I was referred here by my PCP for my first colonoscopy. As an RN for over 40yrs, I appreciate how difficult our healthcare system can be. From the referral, this office called me promptly to set up my procedure, and reviewed my history over the phone, then sent me very specific instructions on my prep via mail, which I like. The office was very good with reminders via text of my upcoming date. The location is great, right near post office abd close to highway. The parking is great and my procedure was at 1pm(I was home by 2:15). I went in at 12:30 just to check in and sign the consent and went in and spoke to a nurse before they prepped me. Everyone was so friendly and nice and made me feel at ease. The place is clean, neat, not noisy, very peaceful and quiet. I met my GI doctor- Dr Dreisbach, who was very nice and answered any questions I had. She was friendly, professional, gentle and I was in good hands. She came to talk with me after my procedure in recovery. The staff offered me juice and crackers/cookies, then I sat up and dressed. The nurse walked me out to my ride and we laughed about something goofy I probably said. They gave me discharge instructions to take home in case I needed to call if I had any problems or questions. I had the worst experience ever with the front desk staff at this place. I am new to town and I went to the wrong office. Been a patient for years, just had a procedure a few months ago. My internist advised I schedule an appt for abdominal pain. Had to wait 5 months for an appointment ! Finally got sent for imaging but had to get the results directly from the diagnostic center after requests to this office and waiting a week for results. A real decline in professionalism. read more

I had an appointment today, and woke up during the middle of the night with what I assume is a stomach bug. I called them before they opened and left a message. Then I called back after they opened. I was told I was informed that they told me I couldn't cancel or they wouldn't see me. So we now have a group of doctors who are refusing to see me cause I didn't want to go in and give everyone the stomach bug. This isn't the only thing they gave me problems on. I was having trouble with my insurance and being dropped, when they 1st called after the referral and got the worst attitude from the person who was calling telling me they don't book people who have no insurance. Also, I was told that I had to get my records to them or they would cancel my appt too. Idk what kind of place this is but they treat people like shit and lie to people. My doctor referred me to them because they have a site in Pawtucket but when I asked about going to this office I was told they had no office here, funny cause that is not what it says on their site! Liars! So my doctor's nurse called to do a follow up as to why my appt was kicked back to them. After the office not answering for 2 days she finally got a hold of them and they said that I missed 3 appts. I like to know when cause this was my 1st appt. I was referred to Gastroenterology Associates after being hospitalized for Crohn's disease at the Miriam hospital this past summer. I previously went to a practice where the doctors failed to notice the severe progression of my disease, so when I was hospitalized, I intentionally went to a different hospital my former practice was not affiliated with. This proved to be the right move as I have received nothing but great care from my new doctor at Gastroenterology Associates, Brett Kalmowitz. The doctors here are certainly up to date on the latest news and treatments in the realms of gastroenterology and alike. This is especially important, when in regards to Crohn's disease as new discoveries and methods of treatment are being made every day. As I have mentioned in a previous review, I have always felt our options for good quality medical care in RI have been few and far in-between, but I do not feel this way about Gastro Associates. Their main office in Providence (they also have many satellite offices in RI & MA) is gorgeous and their staff is very nice and proficient. They are very modern when it comes to technology and using technology to their advantage in the practice. After each visit I am given a print out with everything that was gone over in my visit and it certainly helps. So far, I am very impressed with my doctor and this practice, I highly recommend them. read more

Dr. Gao is BEYOND amazing. She was recommended through a coworker who had recently had a colonoscopy done. Being 29 and never having any gastro issues I was extremely nervous during my consult and my procedure. She made me feel so comfortable and reassured me she would find the cause and communicate and get me through this. Her bedside manor is the utmost greatest and that goes for the staffing during my procedure and recovery. Bree was also amazing and made sure I was comfortable. Their genuine care for their patients will make anyone who is nervous suddenly much more relaxed. I would highly recommend this office for any consult/procedure needed. First of all I need to say that this is the worst billing service I have had in my entire life. First of all, when I called the Gastroenterology Associate office to ask if my insurance will cover the service I needed, the person who answer the phone told me that because of my deductible, the insurance will cover the half of the procedure and I'll need to pay out of my pocket the other half, that in my case will be $1,044.00 dollars. She also said that I needed to pay that amount right away in order for them to make the procedure, which I did. After the procedure ( colonoscopy) I thought that I was all set (They never mention new charges) but for my surprise I received three new bills, with amounts that were confusing to understand and add to $950 dollars more. This was very frustrating and I had to call the office a bunch of times to get someone to explain the new charges to me which they couldn't explain, so the last solution they gave me was to call my insurance to get explanation. read more

This place is super efficient. You can view test results and appointments online, they are quick to call you in, and all charts are pre-organized and ready for your check-in.... WOW. It's definitely a business and lacks that neighborhood doctor's office feel, but who cares? You come in, you get out, and everyone you meet is very friendly. Super efficient process for an endoscopy too. They do it enough that they've got it down to a science. I recommend this location to anyone looking for a GI specialist. read more

What I liked about this place, after having been there only once, was that it was very businesslike. In and out, with a very frank conversation with the doctor. While everyone here was nice and helpful during the procedure, my overall experience has been a nightmare. Before scheduling my procedure, I asked what costs this would incur. They put me on hold while they called my insurance to ask. Apparently, West River Endoscopy was told that it wouldn't incur a cost and wouldn't be subject to my deductible. I agreed to the procedure, and then afterwards was billed over $500. They opened a dispute with my insurance on my behalf and explicitly told me to ignore the bills until I heard from them or my insurance about the outcome of the dispute. Instead of getting back to me about the outcome (or even an update), they submitted the bill to a collection agency. I'm not sure if they're unorganized or have a lack of internal communication, but they've really lost my trust, respect, and business. read more

While preparing for a colonoscopy, they had me urine in an unmarked plastic cup and told me to leave it on the back of the toilet- next to someone else's urine. While changing, they barged into my area calling me the wrong name. Then, they told me what to expect after an endoscopy- a procedure I didn't even have. I was awake throughout the entire procedure and they told me I would need to "pass gas" before I left. Nobody asked me if I was doing this & they discharged me with no instruction on what to do for my stomach pain. read more
