This is always our first stop when we vacation in the mountains each year, and for the past few, we've been saying we need to find somewhere else. But seriously, this visit was our last. This used to be the place that got some fairly unique bourbons, but that's really gone downhill, as has their beer selection. What's also gone downhill is their customer service. We were the only people in there on a Saturday afternoon (which should tell them something), spent $210, and got barely more than a grunt from the man who rang us up... who wasn't wearing a mask, even though there was a sign on the front door saying you couldn't enter without one. I felt like we were really putting him out spending money in there. We passed 3 other beer/liquor stores on the way into town, and next time, we'll stop at one of those. read more

My 23 year old son and I went here to purchase some bottles while we were in town to celebrate my retirement. The lady behind the counter was friendly and as we were checking out she asked for both of our IDs. Unfortunately my son left his wallet at the rental house and she refused the sale due to TN state law. I have no problem with this, but being unfamiliar with TN law, I asked what is the time frame for when I need to come back alone to make the purchase. This is when some extremely rude curly blonde older guy with his tight black T-Shirt starts grabbing our bottles and putting them back on the shelf acting like we ruined his day. He said you are on camera leaving so you can't come back today. There was one particular bottle that isn't easy to find so I asked if they could hold it until tomorrow. This same terrible guy says I can't hold it until you buy it. I said can I put a deposit on it and he said if I didn't like it, I can call the TN ABC Board. I asked him if he just wasn't interested in our business? He said the door clearly says no minors, I said my son is 23 he isn't a minor. This guy says without an ID he is a minor. I said I am not trying to be a problem I am just trying to understand the law. Then I asked if we come back tonight with his license can we purchase? He said yes but this was after he put everything back on the shelf. I am pretty sure he has small man syndrome or maybe he was bullied as a kid in school and this is his chance to be the big man. I felt sorry for the lady behind the counter, this dude is next level. So, I take my son back to the rental and we get his wallet. On the way back I had my son look up the reviews and one review after another describes the same scenario we experienced. I decided to drive an extra mile to the Parkway Liquor and ensured the two stores were not in business together. The ladies in this store told us they get this all of the time. Here is the best part. The bottle I wanted small rude guy to hold was $10 cheaper here and get this, this place had BLANTON'S on the shelf! So not only did the Jerk not get a penny of my money, Parkway Liquor not only got what I was going to spend a mile down the street, they got the extra big sale. If you chose to do business with the rude tight shirt curly blonde guy at Gatlinburg Package Store, then enjoy over paying and know that you are allowing a rude self centered egotistical person to remain in business. Staff is extremely friendly! Greeted as soon as we came in. Great selection to offer. Best prices in town I've found so far. I needed help finding something and the staff was on top of it and lead me straight to what I needed. Very knowledgeable. Clean store. Plenty of parking. It was a great and easy experience! So this is the second time this has happen to me at Gatlinburg Package store by the employee named Wayne. Well if you're a tribal member with a valid government ID he will refuse to accept it and call the cops on you. Even though the cops admit that it is a valid form of ID, they still said they would arrest me for disorderly conduct because I was on the property. Tennessee ABC says tribal is is legal form of ID. Went in with my two sons and shopped for almost 10 minutes. We are not from Tennessee, we are from Ohio, so we were not sure of the state laws. When I approached the man behind the counter he asked for both of their IDs. I told him they are clearly not 21, he told us that he cannot sell us the alcohol without everyone's identification being 21 or older. He then told me I could come back tomorrow and purchase the drinks without them. I asked if they could leave the store and I solely purchase the alcohol now. He proceeded to tell me that purchasing alcohol isn't a joke and that I should leave their store. Maybe tell me that when I walk into the store with my two kids instead of doing it when I'm ready to purchase????? Head down to Parkway Liquor Store, they will treat you better! read more

This location sucks! They had a box of great bourbon sitting on the floor in an office close to the front door. I ask if any of that was available for sale . The person at the register with a terrible attitude simply said abruptly "it's not for sale". I said then why do you have it? He said " irrelevant not for sale". Odd for a state run ABC store?? Every time I've gone in this store, I feel like the employees creepily follow you around the store...but never ask if you need help with anything. I'd always overlooked it, but today I had a really poor interaction with one of the "managers." I was basically charged twice for the same item (because of their card machine). He was rude and didn't help me resolve this issue at all. All I got was, "I don't know what you want me to do about it buddy?!" I want you to not charge me twice... pretty simple! Coming from the west coast, still trying to adjust that liquor is sold separate from beer. Only gripe I truly have is that they have the power to jack up the prices. However, they usually have a great selection and multiple wines to browse through as well. This store is very neat and employees are very friendly. Right away there was a hostile vibe as soon as I walked into the store with my 20 year old daughter and sister. Three employees were there- 2 men and a woman. We were the only customers in the store which is not very big. It was obvious that we were being watched the whole time like common criminals. We weren't dressed suspiciously- just three women looking for wine. My sister has stage 4 lung cancer and wanted a particular bottle of wine that she couldn't find anywhere else. She didn't know the name so she asked one of the men standing by the wall for help and described the shape and color of the bottle. He acted obviously put out and didn't bother to walk around the store to help her find it- he only replied "I need more information than that." We ended up finding it ourselves just a minute later while he continued his job of holding up the wall and watching us like we were about to hold up the store. My daughter was holding one of the two bottles of wine that I was purchasing and put it on the counter. The rude little man behind the counter asked for her ID and I said I'm buying this and he refused to sell it to me because she put the bottle on the counter and wasn't 21. I was irritated about it but thought ok my fault, I guess I shouldn't have let her take it up to the counter but it's never been a problem in any other liquor store we've ever been in. He then refused to sell my sister her bottle of wine even though it was a completely separate transaction. I wouldn't be mad about the refusal to sell to us if the experience from the moment we walked in hadn't been so terrible. I've never walked into a store before and felt so unwelcome and watched like we were about to steal. Now after reading these reviews I know our feelings are valid as it seems this is the normal way they treat their customers. The rude "man" behind the counter could have handled things in a more polite manner but instead he elected to go the asinine route which is more than likely his everyday attitude. I wouldn't step foot in this liquor store again if it was the last place in the world to buy a bottle of wine. Do yourself a favor and find a different place so you don't have to experience this bad vibe during a time when you are trying to have fun and relax while on vacation. That's highly unusual that no one said hello, and as for the beer selection well that's because the laws are different in TN. it requires a totally different license to carry most beers. This is the worst place to buy alcohol. Was visiting from out of town and had to come here since it was the only place open and close to where we were staying. As soon as my friends and I Care in, another employee came and started looking at us. One of my friends asked if they had a trash can to throw something away. He stated there was one outside behind the building. Seriously??????? Then as my friend checked out, the change she was receiving had dropped on the counter and instead of the cashier picking it up, he made her do it. We then asked, do you not like black people?? He didn't want to touch our hand or anything. I had to show my Id and he looked as though he was afraid to touch my phone case. I sure wish some additional liquor stores would open around here. I wouldn't give another penny for this store to remain open. You ask the employees what is the best type of moonshine and they act as though I'm bothering them. There is almost no beer or wine in the place, and the liquor is all definitely more expensive than normal. They have the big name brands, but only at a 25-30% mark-up. Also, it's way better to buy your mixers elsewhere. They don't have much other than your typical colas. read more

When we visited the package store, not a single employee out of the four or five that were there said hello or asked us if we needed help. The beer selection is nearly non-existent, and the prices of wine are outrageous. One wine that I often buy at home (in Chicago) for around $18-$20 was priced $30 here. Outrageous! The store is clean and has an okay selection. However, the prices are through the roof and I was surprised by the unfriendliness of the staff. I have lived in Tennessee for the past 20 years, and I can honestly say that most of the time you will not find friendlier people anywhere in the world. There was NO Southern hospitality at this store. We got there 30 minutes before closing, and my husband and I felt like they wanted us to hurry and get out. Went in this store at 10 till 11. Already knew what I was going to get so it wouldn't take me long at all. I walk to the door and all they can say is "You better hurry up we are closing soon."
