At the beginning, I told Rex that I wanted to protect my military retirement and my ex could have the house. He immediately said to me, why should she except that. He wanted me to offer her more. Every time I went to his office and spoke to him about something I wanted, he would counter with what I was going to do for my ex. I felt really uncomfortable with this guy and sought another legal team. Other teams were way out of my price range because of where we were in the case (10,000 down and monthly payments). I was stuck. A year in to this, Rex brought me into the office to sign an agreement. I told him I did not want to pay her lawyer any money (15,000). He convinced me that if I did not agree, then we would have to go to court and I would lose because it was something I said I would do earlier in the negotiations. But that was based on me keeping my military retirement. He also told me that it would cost me a lot more money. So I signed the agreement. He had a notary standing by and had her notarized the document really fast. I left his office angry and I felt betrayed. I was then sent an email that saved my ex did not agree to the terms. So I responded back "f" it. Then let a judge decide who gets what. A day or so later, I can not remember, I received another email saying she agreed to the terms. I reminded him about the email I sent him. By this time I refused to talk to this guy. The next time I saw him was in court. I would not talk to him and I did not shake his hand when he reached out. I did not know we were in court to argue me paying the 15k to her lawyer. My fault I guess because I did not was to talk to this guy any more. That 5 min argument between counsel cost me an additional 1600 dollars. So I had to pay that, gave up my house, half my military retirement, half my current pension, have my 457 retirement, and received nothing in return. I felt like he just wanted to get the case over and not there to give me good advice. I am not saying this is not a good law firm. I do not know. In fact, they have been in business for a while, which tells me they are probably a very good law firm. Rex is also probably a very good lawyer. I just do not feel he gave me his best foot forward representing me.

This can be a good thing, yet how do you narrow down your search, to find the right one? There is the net, sources offline to find lawyers, and even word of mouth. Rarely do I give anyone or anything five stars here. Yet I'm proud of what Dan has done for me, in a rather unusual family case, and am glad to give him a complete recommendation. He covers all areas of the law, but is knowledgeable, easy to communicate with, and is also extremely bright. Dan found information that other attorneys didn't, and he is the best guide for you with the Virginia court system. That alone is a jungle. Not sure if it's because of commonwealth laws or what, but Dan is able to wade through the minutiae quickly. This sharpness is guaranteed to help you, as you want top notch legal support for important matters in the ride of life. I would say hire him, but if you do visit lawyers to decide which one, please add him to your list. He is very responsible, as well as being responsive. I like his demeanor in and out of court. He's a family man, and this comes in handy too, as the way he handles information and witnesses is comprehensive. If you need a lawyer, this is the one you should have in your corner. He has impeccable communication skills, and also is incredible calming clients down. Court is a stressful place. I cannot lie, as having been through other challenges, this case has been up there with overall concerns. Dan has moved mountains, even in covid, to make sure that one person was going to be in the best situation possible. That alone is peace of mind, and things are better due to Dans efforts. Definitely in your search whether criminal or civil cases, this is one attorney you'll want to consider in your and this is meant, vital search for your or others best interests being represented. I've worked with other attorneys, and Dan got results, which is very impressive. Thank you to Dan, as he makes sure your interests are represented fully, and he's no empty suit when it's court time.
