Radon Installation Contractors - Replacement radon fan that Ric installed same day I called

    Radon Installation Contractors

I recently decided to tackle our radon levels and purchased a monitoring device. Initially, I found…read morethat the readings fluctuated between 2 pci/l and 4 pci/l, especially with the basement window open. After a heavy rain, I was alarmed to see the levels spike to 9 pci/l. Since we have a room converted into a remote office in the basement, resolving the radon issue became a priority. After doing some research, I discovered that Ric had a remarkable number of 5-star reviews compared to other companies, so I reached out to him and set up an appointment. Ric showed up right on time at 8:00 AM and got straight to work. The first thing he did was identify the best spot in our unfinished basement for drilling a hole. He chose a discreet location behind the laundry room door, ensuring it wouldn't be noticeable. Ric then carefully brought in several buckets of gravel and soil under the slab, installed a white PVC pipe, and extended it into the garage. From there, he routed the pipe up into the attic and out through a small hole drilled in the siding of the house. He worked diligently for six hours and did an impressive job. Ric made sure to clean up thoroughly after finishing, and he sealed the slab crack with specialized radon chalk. The next day, with the basement door and windows tightly shut, I was thrilled to see the radon levels drop to sub-zero. I monitored the readings for three weeks, and they remained consistently low. I can't believe Ric doesn't have even more 5-star reviews; he truly did an outstanding job!

They came before the end of the day on a Friday. So far so good. The field reps told us the price would be $7000 to do the work then given it'd be after hours and $4500-$5000 to do it on Monday. My wife and another person heard the field rep say this at least twice. We decided to wait until Monday to save the money for the owner of the house. When I called Monday we were told it'd be $7000. I asked David who is the estimator why they weren't honoring the lower price of $4500-5000. He told me it was because that's what the paperwork said. He said he couldn't do anything about it so I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told there wasn't anyone but him. I asked to speak to an owner he said he'd leave a message and ask the owner to call. The owner didn't call so I got his # and called him. His name is Dennis. He said he appreciated the information and expressed disappointment with his internal team at not advising him, he said he'd look into it and get back to me. He didn't call back so I sent him a text 2 days later and received a callback saying he had a family issue. Rather than address the pricing double speak his vm said the final bill may be less than $7000. After the cleanup work was done which took 4-5 hours with 2 men who left 15 fans for 3 days we were told an estimator would call to schedule an appointment to do the carpet, laminate and baseboard repair. After not hearing from them I called and was told by David that no one could do the work for 3-4 months. I contacted the owner about it and heard crickets. Whether the company is a film flam operation taking advantage of insurance money I don't know it is certainly possible. $7000 to be on site for 4-5 hours and leave 15-20 fans unattended for 3 days seems over the top. The bait and switch on the quotes, the 3-4 month lead-time to do repairs and the flakey behavior by the owner are serious warning signs to stay away.

After the job was "completed", I paid to get it retested and it STILL tested positive, failing the remediation! I called ARG back again to correct the problem, but the mold problem continued to test positive, after calling them back a third time. As part of their remediation they were to clean out the air duct system inside the house. Due to the fact they continue to fail the air tests, (AFTER I HAVE PAID FOR THE AIR QUALITY RETESTS GOING ON 4 TIMES at $400 per test), I had to hire a different company to come out for testing and identify what could be causing the air quality tests to fail. Upon that investigation, with another company, it was revealed that the coils on the air handler inside the house were never cleaned and STILL contained lots of visible mold. These coils are connected to the air ducts in the house so how can just cleaning the air ducts and not the coils eliminate any mold in the air duct system!?! Not to mention mold was also found to be still present in the air ducts as well. As part of the remediation, ARG was to re-tile the upstairs master bath. The tiling job was less than satisfactory and definitely poor workmanship. There are now cracked tiles, tiles are popping out, the grout lines are horrendous - especially in the corners of the shower, they did not caulk the shower door to prevent water from getting behind the frame, and grout at the bottom of the shower is all over the shower base. Definitely does not look like the professional job I paid good money to have done. Overall I am extremely unsatisfied with the services rendered by this company and would not recommend them to anyone looking for mold remediation, especially since they failed to re-mediate the issue in my basement.

I would strongly recommend this company. I contacted several NRPP certified radon service providers, and Tommy's initial response stood out. He followed-up with both a phone call and an email, asking detailed questions about my home. He also said that he had installed a radon system in a house on my street, which told me he stood by his work. Tommy visited the house to provide a free estimate, and he found that we happened to have a "passive" radon mitigation system which the previous owners had apparently installed. Tommy took a day to think about the project, and he offered two estimates: one to convert the passive system to an "active" system, and another to install a new system altogether. I appreciated that Tommy carefully evaluated my house, to the point that he found the passive system and offered that cheaper conversion option in addition to the altogether new system. We ended up going with the new system to avoid any unexpected complications, and because we knew the new system was fairly priced. I needed the work to be done quickly and during a specific time period, which Tommy accommodated. Tommy and his crew (his father-in-law and brother-in-law) left the house the way they found it, and the radon ventilation gutter on the outside of the house is as aesthetically pleasing as possible. As far as post-testing, they left a monitor in the house for a couple of days, and then they sent me results which showed a significant reduction. In addition, I also own my own radon monitor (an Airthings), which had shown an eight-week average above 4.0 before the system was installed. Within days of the radon mitigation service being turned on, the average had gone down to just above 1.0. These guys were a pleasure to work with and talk to, they offered a fair price which I ran by other contractors, and they did good work which I independently verified with my own monitoring device. I fully endorse Atlantic Real Estate Services.
