Billing department is awful. I asked questions that one lady couldn't answer so she put me on hold…read more Another woman answers the phone and is abrupt and short. She kept talking in circles, repeating the same sentence 3-4 times, kept saying "uh huh" real fast in the rude and annoyed way, and would not stop talking and making remarks long enough to allow me to ask my questions. I had to sit in silence to wait for her to finish her wildly unprofessional rambling. I asked her at least twice to please treat me with kindness and that I was a customer/client. I ended up in tears, feeling worthless. I've never been treated in such a way. No respect or care. I love my doctor there and the front desk has always been nice. Billing department needs intensive training in customer service and soft skills. Not everyone understands billing, they should be able to help customers understand and not get upset so easily. I am still in complete shock over that call.

The admin staff is the worst, which is a shame because I really like Sarah W Sherman, ACNP-BC …read more However, just last week I showed up for my appointment, which I received numerous email and text reminders, and was told Sharon was not there that day and someone was supposed to contact me but forgot. Of course this was after they collected my co-pay. There have been other appointment confusion in the past, as well as billing issues. I will be seeking a new gastroenterology practice.

If I could give zero stars, I would. AVOID this practice. I have been struggling for over 30 days…read morewith pain in my abdomen and because of Covid, I have had 2 televisits with the nurse practitioner, Stephanie. She did order labs which did not show anything abnormal. My GP order an ultrasound and CT which also was normal, but the pain has continued. On my last televisit, I requested a test to see if my gallbladder is working properly since this condition runs in my family with my grandmother, mother and aunt all having problems with their gallbladder not emptying fast enough and ultimately had to have theirs removed. My symptoms seem to be exactly what all 3 of them experienced and the NP only prescribed a new antacid. Needless to say, I will be seeking a new practice, but even after telling her that, it did not change her attitude.

I'd give zero stars if I could. For over twenty years I was with Dr. Gelrud he retired and I got…read moreswitched to Dr. Tanjan. Wow....what a difference having a senior physician who organized the practice years ago and this new hot shot who knows nothing. First he wanted to stop medication I'd been on for years because he didn't think it was necessary. When I objected he said he guessed it wouldn't hurt anything if I wanted to continue talking it. This past summer I had C-Diff after taking several antibiotics to clear up an infection. I lost 42 pounds in three months and I had to ask for nutritional supplementation, I was literally dying from malnutrition and infection in my intestines. Dr. Tanjan tried to say my Primary doctor need to prescribe nutritional supplementation. Which is not true, he's the GI specialist or is supposed to be. Too many phone calls without any return call to even mention. I ended up in ER @ Henrico Doctors Hospital. I was admitted and had emergency surgery to remove my intestines due to the damage the infection had done. I woke up with a colostomy bag on the right side and a feeding tube on the left side and staples down the middle of my abdomen. His associates were treating me while I was in the hospital. Apparently he only goes to St. Mary's. About two weeks after being discharged I got a letter from Dr. Tanjan discharging me as a patient because he couldn't get in contact with me and I missed an appointment (while being hospitalized) I immediately called to speak to his nurse who wouldn't talk to me because I was no longer a patient and I left (5) Five messages for the office manager to call me back. It's been over two months since my last message and I still haven't gotten a return call from the office manager. No need in discharging me as a patient I fire you as my doctor. Please beware of this practice. All they want is to have you come in for ten minutes and schedule you for a endoscopy and colonoscopy so they can bill your insurance. If you have serious GI issues that require constant management seek out a different practice. Unfortunately I've learned that my experience is the normal and not the exception for many patients at this practice. No matter which office you visit they are all the same.
