Wonderful steak restaurant. Great location next to the river. 6 of us went for lunch, and had the lunch menu. Between us we tried virtually everything on the menu. Presentation was excellent and service was attentive. My ceviche appetizer was nice, with a spicy kick, main course of steak and fries was great, and desert of tarte tatin helped me exceed my calorie quota for the day. We were here for a work dinner, large group on a Monday night. I was very impressed with the serving staff as they were easily able to handle us all; no one's drinks were ever empty and plates were constantly moving. They were excellent hosts. Food was really nice as well, everyone commented how full they were when they left - and then some! We had a preset menu of appetizer, main, and dessert options to choose from. My wife and I went today for our anniversary. Let's start with the positives: Location is a 5 . We ate outside on a lovely deck by the river. It was chilly. But there were plenty of infrared heaters and blankets. Hostess was accommodating and friendly. Same for host. Service was very good with the exception of a long wait after we asked for the bill. Approximately 20 minutes. In the end the host brought it . Food: we ordered the sausage starter sea bass , burger and sweet potato brocalli and spinach as sides. Sea bass was served whole but headless with a charred lemon garnish. It tasted fine but resembled a decapitated carcass... I think a whole fish should be served with its head. Spinach was superb. Broccoli was very undercooked, Al dente is fine but this was warm raw with oil and breadcrumbs. Sweet potatoes were ok. Sausage starter was plentiful but mostly picante sausage. I would have preferred a more balanced mix of the three instead of 60 pct picante , 20 pct plain( white) and 20 pct blood. My burger was ridiculous. One of the smallest burger patties I have ever been served. Meat was cold and very rare inside despite being told in advance by server that burgers were only served cooked completely through. Bun was great perfectly toasted and assembled but sadly no meat in it. I would guess it was less than 4 0z before cooking . I have been a gaucho regular for decades on Swallow street and in the City. I have had a gaucho burger before and this wasn't up to the standard at other branches.. I was also surprised that when the host collected my plate and saw three quarters of a bun uneaten, he didn't ask if everything was ok..... My wife had a glass of champagne she said it wasn't very good. Staff gave us a complementary dessert for our anniversary which was a nice touch and much appreciated. I remember a long time ago a journalist reviewed the original Gaucho on Swallow street they referred to it as a Vegetarians vision of hell. This branch has a great setting and great staff interacting with customers but someone needs to teach the chef how to make a burger. I have ordered hundreds over the years and while tasty it was one of the smallest I have ever had. It was slightly larger than a White Castle slider and smaller than a McDonald's standard burger , all bun little meat cold and overly rare inside. Enough said we had a good time but won't go back. Not a cheap place either I left hungry and paid 119 pounds including service for lunch this included one bottle of sparkling water and a glass of champagne someone needs to sort out the kitchen read more

Part of a chain of restaurants this one has a really nice setting on the River Thames at Richmond just yards along the towpath from the bridge. Wonderful outside dining area and an ultra modern glass fronted restaurant make this a great place for that special dinner or occasion. Upscale and expensive food coupled with good wines and a cocktail bar will turn that special occasion into to an amazing one. Choose the actual cut of beef that you want and then tell them how you would like it, sit back and relax over a glass of wine or a cocktail and wait for it to arrive. Alternatively they do a bar menu and burgers etc but all this comes at a cost, For me it is for special occasions or when I have money to burn, Therefore I won't choose a burger however good it is. You will struggle to find a better steak in London. This branch of Gaucho Grill is ideally situated by the Thames with glass walls providing an uninterrupted view of the river, and with a lovely outdoor seating area for when the weather permits. This is a fantastically atmospheric place to go for dinner, with a delicious selection of food on offer. It would be a great shame to come here and not order a steak, but they do offer some good alternatives. The staff are very knowledgeable, taking the time to explain the different cuts of beef on offer. There is not one dish on the menu I would not recommend, but my absolute favourite has to be the bife de lomo, a silky soft fillet steak, accompanied by humitas, a wonderful puree of sweetcorn wrapped and roasted in plantain leaf. The wines and cocktails on offer are just as tantalising as the steak. read more

me no likey ....no me gusta :( Now Gaucho Manchester is a 'go to' for me but this prettily situated Richmond Riverside establishment with all its Black & Chrome, low lit, crowded and extremely noisy dining space is way too pricey and completely outclassed by their Amigo's in the North West. I get what previous reviewers have said and took it as read that I would enjoy going here but nope, never happened. I think it says it all for a spot that specialises in meat when the best dishes we had on the night were all composed of everything but meat... The Humista, Salmon Ceviche and Mozzarella Empanadas ...were good indeed and worthy of 5* ...but the Churrasco de Lomo @ £40.95, before you even start to add any sides, was average at best and the tail ends were overcooked to the point that they were actually tough and what really racked me off was the insipid Caipirinha I started the evening with, a sign of things to come as it turned out. Other things that did not appeal... the service was erratic and one of our servers dumped the individually ordered starters in the middle of the table and flounced off as if she had just smelled a fart?! We spent most of the evening trying to grab the attention of passing waiters and the bloke who originally looked like he was assigned to us spent a large part of his shift fire fighting far too many other tables. They look seriously understaffed. I hope things do pick up here as it's in a beautiful location alongside the river Thames and on some warm Summer evening the outside patio would probably be worth a visit but I was left with the serious impression of a place that is more aucho! than gaucho ... read more

What a disappointment. My husband and I love Gaucho and frequent the branch at The O2, where we eat before concerts and events. When a friend wanted to meet somewhere in Richmond for lunch, I thought Gaucho would be the perfect spot. It's in a gorgeous location, and we were at on the deck. It soon became apparent that although the deck was full of patrons, most of them were unhappy by the amount of sun beating down on them. The restaurant should definitely invest in some sun umbrellas! People were constantly moving their chairs, relocating their tables, and holding their hands up to shade their eyes. It didn't make for a great ambiance. My friend was running late, so I ordered a bloody mary as a rare lunchtime treat. It was very tasty, but had strange hunks of basil in it, that kept clogging up the straw. And... why were they in there? When the waitress took our order, she immediately pointed out that the one dish I wanted (which contained crab) was not available. So, my friend and I both said we would have the burger (£15.95). The waitress said that we must be aware that Gaucho only cooks burgers one way: Well Done. What? Is this not a steakhouse that deals in RAW MEAT every day? If they are that worried about health and safety, should we avoid the steaks as well? OK so I said fine, and we ordered the burgers (against my better judgement). When they arrived, they were, as expected, completely WELL DONE and therefore, like eating burned rubber. The bun was so fluffy that it flaked away, sending an errant piece of fluff down my throat and me into a choking spasm. We both finally gave up on the useless bun and ate the burger alone with knife and fork. For some reason, although my dining companion is a rugby-shaped guy who's 6'2", the waitress continuously ignored his requests. It actually became a joke - he decided he must be wearing his Cloak of Invisibility. What? So, all in all, it was a fairly standard meal, executed poorly, with pretty terrible service. When you charge prices like this, I don't expect the world's most amazing meal, but I expect that at least the chef is skilled enough to cook food properly. Disregarding the price, The steak is the best I've ever eaten. We come here every year when we decide to go to UK for vacation, and have sampled all of its cuts. The special marinade they have here is what brings the Aberdeen Angus, the wine, and their wide array of sides together in harmony. Definitely recommend if you ever feel like going to Richmond. The restaurant itself is clean, with an outdoor section for people who decide to do lunch. I've lived in Twickenham and Richmond my entire live and this is, by a long shot, the best restaurant. It's perfectly located on the Thames riverside with a view of Richmond Bridge a short stroll away and the food and atmosphere is excellent. It's a steak house so expect steak. If this isn't your thing then you've come to the wrong place. However, there is an excellent Salmon dish that's worth a go. They've got a range of very tasty sides and the meat selection is varied. In fact, the selection process is something in itself, they bring all their cuts out on a big chopping board and describe each of their pros and cons. I don't drink wine but the waiter suggested a red that he thought would compliment our meals which I fell in love with and have every time I go back. Like others that have reviewed it, I use this restaurant for special occasions. It's classy, the food's great (really great), scenery is good, service is excellent, and once your belly is full they'll even drive you along the towpath to Richmond bridge in their golf buggy. You'll need to brace yourself for the bill though, because it'll be big. And you can't save dosh by avoiding service charge because the service is great, you'll probably even feel like tipping more than you usually would. Despite the size of the bill, it's worth it for a special occasion and you come away from it feeling that you got value. You might even feel like you owe them a 5 star review on Yelp. read more

The other reviewers have summed up Gaucho perfectly. It is very good food, brilliant setting, good service, lovely wine etc etc but it is just a bit too pricey for what it is. I have been 5 or 6 times - only a couple booking myself - and have always had a good time, - but always felt that for £60-70 per head for steak however good is overcharging by 10 or so pounds. It is one of the best restaurants in Richmond, no doubt, but with these prices I just feel that they put themselves into a bracket of restaurants that are better than them. However if you have money and want to eat in Richmond at lovely location then it is hard to beat. read more

Part of the Gaucho's chain, which I believe is the same as the ones in Amsterdam. Great selection of steak cuts and very good sides as well. Great wine selection, and I remember the cocktails being quite good too. The setting is on the bank of the Thames, so if you're looking to impress and are not shy to give the credit card a bit of a pasting, this is definitely a stylish venue to go to. When you have greeters taking people's coats at the door and charge outrageous prices for your food you need to step it up and have waiters who know the menu and are personable. This place is nothing more than manufactured pomp in a beautiful setting. The worst part is that the manager came over and told us - not even apologetically - that'd we need to vacate the table because they have another party arriving. I eat at more restaurants than are good for my bank balance, well at least enough to know what to expect for seventy quid a head (incl tip, wine, etc.) in this part of the world and Gaucho's falls short. At fifty quid I would have been satisfied and rated this 'A-OK' (three stars) but without a change in ambience never more than that. - While the quality of the ingredients was good, it's over priced (even for Richmond). - I liked the wine selection but as a bit of a Malbec aficionado felt the sommelier was pushing more expensive wines over the best value choices. - We booked a table with a view and walked right past two empty ones on our way to a dark corner right at the back, being told there were none available despite booking a few weeks ahead. Of course, by the time the manager came over to explain the previously empty tables were filled by other people. - Staff have attitude, with the kind of the over confidence of extremely good looking young people who really shouldn't be working in a service job. I think I'd like this restaurant more 10 years ago when I was in my twenties and booked restaurants as much to be seen as to be fed. The food is good but for me the ambience undermined the overall experience. This is part of a chain and I'm told the Gauchos in town have the same good food plus a much improved ambience. If you're looking for a special evening out it you might have a better time heading towards Piccadilly . I have to say, many of the younger diners seemed to be having a great time. We, on the other hand, will be checking out many of the other really good restaurants London boasts instead. read more

A well-kept secret, Richmond's edition of the popular Gaucho has perched itself just by the waterside, under a massive oak tree (is it an oak tree? My herbology isn't up to scratch). It has lovely seating both indoors and outdoors, with wall-to-wall windows making a glorious change from the usual Gaucho styling (underground, dark, romantic). Possibly the brightest of the Gaucho cousins, I would strongly recommend this one for a romantic dinner this summer, while the weather is good. In the winter, it should also be lovely, but I doubt you'll make it there in time to watch the sun set at that time of year! read more

Had a really enjoyable time here. I love a good steak and this place does them soooo well. You can choose from all manner of cuts, and as with all good steak restaurants you get to see the cuts first. You can also choose weight - they even go up to 1kg, but 300g is more than enough! I had the fillet, rare, and it was extroardinary - melt in the mouth gorgeous. My wife had the marinaded sirloin and that was delicious too. The restaurant is kitted out like a nightclub - all black surfaces, funky furniture, moody lighting and pumping music. I'm sure the last Gaucho Grill I went to was more like a wild west cantina!! Anyway, they do a good line in Ceviche (marindaded raw fish) too plus if steak's not your thing there's plenty of other things on the menu. It seems to average out at around £40/head upwards, so not a destination for the casual diner. Its also tucked away on its own on the banks of the Thames with no direct car access. Food presentation was great and the meat nice and tender cooked to the point i requested. Unfortunately the potato mash was powder base which i didnt like at all. This restaurant is great. It is overlooking the Richmond Riverside. It is spacious inside and has a sophisticated bar to sit at whilst you wait to for your friends or just to sit at. It is a dark atmosphere with star type lights in the ceiling. The food is minimal but very tasty and well cooked. You can choose your steaks and the size and how you want it cooked. I chose a chorizo steak and it was very tasty. You have to order vegs on the side and as extra. If you are expecting a big meal, this is not the place for you. I was impressed the way the brought the meats out on display to your table and showed you them, so you can choose. Expect this to be pricey, but you certainly get value for money, with the food, view and service. read more

The waiter brings the various cuts of meat to the table and explains what each is, a nice touch. Don't come here if you have children to feed, as there is no child menu, and there are no child friendly dishes on the menu either. I also object to bottled water being brought to the table without asking, and them being charged £4 for it! However, the food is of very good quality, but expensive, with the need for ordering any side dishes required as none are included with the main dishes. Absolutely adore this place. Gaucho Richmond is by far the best Gaucho around. Far enough out of the town you get a lovely secluded atmosphere. If you don't want to walk the toe path along the river they can arrange for a golf buggy to pick you up from outside the slug and lettuce and drop you back after. Worst gaucho in London period. The chairs was dirty and ruined my brand new AJ jeans which the restaurant manager(Tw*t) refunded me a lousy £20 for dry cleaning. This is not gaucho like I know. Ordered the Sirloin that is marinated 48hrs in garlic, parsley and oil. I chose a peppercorn mushroom dipping sauce. I asked for medium rare and that was how it came, nice and pink on the inside while outside is caramelized. Probably the best meal I had since being in London. read more

Booked a month in advance of returning to the UK after having lived in Richmond in 2010. An excellent memory from 5 years ago, wanting to do it all again. They were very accommodating of several changes to our schedule. Food was delicious, but not worth the pounds. Dinner for 6 ended at $270/couple. At that price point there's little flexibility for subpar product. The churasco was maybe 5% exquisite, 60% very good, 25% mediocre, 10% unenjoyable. Their frites (both ways) are simplistic - not a delicious country style, just simplistic. The haricots were so so. Wine was good to go, although the red was served right out of the cellar - again, a massive failure for this caliber of restaurant (supposedly). Customer service: this was a one-off situation, but it highlights a lack of experience and competence. We were seated for dinner adjacent to a table of 5 gentlemen who'd had lunch and remained drinking for hours. They were unruly only in voice initially, but as our meal progressed their antics did as well. The restaurant was vigilant, yet continued to serve them. The table sent us a bottle of sparkling wine, and the restaurant took that as assurance we had nothing to be concerned about. The manager never spoke to us, apologized, or made any effort to check in on us. A waitress apologized after one of the gentlemen fell out of his chair. The bartenders laughed after another stumbled out onto the porch, spilling his wine all over himself. As a family we tried to play it all off not to ruin our evening, but we were all disappointed that our expectations for a lovey night out, away from the kiddos, at a purportedly and previously very nice restaurant was tantamount to a night at Chili's. In a situation like this, you might expect to be comped a portion or all of your meal. Gaucho made no effort to compensate for the terrible meal. read more

The Richmond Gaucho is the best Gaucho, in my opinion. We only go after nightfall. This time of year it is usually packed since they have a huge deck right by the Thames. I'd recommend getting reservations. That being said we have never had reservations (we eat out a lot and always go spur of the moment) and have always been able to get seated within twenty minutes time - just long enough to enjoy a glass of wine from their excellent wine list. They start you with a delicious basket of varied breads - my favorite roll is the one made with yucca flour. Dipped in a chimichurri so fresh and delicious that it makes your mouth water just thinking about it. The first time we went to Gaucho, my husband complimented the chimichurri to the waiter so eloquently that the waiter went to the kitchen to ask the chef to write down the recipe for us. As busy as it was - that was a nice surprise. And how optimistic of my husband to think we might actually eat in someday and resort to using the recipe rather than just walking down to Gaucho! So naive and optimisitic it's just adorable. I cannot say enough about their charrasco chorizo and garlicy spinach. It is wonderful. Not the priciest piece of beef on the menu but certainly my favorite. My husband usually gets a fish dish and is pleased. He hates fancy high priced restaurants and definitely had a mug on his face when I said I wanted to go to Gaucho to celebrate the night we moved here to Richmond. Now he is happy to go here with me despite it definitely being on the pricier side. read more

For all you steak lovers out there, you have to come to Gaucho. Argentinian steaks have never tasted better. Everything about the restaurant is wonderful, from the decor to the service. The steaks are cooked to perfection and of course to your chosing and the cost is incredibly reasonable! Fora meal for two with a decent bottle of wine we paid approximately £90. This included starters, mains + sides and coffee. Recommend the steaks which have been hung and marinated for a period of time. Good place for a business dinner, any form of celebration and most certainly dates! read more
