And so it began, he took us to smaller wineries with excellent products, good pricing, customer oriented and less crowded. Not a single tourist trap. Zak even put up with me pestering him about the bus, the motor, the restoration - I'm a bike and car nut. He even showed me his friend's beautiful european sports car at one winery.. nice! :) This classic VW Westfalia bus has complete charm, a few rattles, old school seat belts, a few bumps on the stone road and cool tunes; she showed us girls old school cool. This ride was exactly what we hoped for, we loved that we could visit, not sit there listening to some over the top driver bugging us with a bunch of chit chat stories, bragging tales of the area or taking over our day; he just let us have fun and relax. In some of the other reviews they wanted more chit chatty tour guide, not us, we want laid back and not trying to struggle talking to each other over a tour guide. We preferred that the wineries give us the tour we wanted and information at each stop. Zak was so polite, very responsive to answered to winery, sites and local questions we had. We enjoyed that he opened the door for us and took us into the wineries and introduced us to the folks there. The folks at the wineries treated us wonderfully and they seemed to be friends with Zak we felt they went out of the way to take care of us. Overall, I have told everyone I meet that this is the way to tour if you are into laid back, peaceful rides with great places to visit. First off, let me say that it is an absolute must to go with a tour company. There's literally over 100 different wineries in the region so you definitely need someone to help bring you to the best ones. I mean... who wants to drive and follow waze when you can chill out in the back, laugh, and blast your music while someone else does the driving? I think it's a bonus that they allow you to play ur iPhone over the bus speakers so that you can jam out to your own stuff. We got Dave as our driver and he was patient, super duper friendly, and never made us feel "rushed". He was on our schedule as opposed to other tours that I been on where you're being herded like cattle. I think he kinda chuckled when my playlist when from some hardcore rap to the spice girls. What can I say? I'm well rounded. I highly recommend having a decent breakfast before setting out on a full day of wine tasting. It definitely helps get you going for the day. We went during peak travel season so it was pretty busy. But the weather was amazing and the views breathtaking. Worth every penny (and they are inexpensive!) We met this lovely couple on the tour who told us to try the winter off-season when it's less crowded so that we can have meet and chat with the winemakers themselves during our tasting. I've never done wine tours in the winter so we'll definitely be back next time and make a nice ski trip out of it as well.

Here's what you're getting at…read morethe Rustic Log Cabins on the Leidenfrost Vineyard: - Beautiful views of the lake (not sure if you can get to the lake from the cabins, we accessed the lake through a friend's house on the water.) - Peaceful - A one minute walk to the Liedenfrost Winery (it's literally right next door) - Your own private cabin with a fridge, two beds (our's had one single and one queen), dressers, table, chairs, porch with rocking chairs, and a picnic table. - Communal bathroom - like at a campground. - Across the street is Curtan's (?) Market - Cheese, hot sauces, produce, ice, and sandwiches. - No Wi-Fi - BUGS - bring A LOT of bug spray. The bugs will crowd around your door while you're inside at night. If you have to leave while it's dark, we learned the trick of turning the lights off at first, letting most of the bugs leave the door, then running out! (This was the number one con for us.) - Bring flashlights!! - You have to bring your own sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, etc. Approach the log cabins like you're going camping. If you hate camping and bugs, then there are plenty of hotels. But if you love to camp, like me, you'll enjoy this place. It's inexpensive and would be great for a group of friends to rent out all the cabins.

We rented out all four of the cabins, which meant we did not have to share the bathrooms with other groups and we were able to be a little louder than what you would expect at a state park camping grounds. The cabins were pet friendly, and Jackie was so kind, telling me to be careful around the road (route 414) because a lot of people speed/whip right by. Cabins: The cabins were very quaint. My group went camping at a state park last year and had a blast. A lot of people thought the cabin would be too much, but they were perfect. We all had enough room to sleep on a bed, had electricity to charge our phones, and refrigerators to keep our beverages and leftover food from lunch and dinner cold. Each cabin had their own picnic table and bonfire. We just made one bonfire and moved a table over to accommodate all the people we had. There were stoves in the cabins, but we did not use them. There was firewood provided, which was very nice. Communication: Jackie was very easy to contact. We made our reservations two months in advance, and we kept in contact until the day of our arrival. She sent me a reminder in the mail, stating the remaining balance on a little brochure that stated more information about the cabins. I contacted her five days before our reservation confirming our arrival time and she promptly responded. When we arrived the day of our reservation, the cabins were clean and ready to go. She met us at the cabins and gave us a lot of suggestions as to where to go around the area. I would definitely recommend staying at these cabins if you are looking for a happy medium between camping and a hotel. My group loves the outdoors, so being able to have a bonfire and watch the stars at night was simply perfect!

Saturday morning Jen made a wonderful frittata with sweet potatoes, bacon and garlic. To. Die. For. Then Sunday she made a perfect French toast casserole from Challah bread. Keep in mind, she sources nearly all of her ingredients from local farms, wineries, and coffee roasters to ensure fresh, tasty foods! The house has two porches, an enormous master bath, and a beautiful fire pit with seating and all the wood you can burn. We easily fit four cars in the driveway. The property is home to a LOT of wildlife. I saw bullfrogs, Muscovy Ducks, cats, skunks, squirrels, and numerous other birds. A member of our party even saw a black bear cub! Oh, and the raspberries and blackberries that Ed grows on the property were delicious. All the houses on the property are connected by a short, well-maintained trail system. There are several benches, picnic tables and even a few fire pits within the trail system, which also has built in lighting if you want to venture out at night! My highlight was enjoying my coffee while listening to a chorus of birds and frogs at the duck pond one morning. A brilliant way to start one's day!
