I visited this location a few months ago, for a consultation and information before having a procedure done. everyone from the receptionist and assistants to the doctors were extremely helpful talking me through everything answering questions. so I was able to completely understand exactly what was necessary to move forward. This place is straight fraudulent. I asked at the pre scheduled screening ($300 co-pay). I went into billing office and asked the lady the total cost and she ran my insurance. She replied after they ran my insurance and said "at the most $1650 after insurance". Got the bill and called back wondering why the cost was now $2400 and nothing xtra was done. What's the point in asking cost if they fraudulently can charge you whatever they want after colonoscopy. Thats $2700 total after co pay and service.. far cry from $1650. read more

I've had a number of positive experiences with individual providers. I understood waiting for a routine colonoscopy after the pandemic, the delay in scheduling, none of that caused me concern. Last year I was referred for a endoscope by my primary, met with a provider who was lovely and felt an endoscope was necessary due to my symptoms and test results to that point. She scheduled the procedure, while I was on the table about to be sedated I was rudely interrogated by the doctor doing the procedure. He repeatedly asked me why I was there, rapid fire questions about my medical history. I have complex medical and incomplete family history- I told him that and asked that he stop questioning me and do the procedure. I was not there by choice- no patient can schedule this - so many layers of doctors led me to this table. I finally stated "I am sorry that I am unable to answer your questions now, I have..." disclosed mental health issues and he still mansplained why I should not be there. He did the procedure and I followed up with a lovely provider upstairs. I since saw a notation in my chart of medication that was incorrect and led him to invalidate the need for me to have the procedure- the error on their part should not give a doctor the right to verbally abuse someone on their procedure table. This is not a trauma-informed facility and I will not return for services because of the way I was treated as a human. read more

It's hard to say whether or not the Physicians at this practice are good or great or just OK. I would have no way of knowing or judging their performance. I've had a number of colonoscopies and EGD's over the past 15 years or so. However, the administrative side of this practice is completely unprofessional and out of control. They don't communicate and you're supposed to be simply OK with not knowing what's up. When you get to see the medical side of this practice, all is good. The front office is problematic. The back office is problematic. And they are not friendly. I shake every time I hear from them. I know up front there's going to be a problem. read more

I received a diagnosis and needed a simple prescription. I was told that they first needed to prescribe a very expensive medication that was often declined first, versus simply requesting the generic version. This took an additional week to be declined while my painful condition persisted, until the generic was finally called in. When I asked why the generic form could not be immediately called in to the pharmacy, I was told "they just had to do it this way". The nurse who called to relay the diagnosis was the only contact I received. I did not receive any guidance or contact from the PA who ordered the test, despite this finally diagnosing a chronic condition. They provided no recommendations, and I found through online research that I needed to follow a specific diet to prevent recurrence. I've waited 45+ minutes on the phone while attempting to make an appointment, and do not understand why a procedure here takes 6+ months to schedule when centers throughout the rest of the state are able to easily schedule it. I will not be pursuing my procedure here for all of these reasons. read more

Impossible to get care here. Been patient for many years and am now looking elsewhere. Impossible to reach provider and staff is, for the most part, very rude. Appointments take months even if you are an established patient and having problems. All my provider did was throw more and more medication at me via email through his medical assistant without the courtesy of a phone call. read more

This practice is the most unprofessional medical practice I have ever been to. The Drs might be good , but you will never see or talk to them unless you have a procedure, and then you might get a glimpse of them before or after. The nurses whom are the only medical person you see , are ordering tests, diagnosing issues , prescribing medications etc. it is hard to know if any of this is being verified by a Dr. Some of these tests are unnecessary. The triage nurse, after giving me positive test results ( from a procedure that has a lot of false positives )was not able to answer questions about my condition. Some of recommendations were not consistent with the nurse that ordered the test. During my post op visit with the nurse that ordered the test , she contradicted the triage nurse with different recommendations. This nurse did not have my chart during this visit with her and asked me if I had been tested for things that she had previously tested . The intake medical tech was the only professional. She did have my chart on her computer and was able to change errors in my medications that were entered incorrectly. The nurse never looked at my chart before she saw me. In addition, the waiting room is not clean nor is the bathroom which is located right off of the waiting room. read more

This is the worst medical facility I have ever encountered in my life, Not only did I have to wait many months for an appointment, they did nothing and then told me I had to wait for months for an appointment at a place that would actually do something. Then they charged both my insurance company and me for doing nothing. They have now charged me THREE times under different account numbers and my insurance company FOUR times for doing nothing. This is approaching a year into this do-nothing approach. This place isn't GastoHealth. It is GastroHell. Go ANYWHERE else. read more

A year ago Dr. Mannem removed a polyp that had to be cut in two because it was so large. He wanted me to come back in a year for a follow-up. That was August of last year. I called in April and was unable to get an appointment until September 28. I was called this morning and told we would have to reschedule because "Kate" was not coming in today. The first appointment they have is December 5th and that is only for the pre-op. They will not even consider scheduling the procedure, despite the doctor's order. Absolutely the most unprofessional office I have ever had to deal with. I am going get an appointment at UVA and I am sure it will be well before December 5th. read more

I sent in paperwork for a scope in February. I finally called them in May, and actually got a response a few days later. Unfortunately the phone lines were down in Northern Albemarle when they called. I have called them six days in a row, had my PCP send in two referrals, one more urgent, and have still not heard squat. My brother passed from esophageal cancer when he was exactly the age I am now. I am currently enduring some nasty symptoms and am t a loss what to do. I have no confidence in their competency if they can't even return phone calls. read more

This practice must have so much business that they don't care about getting any new patients. My doctor phoned in a priority request asking them to call me and get me in as soon as possible. Since it was late in the day, I didn't expect a call until the next day. Unfortunately, they never called the next day despite the two urgent messages I left on their voicemail, nor did they call me the day after that. I gave up and made other arrangements on my own. Note to the physicians and other healthcare professionals at this practice. If your office staff is so disorganized that they are unable to return a phone call, or if they are so devoid of empathy or are so unprofessional that they choose to ignore the call of a potential new patient, you may want to consider bringing in some competent, caring, professional staff. read more

I have been a patient there for many years. Recently, I called with a minor GI emergency and was told the earliest appointment available was 8 weeks out! They told me to call my primary care doctor who, of course, does not specialize in GI issues. Sadly, they are the only game in town. Last year I went in for a routine colonoscopy. I'd had one years ago at the same practice BEFORE Gastro Health took over. What a sad decline! They prescribed the wrong prep, CVS wouldn't fill it, then when I called to get another prescription, the person on the phone asked ME what prep I wanted. Huh? I said whatever the doctor recommends. I got no other instructions, even the different pdf instructions on the website were not for what was prescribed to me. So I followed the instructions that came with it. I called them saying that I had not worked correctly, they told me to come in anyway. I told them again when I was there, and they said "why didn't you do this? or that?" like it was my fault that no one sent me the right instructions. I had the procedure then they say, oh you need to come back next year bc it wasn't clear. Are you kidding me? Then they actually send me a bill for the procedure. When I talked to customer service, they looked at my records and the instructions letter was never sent, and the cs rep says "why were you prescribed THAT? We never prescribe that anymore". Jesus. So they've got the admin assistants prescribing prep, not sending out instructions. The recovery nurse made a snide remark about "next time you'll have to fast for 48 hrs", I snapped back, next time maybe I'll get the right prep and instructions. So never again. Not there. And now I have to get another procedure done because they couldn't do it right. I have a family history of cancer so they're really messing with my health! This company is terrible. Avoid. read more

Terrible customer service. The staff was disrespectful and condescending. Before my procedure, I was not sent any instructions by mail, nor did I receive a phone call or an email. I picked up my prescription and followed the instructions carefully. When I arrived for my procedure, I was told that I was supposed to have followed different instructions, which had been posted to a patient portal (that I didn't know about) 5 months before. Although I heard the office staff telling people that they were running 40 minutes behind schedule, they told me that because I didn't follow the instructions correctly, I would cause my procedure to be 30 minutes later than it was scheduled, and therefore they wouldn't do it. Even though they were 40 minutes behind; I think they just wanted to get back on schedule. I asked to wait to see if they could "fit me in" and waited for 4 hours in the hot sun (Outside the office, due to covid) and they never fit me in nor apologized nor did anything except treat me like I had done something wrong. I would never go there again and suggest to anyone to go somewhere else! read more
