    My 92 year old mother was a patient at HDH/Forest for 10 days for CHF and AFib. Firstly, she was…read moreadmitted to an Oncology/Med Surg Unit for heart issues and did not receive a telemetry box for at least 18 hours. The nursing / hospitalist care was horrific. She received too much IV Lasix by day-3 and was weak, shaky, and severely dehydrated. Nurses were instructed by the cardiologist to give all her meds before her Cardioversion and she didn't receive any (including her blood thinner). Also, when one of her blood thinner pills fell to the floor, the male nurse told her she could skip it for the day. She was left alone in her room at the end of the hall with the door closed tightly when she became disoriented, agitated, and confused. One morning, her 9am pills were still sitting on her table at 12:30pm bc the nurse didn't make sure she took them (when she was confused). When the "nurse" was confronted about her untaken meds and the door being closed, she put her hand in my face and walked away stating she was "going to give me a minute". She had to use the call button repeatedly to ask for help reaching her food tray, only to be ignored, and finally received help when the hospitalist came in her room. She did not receive any hygiene or oral care unless I asked for clean sheets, washcloths, and towels, and then I did the care for her - not the employees. Apparently, hygiene and oral care is no longer a routine part of nursing care and patients can go days without it, unless they have an advocate to facilitate it. Every day she was a patient at HDH she became weaker and had more issues. Finally, there was a huge cockroach in her bathroom that I smashed with my shoe. The nurse manager argued that it was a water bug...it was NOT. This is actually the second time I've seen a cockroach in this hospital. I have vowed to never return to this God-awful facility and have asked my family (and you) to go somewhere else if they want to live. For a previous ER Visit for my 92 year old mother with CHF and shortness of breath (on 12/16/25), the ER physician told us that "her case really isn't an emergency because the ER is for traumas, gun shot wounds, and heart attacks", but he proceeded to give her IV Lasix and admit her for CHF. Ugh...really? His personality was not suited for emergency medicine.

Given everything that's happened recently, I was a little nervous, but we are so glad that we chose to deliver here. I was unexpectedly hospitalized with pre eclampsia at 36 weeks. The doctors and staff kept me overnight for monitoring and decided I needed to have my baby. They made sure they educated us on all of our options and step by step what the plan was. My delivery was so much less stressful than when I had my son, even though it wasn't exactly an easy birth. All of the nurse staff and NICU nurses/doctor were in the room ready in case they were needed, which they were. A nurse stood by my bed holding my hand calmly explaining what was going on with baby so I wouldn't panic. The neonatologist has my partner call me on the phone to discuss what exactly was going on instead of trying to have a sleep deprived person try and relay everything. They also got us set up with their app to monitor our baby 24/7 in the NICU. The nurses did everything they could to get vitals on me overnight but not wake me. They regularly checked in to make sure I didn't need anything. If the camera for baby was moved or turned off because of diagnostics, the nurses called the NICU to have it put back on. Every place has a few bad eggs but our experience here overall has been so amazing in so many ways. Diane in the NICU has been the most comforting nurse to work with while our baby girl is staying there. Our first night hospitalized, Meagan made sure to check on us regularly, keep us informed on everything and answer any questions, and just good off with us some to help us relax. If you're on the fence about this hospital for delivery, you can't go wrong. We are forever grateful for everything and everyone here during this experience. Update: My daughter was in the NICU for almost 3 weeks. They had just opened back up so we were slightly nervous. They have an app for you to watch your baby when you can't be there. The first neonatologist we met was great at explaining what was going on and giving a clear treatment plan with the goals she needed to meet. After a few days we had a different neonatologist who also was great and even said we could be a little more forgiving with her goals so we thought maybe we'd get her out sooner. We had to call up there a few times to ask them to turn on the camera as it had been off for hours. After repeatedly having issues and being upset after a meeting with the occupational therapist we were assigned, I spoke to the director of the NICU. She was so understanding and met with me every day or two for a week to check in. We came in one day and had a third neonatologist. Their plan was different than the other two and my fiance and I just got very frustrated. The doctor talked to us to see what the frustration was and what they could do to help. Throughout her stay there were a few miscommunications, however overall we were very happy with their care for her. Leanne was her nurse for the last few days and she was fantastic! She left us little notes on her swaddle to let us know how she had done at her most recent feeding/check in. When she walked us out to the car she gave us a hug and told us to keep them updated. Except for one nurse that answered the phone when we called once, everyone we met in here was very caring. I changed my review to 4 stars only because it was very frustrating having the camera off a lot or it wasn't working.

I've…read morebeen a patient since 2017, and from day one the experience has been nothing but positive. When you arrive, you enter downstairs, and the check-in process is very efficient. They have multiple check-in windows, so things move quickly. The staff provides a map, clearly draws the directions you need to go, and circles your room, which is incredibly helpful in a larger building. They also give you a tracker to clip onto your person while moving throughout the facility, just in case you get turned around. There is also a large amount of parking, which makes arriving stress-free. The entire building is beautiful. There are plants and artwork everywhere, and it is very well lit with a strong emphasis on natural lighting thanks to the many windows throughout the space. There is seating available as you walk through the building, as well as multiple waiting areas, which makes the experience comfortable and welcoming rather than overwhelming. Most importantly, my neurologist, Scott Haines, is absolutely wonderful. He is knowledgeable, thorough, and genuinely cares about his patients. He takes the time to listen, explain everything clearly, and ensure you feel confident and supported in your care. His entire team is just as amazing--professional, kind, and attentive. If you are looking for a neurologist you can truly trust, I highly recommend Dr. Haines and his team. I wouldn't trust my case with anyone else.

    I visited the ER at St. Mary's around 6:00 PM due to sudden bleeding and other symptoms that left…read moreme anxious and uncertain. Since I was already at the hospital, this was my only option. It was also my first time ever going to the ER. I was moved to a curtained communal waiting area, where my experience changed dramatically. From that point forward, I received very little attention from the nursing staff. No one checked on me or provided updates unless I got up and asked. I had to initiate everything, from getting instructions for a urine sample to asking for updates on pending results. It felt like a self-service situation, with minimal support for someone in a vulnerable state. Around an hour later or maybe two, Dr. Gatewood, who was kind, thorough, and communicative did stop by and explained all the CT scan and bloodwork results. This helped ease my concerns. There was one test remaining that he couldn't go over which resulted in me waiting additional hours. Around 11:00 PM, I received an email saying my discharge was being processed, before I had seen a second provider. Shortly after that, Dr. Ross Kalman came in. He introduced himself and quickly reviewed some test findings, focusing on one result without offering a full explanation. I asked questions to better understand what could be causing the bleeding, and his response was, "We only deal with emergencies here." That comment felt dismissive, especially after waiting nearly five hours. I wasn't frustrated at not having a diagnosis, I was seeking clarity, and this was my only opportunity to ask. I also brought up dehydration, something I've dealt with in the past, and requested IV fluids. Dr. Kalman denied the request, saying my labs looked fine. However, in his discharge notes, he incorrectly wrote that I denied oral fluids , I was never even offered any. In reality, he told me to "continue doing what you've been doing," which was vague and unhelpful. As our conversation ended, he said, "You look disappointed," and walked away. That's when I began to feel physically overwhelmed. I started to hyperventilate and that's when nurse Alexis eventually noticed and came to help me calm down. I stood up, intending to leave, but my legs gave out. I didn't yell or act aggressively , I simply became physically unwell. With all that being said, I was told this is a panic attack which I have never experienced. I'm in shocked why vitals were never checked, and how Dr. Kalman never returned or followed up. What's most concerning is how the episode was documented. His discharge summary described me as "verbally aggressive," "yelling," and said I "threw myself on the floor." None of this is true. The interaction happened privately, and no one else -- including multiple nurses, techs, and Dr. Gatewood, had any issues with me throughout my visit. Dr. Kalman did not examine me during or after this incident, yet made assumptions in his notes that were both exaggerated and inaccurate. As part of standard protocol, Dr. Kalman would have been aware of what happened yet he never came back to check on me. This whole incident is not just unprofessional and it's unacceptable. To make matters worse, my primary care doctor never received any record of this ER visit. That lack of communication is alarming, and reflects the broader issue of poor follow-through and documentation. This visit left me feeling unsupported and misrepresented at a time when I needed clarity and care. I'm sharing my experience so others can be aware of how important it is to advocate for themselves in medical settings, and how quickly a vulnerable moment can be misunderstood when compassion and attention are missing.
