Strong practice Convenient bloodwork…read moreTechnologically savvy It's high time for an update, and I have both more and better things to say about Wayland Medical ~12 years in. Getting appointments with the practice has been notably smooth throughout my time with them; the staff is willing to work with you based on your needs and clinician availability. I've also enjoyed seeing a few of the other practice members (eg Benitez, Berg, Rodriguez), each of whom is thorough, knowledgeable, and helpful. The use of the Healow medical app as a portal, and their fully integrated connectivity to electronic medical record systems, has given me peace of mind that all my instances of care are suitably connected in one place. It's also convenient to be able to head downstairs for a quick and easy blood draw when required - and again, clear results are available in the app shortly thereafter. I've also noticed the patient set is younger than it used to be - not just geriatrics anymore. As important as anything above, Dr Ruggieri is friendly and engaged during visits, as the rest of the staff I've dealt with are also. I definitely have a "medical home" at Wayland Medical.

When I talk to other people they seem to think all of this is normal, but it's not what I've been used to. First of all, the office waiting area as well as the building is a little run down. It would be nice to have an office that makes you feel fresh, even if you're not feeling fresh yourself. The first time I met with Dr. Dorris, she was nice, but she came into the room with an agenda. After I left and went to pick up my medication, I found out that she has prescribed another vitamin that she did not tell me about. This is the same vitamin that she asked about as soon as she walked into the room, before she even got to know me, so I feel like she filed the prescription before she even met with me. I actually already take this vitamin, as I told her, so there was no need to get a prescription for it. Each time since then I have had to wait a considerable amount of time both in the waiting room and then again in the room. Once when I was 5 minutes late, they almost scolded me for it, but with the waiting experience I have had there before, I haven't seen the need to be on time only to wait there. For the last time, it took an hour just to have a med check - something that should've taken less than 15 minutes.

Unfortunately that's not the service I received…read more The reason I searched for a gynecologist, was because I had two serious UTIs and had two rounds of antibiotics a month apart. A developed what I thought was a yeast infection, my symptoms were a very sore rash, like a diaper rash on my vulva, and swollen painful lymph nodes in my groin. I took 3 day monistat and while the swelling in my lymph nodes went down, the rash persisted. I had no smell and no discharge. Just the rash. I tried plain yogurt on a tampon. Probiotics. Cut sugar grains and alcohol from my diet. Zinc oxide. Saltwater sitz baths. Nothing worked beyond temporary relief. I started developing unsightly varicose veins on my vulva as well as Angiokeratoma of Fordyce, which are flat black spots of pigmentation on the vulva. Obviously this was very concerning. I also developed "lightening crotch" which is when the pelvic floor randomly spasms and it feels like a sharp stabbing pain in the vagina/anus area. The staff when I scheduled an appointment were very nice and sympathetic. And the receptionist didn't bat an eye when I said I was a trans man. They were also lovely when I showed up for the appointment. However the wait times to see the Dr. were extremely long, I had scheduled the appointment with an hour and 15 minutes to get back to work. I wasn't seen for about 45 minutes past my appointment time, which made me pretty anxious, and worried about getting back to work. The Dr. Seemed to be in a mad rush. The exam was over so fast my head was spinning. He just said something about me looking "good" and prescribed me a single pill dose of antifungal medication as well as a topical steroid cream Clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate. I completely forgot all my questions I was going to ask about the new bulgy viens, black spots and pelvic floor spasms. As well as my concerns about the swollen lymph nodes because of how fast he was going and how worried I was about being late getting back to work. It's been a couple weeks. I never heard back with the results of the tests. And my rash is as bad as ever. I think the cream is making it even worse. I'm so raw it hurts to sit and I'm not sure what to do. It's been over a month that I've had this. I can't have sex. I'm very upset as anyone would be and feeling very dejected if even the gynecologist can't give me answers. To top it off, he seemed pretty ignorant about trans people and asked me unnecessary questions in my opinion about my transition. I just brushed it off, but like, you're a Doctor. I can't be the first trans patient he's ever had. Let's focus on the reason why I'm in office, not my trans status.

I see Dr Maude and my husband sees Dr Breiding - two of the nicest, most responsive and competent physicians as I have ever met. If one is actually ill, you get fit in to the schedule that very day! Sick on Saturday? On call MDs will tell you to come on over. Each MD has a nurse and a secretary. Ingrid and Robert are the nurses to our two doctors respectively. Each nurse could not be nicer. You are never kept waiting. Secretaries (mine is Linda) ALSO wonderful! These great folks make you feel comfortable and inspire confidence from the top down. Conveniently located on North Main Street near the Providence/Pawtucket line, there are parking lots on both sides of the building. I left a medical practice practically around the corner from my home in East Greenwich and choose to drive to North Main St to have these wonderful medical professionals take care of me! Five stars.

Dr. Behtash was recommended to me by my doctor at Memorial Hospital, Dr. Susanna Magee - who was my doctor for both of my pregnancies. I enjoyed Dr Magee's style, ease of emailing communication, and asked for her to recommend a local provider to be my regular physician. Dr. Behtash runs a micro office, which allows her to spend a ton more time with her patience -- you set up your appointments, and even email her through an app or online. This helps because she is the one who writes back to you - not a nurse! My first visit with her was about an hour. She took the time to truly understand me and my history, and has been incredibly kind at subsequent visits. She is young, knowledgable, warm, and welcoming - and I 100% recommend her to others! My husband just made the switch, and he said the quality of care was unlike anything he had ever experienced. And the best part - barely any waiting for my appointment!

More than 10 years ago, I retired as a Director of Product Development for a polymer company and…read moreone of my neighbors, who used to volunteer as a provider for the RI Free Clinic, asked me if I would be interested in volunteering as an interpreter for the Free Clinic since I spoke Spanish. My background as a Chemical Engineer made it easy to interpret Chemistry and Biology terms during the patient's visits. That was over 8 years ago and during all that time, I have not only served as a Spanish interpreter, but also as an Eligibility Screener. I have enjoyed working at the Clinic because all the people involved have a great heart and everyone at the Clinic has the same goal, to help the underserved and the underprivileged in Rhode Island. I remember interpreting for a female Social Work patient years back, that felt so comfortable with me that she asked the therapist to set up her appointments whenever I was volunteering. During those sessions, she opened up tremendously about her life struggles and the Social Work sessions ended up helping her to cope with her past and to help her face a more certain future. I have also interpreted for patients that started with AIC values in the 14-15 range and that have improved their diabetes and sugar levels by proper diet, nutrition, exercise and medicine. The improvement of health statistics is very common at the Free Clinic due to the care of our providers, nurses and specialists. I am very proud to be part of such an amazing non profit that does so much for the underpriviledged in Rhode Island.

The schedulers were not friendly, nor accommodating. The nurse had terrible bedside manner just barked orders with not a single smile or friendly approach. This is a peds clinic let me remind you, the nurses and schedulers need a lesson on customer service. Again Dr. Myatt herself was great but watch out for the schedulers and nurses. Tried to make a review for the practice but was unsuccessful.
