Daily enemas and playing around with dosage amounts of Metamucil? That what an appointment at Gastro Health with Johanna M. Taniguchi will get you. I made an appointment with Gastro Health for my dad's digestive issues- his quality of life has been greatly negatively impacted by this issue. This place requires that you first meet with an RN, he saw Johanna M. Taniguchi. All she could offer my dad was, "playing around with doses of Metamucil" and daily enemas! She recommended he drink water and stay hydrated ( he's not dehydrated). Is this the best she can offer? Such a waste of an appointment- DEFINITELY will NOT be returning. read more

Seriously the worst customer service I have experienced in a very long time. The scheduling process is beyond frustrating. I called to schedule a colonoscopy, and after spending some time convincing the scheduler that I did indeed want to schedule, they gave me an appointment for an interview/screening appointment weeks later. No confirmation or reminder, so on the day and time of that appointment, I was waiting by phone. When the appointment time came and went, I called their line (this was 5 minutes after my appointment) to see if there was an issue, and was on hold for 10 minutes before getting their message that they were busy and I should leave a message. I left a message explaining my appointment time, that nobody had called, please call me back if I need a different appointment, etc. I then hang up and see that I have a missed call from them while I was on hold. No voice mail left. I call back, and hang out in perma-hold again, to be greeted with same message that they are busy. No call back ever, so I call them the next morning, and explain what happened. I am told that they can get me back on the schedule for the interview portion in 2 weeks. Nothing they can do, first available time. This is unacceptably poor customer service, on top of a poor scheduling/reminder system. read more

I had my first colonoscopy with Dr. Lewis about four years ago. He made the whole process relatively easy and I so appreciated my first intake appointment with him. He took time to get to know me as a person and thoroughly informed me as a patient. My colonoscopy needed the necessary prep ahead of time at home, the procedure went well as did the recovery. The staff were efficient and friendly. I left knowing that as long as Dr. Lewis is in practice I will choose him as my gastroenterologist. read more

I've had two colonoscopies here over the past eleven years and would have rated them as good, maybe four stars, up until my recent experience. I wonder if the doctors who practice here have any idea that the woman who answers the phone and schedules procedures is nasty and unprofessional. I called to schedule a colonoscopy and asked what I thought was a pretty simple question...would it be possible to request an all-female crew for the procedure? This woman responded as if she were on a game show... "I'm gonna go with... NO!!" I was surprised at this unprofessional response, but asked her if she would mind checking. She replied, "You mean NOW??!" in a very hostile manner, like I was causing her great inconvenience. I responded that I was surprised at her response and wondered if she would ask someone else, and she immediately hung up on me! Pretty shocking. So... the end result is that I scheduled the procedure with a different facility and Gastro Health misses out on the $5,000 fee that my insurance would have paid. So if any of the doctors at this facility read this, you might want to check on the behavior of your front desk staff. You lost my business for good, and I am betting that this nasty woman has probably driven others away as well. read more

Had an extremely poor experience with customer service. I had a colonoscopy scheduled for 6 weeks and then they called to cancel 3 days before appt stating they no longer accept my insurance. They just said we'll cancel your appt even though I was having severe symptoms and needed to be seen. read more

I've had 4 patient encounters with Dr. Gregory Bernstein and all (including 2 upper endoscopies) have been excellent. Dr. Bernstein is interested, attentive, thoughtful, thorough and direct. He listens and takes time to explain things well. His staff is also excellent and my visits have been seamless. As a medical professional (M.D.) I have had a variety of experiences receiving medical care and not all were good. Based on my experiences, Dr. Bernstein and staff fall among a modest group who I feel clearly deserve 5 stars. I have not been a part of the Washington state medical community professionally nor do I have a personal relationship, thus I can be completely objective. read more

I am 57 years old and having my 1st colonoscopy and a endoscopy I was freaked out. Dr Bernstein and the nurses are awesome I went to sleep, hour later going home. Dr Bernstein was very thoughtful answered all my questions. To be honest the prep was the worst the procedure nothing to it. I think they are great. read more

I've worked in healthcare as a manager/director for over 30 years. I experienced some of my worst customer service with this group. Not feeling well, I had to call back 3 times with details of my insurance coverage, even though the scheduler could have looked up the coverage information with the data I had provided. It should not take 4 calls to get an appointment scheduled. Even my insurer commented that their requests were unreasonable and unnecessary. I went to the Polyclinic instead where I was able to schedule in one call and was seen within a couple of days. Save yourself additional pain and go elsewhere. read more

I have been stomach pain for more than a year, and had to go through a few physicians, before I got a referral to gastroenterology. I had a great experience with Dr. Tamura from the first visit to the procedures, and all the staff have been on top of things. Finally I can live my life without pain. Thank you! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Lewis for perhaps seven years at this point and in my book he's about the best doctor one could hope for. Originally I was referred to him because of a diagnosis by my primary care physician that warranted the evaluation of a specialist. That led to procedures that Dr. Lewis performed that have been instrumental in prolonging my life expectancy. Subsequently I was hospitalized for a condition that is also in Dr. Lewis's area of specialty and I ended up needing exploratory procedures as well as medical advice on lifestyle changes. Dr. Lewis listens very well, is patient with endless questioning, welcomes patient's own efforts to educate themselves and come prepared with questions and concerns, and is tactful in the way he delivers both news as well as medical advice. I will admit that I have been kept waiting for an incredibly excessive amount of time on one occasion and it could have been handled better by the office staff and Dr. Lewis, but that is the only complaint I can voice and the real question is "Would I recommend him to my friends and family?" and I can easily say I would do more than that - I would nag and pester them to see Dr. Lewis if a gastroenterologist is needed. I know that they would receive the best care possible in Seattle. read more

The doctors are great but the front desk staff is so rude. Kathlene is by far the worst front desk receptionist I have ever met. When I arrived for check-in I was not greeted. She was trash talking about another patient and seemed to not even know I was there. I finally had to say I was there to check in before I was acknowledged. She treated me like a lower class human being and acted like she had better things to do. I called to complain to the manager "Vanja" and I was sent to her voicemail twice and never got a call back. When I returned for a followup visit I actually called from the lobby to talked to the manager. I saw the receptionist get up, tell the manager the was upset pt on the phone and vanja laughed and said send it to voicemail. I have since found a new clinic. The only bright spot was a girl named lorissa who actually seemed to care about the patients. read more

I had an amazing experience here at the endoscopy center. Words can not express how amazing the nursing staff nursing anesthesiologist, and Dr Blais is. Every single one of these people eased my extreme anxiety and made me feel so safe and comfortable. One nurse in particular I wish I could remember her name(sweet short brownish reddish hair and Asian) is the absolute best nurse I have ever met. She held my hand hugged me and reassured me every minute that I would be okay. She was absolute unbelievably kind and professional. She walked me through my entire procedure, told me not to fear anything and calmed me completely. She even came back early from her break to check on me after the procedure and say goodbye. Every person in the back handling the procedures was so kind and professional I am completely blown away with what I good experience I have had. I have recommended several people to this office and to Dr. Pierre Blais because of the amazing care I have received ! So grateful. Thank you guys so much. read more

I went to see Dr. Lewis based on the recommendation of my doctor, who had heard good things from another patient. I was concerned about a possible health condition, and my anxiety had reached a peak. My friend who agreed to take care of me after the procedure, though, had seen Dr. Lewis in the past, and when I'd told her that he was the doctor I'd be seeing, she sighed and said, "Oh, he's great! You'll be fine." Dr. Lewis is a gentle​ ​listener, and he was able to help me to sort out the science and the myths I'd come across about the ways the stomach works. He knew what I needed before I had to ask, recommending some testing that was the easiest course of action. I saw Dr. Alexandra Read as a new patient at this clinic. My colonoscopy procedure was scheduled for 3:30- I was not put on the table until 5:00. The doctors procedure room nurse was a big man and quite impatient. When I woke up the doctor was gone so I asked the nurse about my procedure. Dr. Read had removed two polyps. I got home and woke at two AM with chills, weakness and extensive abdominal pain. I have had three colonoscopies (and polyps removed) previously but had never had pain after. When I spoke with Dr. Read's nurse later that morning she said the reason for my pain was apparent from reading chart notes. Dr. Read (& male nurse?) had done a manual assist- this involves putting pressure on the outside stomach muscles to guide the scope. Why had no one told me this AND that I should expect some pain?? When I asked if I could take Tylenol she said the doctor recommended something over the counter for gas and that the doctor would call me. This was not gas pain and Dr. Read NEVER called. In her follow-up letter to me she said she did not call because I asked the nurse if I could change doctor's for future exams. But that request was made the day after she neglected to call me. Her report explained the "manual assist" stating that I had a twisty colon. A later CAT scan showed that my colon was not twisty. The reason for the CAT scan was that I had significant pain for eight months after the colonoscopy- in my left rib cage and in the area of my Sigmoid colon below. The polyps Dr Read removed were from my Sigmoid colon. When I was examined by my osteopath I learned that I had a partial subluxation of the left 8th and 9th ribs. These ribs were the most likely to be injured during manual assist- as they are in close proximity to the Sigmoid colon. My symptoms are much improved after a five day nutrition (Elemental) powder liquid diet (twice)- recommended by my naturopath. It allowed the colon to heal. I am seeing a specialist to slowly realign the left rib cage. I recently saw another GI doctor who diagnosed my pain as nerve damage to the colon. She did not recommend the stomach acid suppressors that Dr. Read's (very kind and attentive) colleague prescribed for me. I had discontinued them after four weeks because they did not reduce the pain and had side effects. My co-worker also saw Dr Read as a new patient. It took three months for her to receive her colonoscopy results. The explanation she received is that the doctor was on vacation. There are other doctors at this clinic that are very good doctors. read more

He listens carefully, answers questions in language I understand, and demonstrates the highest level of professional care and concern. I also enjoy working with his staff, who treat me as an adult who is part of my own healthcare team. They recently worked me into his very busy schedule, which I understand and appreciate. Dr. Lewis makes sure I understand the problem and involves me in finding a solution. I have the highest regard for him and recommend him to anyone who needs care. I struggled with diarrhea for over one year and was with another GI doc for 8 months or so. My primary doctor told me to stop seeing that GI doc (Dr. P. Headstrom) and go see his GI doc, Dr. Steven Lewis. He is very easy to talk to and ... he figured out my problem out in one visit. It was the Magnesium supplement I started to take over a year ago believing what the Magnesium bottle said that it help with my nerves. When I stopped taking it, my diarrhea went away in couple days. One visit and my problem was gone. I went and saw him one more time and that was it. We then communicated by emails and told him I'm fine. He is good and very experienced. No more colonoscopy to figure this one out. He was very good to me. read more
