT I'm coming to get my dog! I contacted another Dr. on the way, told him exactly what was going on and he literally told me over the phone what to do without even seeing my dog! $541 later and still no clue what was going on (From Dr Wilham) I took her home simply gave her some Pepcid to relieve the gas since they didn't give her anything and fed her. I monitored her throughout the night, fed her this morning and she's literally back to her perky self. At the end of the day I feel like Dr. Wilham was guessing and just trying to get more money rather than being rational and trying something simple (antibiotics I suggested at the beginning of the visit) but all is well, I'm a new dog owner and I just wanted to do the best thing for my dog, I'm only sharing this in hopes that no one else has to go through something like this. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion and trust your gut! read more

I had a puppy die due to parvovirus, we wanted to get her cremated and found this location. They were very sympathetic, and their service was faster than promised. A few months after our puppy passed, we tried again, and we have been bringing her to this location. The prices are cheap and the service is quick, and I don't feel like they try an pressure you into buying unnecessary stuff like the other vets do. One thing I will say, I noticed some people complain about their animal's record, this place is old school and they have paper records. Btw our new puppy is great, we miss our Misty who passed, but we wanted the joy of a dog in our family. read more

Had a very sick pup this morning, and GVH did not hesitate getting us in. Dr Pearman took such great care of Kitty, my English Bulldog. Kitty was stressed and was thrashing around and the doctor and tech stayed calm and calmed Kitty. The doctor did not immediately direct us to the most expensive option for care. She stared at a basic level of care and we were given clear instructions on what to watch for, and what should cause us a return trip. Happy to report Kitty is feeing better and it doesn't look like we need to go back in. I'll also add, the fee was VERY reasonable. Much less than I anticipated. read more

We had used Gaston Vet. for boarding for the first time due to our normal boarding place being booked up. Both of our dogs had issues when leaving. One dog attracted Kennel cough due to a virus from typically from non vaccinated dogs. Our other dog had feces all over her back legs, and had over 4 BM's as soon as she got home. They both were very thirsty as well. Our dogs are usually happy when we pick them up from boarding, this time they were not. Our dogs normally are eager to go with us, but not here lately, I can only assume it's because they think we are taking them back to Gaston Vet. Positive note, they are still alive. read more

We adopted a shelter pet and chose Gaston Vet from the list provided to do the spaying. Unfortunately 2 days later our 1.5 yr old new addition died. At the time, it was thought to possibly be parvovirus. While waiting on test results I called to tell Gaston Vet about the potential virus. There was no sympathy and no questions as to what happened. She said she'd pass on the message. Half an hour later I called again to relay that the test was negative and we had no idea what she died of. The first message had not even been sent back. Anyone who knows about this virus know it can spread like wildfire and precautions needs to be taken immediately. Again, there was no questions, nothing. I'd hoped the vet would at least call. It's been 4 days and nothing. I don't know if it was bc there was nothing to gain from a shelter dog or they're just that callous. But as I'm crying on the phone, all they said was "I'll put this with first message, have a good day." Seriously! "A good day!?" read more
