This was a joke! I should have known better. I wasted an hour chatting with Dr. McCarty who was compelled to start off by explaining she is trained as a real doctor. I thought if I had any problems with it, I would not have gone there. Why does she need to defend her degree and title? [I remember later I got a weird email from Dr. Marco Vespignani with an angry tone stating that some people don't think of Naturopathic Physicians as real Physicians. He was asking the patients to write glamorous letters describing what Naturopathic Medicine has done for us.] Dr. McCarty was really upset when she found out that I had done my check up exams elsewhere. She forced me to have the results sent to her office right away and made sure I know she was capable of doing those tests and that I should only go to her in the future. She literally asked me why I was there if I have already done my lab tests. Super unprofessional and a strange experience for me. She had nothing to tell about my health concerns and I felt more like I was in a therapy session or being interviewed by a mad psychologist. She kept asking personal irrelevant detailed questions about my childhood, family, education, etc and was busy typing my answers(?) in her laptop the entire time. Her tiny room is located right in front of the receptionist and the restroom where people keep walking by. I could easily hear them talking, meaning they could easily hear us too. No privacy. The front office was helpful but they did not hesitate to keep fixing my pronunciation of Dr. McCarty's name. I am not a native English speaker and I see no point in making me ashamed of not pronouncing "McCarty" like you Americans do. Sure, my intonation is different but I wasn't calling her a different name. It was super easy to make an appointment. They try to sell you supplements and they do push as much as you let them. I never went back and obviously do not recommend. I'd also be more careful about the reviews; some of those don't seem legit and there are plenty of filtered reviews. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but after my visits to Seattle Integrative Medicine - I wish I could give more then 5 stars for the kindness, empathy (not a word I usually associate with medicine) and professionalism this practice seems to deliver on a regular basis. If you've ever dreaded going to your doctor - get used to a new kind of experience because Dr. Marco is a kind informed provider that actually takes the time to listen to the questions I have- and then works with me to come up with realistic solutions. When I reach out after the visit with a question (or 2) I forgot to ask (this happens with age) - the office makes it a point to get back to me with an answer pretty quick. I really appreciate it. I also really like that they have a pharmacy for vitamins and health supplements. As hard as I try to stay in shape- having a bit more fish oil and Vitamin D really makes a difference for me. Who knew? Evidently, my doctor did. It's a one stop doctors appointment (which makes things pretty easy for me). One of the things that strikes me about Seattle Integrative Medicine is the amount of time the doctors spend with their patients, asking genuine questions about their health and well being. Where most clinics can make one feel as if they strive on seeing a quota or quantity of patients, SIH has a completely different approach, focusing on limiting the number of patients seen in a day to provide the best care possible. Careful consideration is given to scheduling so not to cause tremendous wait times, but they do provide a cozy patient lounge with teas, magazines and alternative health periodicals. Each doctor has their own approach to care, but I've worked with three of the physicians (two while my regular doctor was scheduled out of the office). In each case, I can say without reservation that they were prepared, had read my chart, discussed my information with my regular doctor and were knowledgeable about how to approach my questions or care. My personal doctor is one with whom I have worked on my health care for almost 15 years. I would trust no one more with the care of my health than my doctor at SIH. One of the most impressive things I've experiences almost each time is that my doctor actually researches issues with me while I'm at the clinic with her, so we can best resolve questions and find healthy approaches. If she can't find an answer immediately, she always emails the information and provides great resources for reading materials. I've never EVER experiences a "traditional" US physician who cares for patients with such depth. More impressive, my doctor told me that she loves her job and coming to the clinic. The inflection with which she relayed that resonated a great sincerity. Now that is a doctor you everyone should be fortunate enough to have in their health care plan. Side note: The clinic is relatively easy to find, but can be confused with a sister clinic two buildings away on the same block. Parking is a bit of a challenge, but it is not terribly inconvenient. They are also easy to reach and within walking distance of the 66/67 and 70 Metro lines. read more

I learned from being a patient of Dr Marco's for a few months that there is indeed a big difference in being a "naturopath" vs an actual "MD." I have mixed reviews about this place. The staff is very kind but beyond that "Dr Marco" didn't seem to be able to help much in the way of migraines. I'm perplexed because so many of the other reviews talk about the detailed treatment plans he gave etc.... but outside of the magnesium pushes, he didn't really have any techniques or didn't really even know about the effects of basic migraine medications. He also prescribed some topical hormones for the migraines and had no clue what to do when I began having very unpleasant side effects. In addition, the magnesium pushes actually made the pain worse or didn't help at all. I have since switched over to a real neurologist and have seen great improvement in my condition, in addition to working with a certified dietitian and physical therapist. I just didn't feel that much trust in him. I am a big supporter and advocate of alternative treatments and have worked with amazing acupuncturists and herbalists in the past, but overall Dr. Marco just doesn't seem that intelligent when it comes to migraine care. There's something to say for working with a real MD if you have serious migraine attacks. Also, my husband went to see the other doctor for a physical and again...not impressed. He didn't really know much about health or had any valuable tips, advice. There's something to say for completing medical school! read more

I have seen both Dr. Marco and Dr. McCarty at Seattle Integrative medicine. Both are incredibly attentive, caring professionals with a nuanced understanding of physiology and natural medicine. Dr. Marco was the only medical professional (after too many fruitless visits n the MD world) to validate, understand, investigate and treat my husband's chronic fatigue and inflammation after being on a high dose of prednisone for a life-threatening auto-immune issue. Within 2 weeks he lost 15 pounds of water weight and looked ten years younger. So far so good! I have had severe, life-threatening, and steroid-resistant asthma since I was 7. I've been to the National Jewish Hospital for Immunology & Respiratory Diseases 3 times. I'm 36 now and I have 4 kids. After my last pregnancy-my twins were born, I began experiencing periods of shortness of breath...I just couldn't take a deep breath. Conventional medicine had been the ticket to health & wellness in the past, but now all of my docs were at a loss and I was being passed around from one expensive specialist to the next. I was laid off from my job after 6 1/2 yrs with the company last fall and my insurance ran out. But I was getting sicker and couldn't exercise anymore. I first met Dr Mischley when I volunteered to participate in a study she was leading for a Parkinson's drug therapy (I was diagnosed in 2011). I wasn't able to participate, but I was very impressed with her. She cares more about the patient than any doctor I've ever met. I'd already read her book many times over ('Natural Therapies for Parkinson's Disease') before meeting her in person. That book is my bible! A few years later I discovered SIM, and I'm overjoyed to be her patient! I have a neurologist and he is very good, but what was lacking was a ND like Dr Mischley, someone who would help me do everything necessary to slow down (or even stop) the progression of PD. I've been going to Dr. Marco for massage for more than three years. Even after my very first appointment with him, just about all my pain was gone, which was incredible. I've had back surgery and studied ballet/contemporary dance for more 15 years, both creating some really difficult issues for me. No one else has been able to resolve all my weird patterns that tighten into twisted bands of tension. It always amazes me that he's able to accomplish this in a one-hour appointment every single time. Finding him was like winning the lottery for me. I was finally completely out of pain for the first time in decades. And he's even covered on my insurance, unlike most of the other LMT's I've been to - and paid top dollar over decades. But even more than this, over these three years, I've come to appreciate him for being one of my best doctors of all. He's helped me with so many medical issues and been my second opinion when I needed to go to specialists. He's saved me from making some big mistakes by asking questions that I had not thought of and by providing a doctor's perspective on some of the other's recommendations. And he really, honestly cares about me, as his patient. In my book, doctors don't get better than this. In fact, everyone I've seen in his clinic has been exceptional. I love coming to Seattle Integrative Medicine mostly because I feel everyone genuinely cares about the health and well-being of their patients. I've been seeing Dr. Marco (last name is Vespignani, which is fun to say actually, but he often goes by Dr. Marco) for about 8 months. I first came to him through my boss' recommendation for a food allergy testing because I was getting quite sick quite often. 2 weeks later, he gives me the news that I need to avoid all of the following from my diet: wheat, gluten, soy, dairy, most nuts and eggs- WHAAAT....! Difficult to do at first, but I'm telling you, once you train your tastebuds and body to not get used to something, it will get used to something- especially if it means not being sick! What I like most about Dr. Marco is that he explains what's going on with my body and we talk about how to fix the root of the problem instead of "just treating symptoms with medications" like it seemed like my PCP at the Polyclinic was trying to do...he's really easy to talk to and is very good about getting back to any e-mails. He's also a wonderful LMP, so I would get a great medical massage which my insurance covers(extra bonus). One day I was very sick and Dr. Marco was not in the clinic, so he recommended I see Dr. Melissa McCarty. She was SO caring and empathetic. She patiently listened as I described all of my symptoms and asked plentiful questions to help assess the problem. Jackie at the front is very sweet, and I have talked to a few other receptionists, but I mostly see Jackie when I come in. It's so important to have a strong front desk representative like her and she seems like she knows what she's doing and does it with a smile. I started visiting Dr. McCarty a few years ago, when I was looking for an improved approach to preventive medicine and overall wellness. Since then, she has become my primary physician and first point of contact when I have any medical concerns or general health and wellness questions. Each year, I visit Dr. McCarty for a prescribed and supervised annual detox cleanse. I typically do this for a month, starting at the end of each January. I also complete a 2-4 week detox cleanse at the onset of each summer. Each detox cleanse is altered to accommodate whatever my body needs to either get well or stay well. Dr. McCarty is professional, attentive and empathetic, with that last quality being rare in the medical field. She is the first doctor to take me down a road of recovery after years of worsening health and confusion from doctors and myself over what was wrong with me. However, what I appreciate most about Dr. McCarty is that she doesn't pretend to know all the answers. I think this should be a required trait of all doctors. I had always wanted to visit a naturopath but was afraid to do so for some odd reason. A colleague told me about Seattle Integrative Medicine and I thought to myself '2015 is the year of change and doing what's best for me', so I decided to give it a go! I've been going to see Dr. Moyaert for a few weeks now and she's simply awesome! She has this calm soothing voice and she listens to her patients which is a rarity nowadays. She looks into every little detail that could help improve my condition and I love that. Too bad I'm moving to the east coast soon because I was so so so so very super happy that I'd finally found a doctor I could trust. Best Medical Practice Ever! As a mother of a daughter that has struggled with many medical issues for an extended period of time, with dozens of medical visits to conventional offices and zero results . . . Madison was a hardened patient walking into Seattle Integrative Medicine. She was skeptical to Naturopathic Physicians (for that matter, all other doctors). At the end of the hour, it was very refreshing to see her walk out into the waiting room with a huge beam of sunshine in her eyes, a glisten that I had not seen in over a year. She was all laughs & smiles and a skip in her step. Pure joy. Why? It was because Dr. Marco Vispignani had real answers for Madison! Yes, Dr. Marco Vispignani was able to identify ALL of Madison's medical issues and provide viable answers in which she needs to care for her body. Thank you Dr. Marco! Thank you Seattle Integrative Medicine! To elaborate, Madison was suffering & living with severe abdominal pains, she would be completely debilitated for a day if not days. Madison first saw the family general physician, which the family doctor referred Madison to a gastrointestinal doctor. Madison underwent a physical with the GI doctor and was prescribed 3 medications. We wanted to address her severe pain proactively to avoid the stage of pain, we did not merely want medications to attempt to mask the pains. Ultimately the medications did not work. Madison underwent a endoscopy in search of answers. Nothing, except discomfort, time and unnecessary medical expenses. Since that did not provide answers to the GI doctor, she wanted to perform a colonoscopy. Yes, another medical procedure that provided no answers, merely more discomfort, time and medical expenditures. Also the attempt of different medications that only compounded or masked the real issue. The GI medical expert had zero viable answers! While the GI doctor was doing her thing, we also pursued a very popular medical doctor, an expert allergist. This was a farce! The doctor want "us" to identify what we wanted my daughter tested for her allergic reactions. Yes, the obvious of dairy, shellfish, nuts - but what else? We wanted a thorough testing, but "we" had no idea what my daughter should be tested for and the expert allergist doctor's office lacked the expertise to insure we covered every possible angle since "we" had to check the box of items we wanted tested (each test being $XX and no recommended testing packages). This was like putting the stethoscope in my hands and asking me to identify the problems. This was beyond ridiculous. Once again, it was Seattle Integrative Medicine and Dr. Marco Vispignani that provided my daughter with important answers (a comprehensive diagnosis) and also provided a viable management plan that my daughter could handle herself for her severe abdominal pains. Also with all things being connected, this also cleared up my daughter's acne. Yes, we spend a multitude of $$$$ on a dermatologist (non medical coverage for the most part) to no avail. Just frustration from creams & pills that did not work (the pills had horrible side effects too). My beautiful teenage daughter battling acne was unsettling. Once Madison focused on Dr. Marco's management plan, Madison's face and back had cleared. Beautiful skin is in! Talk about a boost! Wow! The Seattle Integrative Medicine Team made everything seem so simple (which all the other doctors made overly complex). To also reiterate, it was SIM that provided the proper diagnosis and the solutions, much being proactive measures by avoiding a thorough list of foods that are toxins to my daughter's body. But that was not the only thing my daughter suffered from, she also had weekly migraines. If you are a migrainer, you know a migraine can be dreadfully incapacitating. Once again, Dr. Marco came to my daughter's rescue. Her migraines are now rare, they are manageable since they tend to be low-grade migraines. This is bliss! Our only regret is that we did not go to Seattle Integrative Medicine first! This would have saved a year+ of suffering for my daughter. Madison is a well-being now. I have been seeing ND's and doing CAM for MS treatment for over 7 years, since the 'conventional health care system' kept sending me into anaphylaxis with conventional medicine and keeping me on disability due to chronic issues with the MS. I have been seeing Dr. Vespignani for about 2 years for my multiple sclerosis and allergy issues, along with CAM from Dr. Holder, as appropriate. There is always parking near the office, I can schedule ONLINE, and everyone at the office is great. Case in point: when I moved back to my home town of Seattle I needed to find a doctor who would order my custom-made MS medication (because I'm allergic to the regular stuff). Dr. Vespignani (you can say Dr. Marco, if that's easier - he's cool), said 'no problem' and called the pharmacy while I was sitting there. In the event my medication is late (as happens some times), they call me immediately to reschedule and are very flexible to work with my time. This clinic has helped me find a neurologist willing to work with my approach to health care, and having an L.Ac in the facility is very convenient, as it helps with my MS. Dr. Holder was able to set me up with a local honey connection to treat the hay fever of my entire family, and it's worked wonders. Many of the supplements I need I can also pick up during my office visit. These doctors treat the whole person, helping me with my fatigue and allergies, and not just the MS. Did I mention natural lighting in the offices? Or at least as much as possible. I'm one of those people that sees the flicker in fluorescent lights, and it makes me woozy. None of that at SIM. A note about cost: many people think they can't afford CAM/ND visits. It *is* medical treatment and covered by most insurance. Old way for me: monthly prescription of copaxone or avonex: $100. Annual MRI's, and other medical followups running another $400-ish per year. New way: glutathione treatments every 4-6 weeks: $25 copay. MRI's and other tests only as needed! Even without insurance glutathione is only about $80. I feel better and have a better quality of life because of this approach to health care. read more

SIM is such a wonderful clinic, I wish I found it sooner. After finding my general western PCP less than supportive about my health concerns I took another path and was referred to Dr. Moyaert. She is not only an ND but also an LMP. Dr. Moyaert looks at my health from a holistic (but not too hippy dippy) perspective and it makes all the difference. Our patient-clinician relationship seems very equal and like we work together because I'm the expert on my body. Dr. Moyaert combines massage and naturopathic medicine together for the best treatment plan. Dr. Moyaert has evening and weekend appointments and frequently takes great care to go above and beyond to support me in my healing path by calling or emailing me to check in, report on a lab result, or make a recommendation that occurred to her after I leave the office. My appointments usually are between lengthy (to my liking) and often as I need them to be. It's such a great continuity of care and the follow through and personalized services are great. I was taken aback by the treatment I received at first because I never expected to start feeling better and feel so supported by my doctor! My first thoughts- I am THANKFUL. I have been battling migraines for the past 5 or 6 months and this was the first doctor appointment that I walked away from feeling hopeful. The first thing he asked me was how my light sensitivity was, and then adjusted the lighting in the exam room so I was comfortable. Even the thoughtfulness in that surprises a jaded patient who has been to other clinics previously. He taught me so much about migraines. Explained why they happened and the various triggers. Considering I've never dealt with this before- it was all extremely useful information and so helpful. He was the first doctor to give me a treatment plan. Here are the steps we are going to take to try and identify why this is happening. He was compassionate in understanding what I go through every day! He gave me numerous suggestions. Great advice. Vitamins and supplements that will help. We did allergy testing and other panels. I'm hopeful to find answers somewhere. He was more than willing to answer all of my questions! He has more than a lot of experience in the neurology field and in regards to migraines, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological disorders. I would highly recommend him for his laid-back demeanor, and genuine interest in what you have to say. A doctor who listens?! I didn't know that existed :) I left with a ton of information and most importantly, a renewed hope that I had found a clinic that genuinely cares. It can definitely take time to diagnose why I have these migraines- but I know that if anywhere can help me, this clinic can. 5 Stars for Seattle Integrative Medicine!! This place ROCKS in every possible fashion. I have seen 2 ND's here, the most recent being Dr. Kaltunas, who I can honestly say, is the only physician that I know and trust, having lived over 2 years in Seattle - and that says A LOT for me. She accepts me for who I am, is caring, non-judgmental, knowledgable, and simply - delivers. The front office staff is quite exceptional - they always answer the phone (quite - the rarity, in this area of business) and they are *always* very friendly, responsive, and helpful. I am a big fan of Dr. Moyaert. She's a breath of fresh air. She really works in partnership with patients, genuinely respecting a patient's knowledge, ideas and intuition about their own health! Instead of being a slightly condescending expert, she has the manner of a knowledgeable friend: she's creative,thoughtful, respectful, and supportive. And she takes the time to really explain her thinking and recommendations. She's the best. I also love the down-to-earth little office and the warm, expert receptionists. SIM is a great naturopathic medical practice. I've seen Dr Mischley and Dr Holder, both of whom I love for their attention to detail and their problem-focused approach. I love their holistic (whole body) methodology. Every time I go in for an appointment I'm reminded why naturopathy works for me. I love that I can get my blood drawn, have my appointment and buy the recommended supplements all at the same location. No driving all over town! In the past I have been to my GP for various things and have usually left feeling as if I am an automobile that just left a mechanic shop. For the first time ever after my initial appointment with Dr. Holder at Seattle Integrative, I did not feel that way -- I felt that I was looked at as a whole. Yikes! Terrible!! Just had one of the worst medical experiences ever. Didn't even see the doctor after hours of waiting because of a mistake the front desk made with scheduling - they didn't get ahold of me to reschedule - doctor didn't make an effort to squeeze me in. No parking anywhere, construction zone nightmare - I'm handicapped so that wasn't great. The office was dingy and shabby as well - and I should know - I memorized every inch of it while waiting to see if the doctor could squeeze me in - no. (This was Dr. Marco, FYI.) Just didn't inspire confidence at all and I will never return. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Marco at Seattle Integrative Medicine for about two years. He is AMAZING and I wish there were more docs like him out there. He truly cares about his patients and takes a very holistic approach to his treatment. He is also very thorough in his explanations about how the body works and I always feel better after taking with him. Dr. Marco was also the first doc to discover my dairy and gluten allergy as well as my thyroid condition. He took the time to REALLY talk to me about my symptoms, ask the right questions, run the right tests, and analyze the whole picture.
