The dual zone heat in my 2003 Jeep was not functioning. I did a diagnostic code check to get more information and gave that information to the tech at Gateway Auto Tech to reduce troubleshooting time. The information I printed out and provided was ignored. I was called after they ripped my Jeep apart and was told there was a hole in my heater core. There wasn't . They broke a blender door in the process, then told me that was the cause of the problem. I knew that was not the case because I checked both blender doors before I brought it in. The error code said the recirculation door was broken and that's what I told them when I dropped the Jeep off. The blender doors are a poor design and break quite easily. I'm certain that's why they went to that, immediately. The original plastic doors were replaced by heavy duty, thick aluminum doors two years before I brought it in. After replacing the blender door they broke and charged me for, the problem wasn't resolved because the recirculation door was the one that was broken. So I had to pay for that as well. Overall, they were late in getting a phone call to me after they tore into the problem. They ignored the information I provided because they had preconceived notions. When their original diagnosis was wrong, they created the problem to justify charging me more money. They took 2 days longer to fix it than originally promised. Lying to me about an automotive repair is unacceptable. If I can't trust a mechanic I will never return and I will always tell others to avoid them. read more

In my opinion, these are the most trustworthy and honest mechanics in the area. We were referred to Gateway back in 2008 and have never had an unpleasant experience. On multiple occasions I have brought a vehicle in to have an issue checked and was told nothing needed attention and wasn't charged a dime. Just yesterday I found an unsettling pool of oil under my vehicle in my garage. I dropped it off this morning using their drop box and had it repaired and ready to pick up shortly after noon. Best of all, I was told since I had just had the vehicle in a few weeks ago for tires and brakes that there was no charge for this repair! I've always been made to feel like a valued customer and never being taken advantage of. Having routine maintenance such as an oil change done here has always been to my benefit (side note: their price for an oil change is comparable to those quick lube places and just as fast if you make an appointment). First, it's assuring having an excellent mechanic looking over my vehicle. Second, if there are a few issues found I can always count on an honest opinion as to its urgency. I never feel pressured into thousands of dollars of maintenance after a simple oil change. Fast, professional, honest, and courteous! Everything I've had worked on has been repaired without issue. I had nothing but a great experience with Gateway Auto Tech. My Mercedes ML350 engine light activated about a week ago. My code reader indicated a faulty thermostat. I then contacted the Mercedes dealership to get a quote for the repair. After gasping for air, I did a search for an auto repair specialist capable of repairing Mercedes in the Grand forks area. I called Gateway Auto Tech and was surprised how kind the intake fellow was. I gave him the code and he worked up a price half to what the Mercedes dealership quoted. My appointment was then scheduled at the exact time needed, which was really appreciated. Since the appointment could have taken as long as three hours, I asked if we could get a ride to one of the local businesses to kill a bit of time. The owner of Auto tech volunteered a loaner vehicle. When my wife and I came back to pick up our vehicle (on schedule), the repair cost was as quoted. Auto Tech personnel made the entire process easy and fun. It was five star service from the moment I put my foot in the door. I'm accustomed to repair work from a Mercedes dealership. Gateway Auto tech doesn't have the fancy amenities, but they sure have what counts when it comes to auto repair and customer service. Keep up the great work everyone. read more
