Big Tex Burger was the best and largest I have had in recent memory. Hand made and cooked when ordered. I will make a short detour next trip for the BURGER! I came for their Christmas Eve prime rib buffet. I thought it was delicious. You have to ask if you want a rare prime rib slice, the prime rib on the bar is over cooked. It's also brought out with no au jus so make sure you get some. Service was friendly and attentive. read more

With all honesty, Gedney's is the only place in Roanoke to eat. Good people, good food and good Tea!

We ate lunch at Gedney's on Thanksgiving because my husband had to work. The food was so delicious! Our server who so sweet and attentive. It was crowded but they handled it so well and the line moved quickly. Everyone was so nice and the buffet stayed well stocked and clean. We will definitely come back. read more

We decided to give them a try after coming back from a quick vacation. We were told that if we ordered off the menu, it would take about 30 to 40 minutes since most people came for the buffet (which looked okay, but we try to avoid them). I got the mushroom Swiss burger and my wife got the catfish po boy. They were worth the wait. We left with a to go fried cheesecake order which was outstanding as well. Tried this place for the first time for their Christmas Eve prime rib and seafood boil buffet. The cons is what we start off first. The parking lot is extremely small with hard navigation and really sharp turns while I appreciate the authenticity and rustic parts of the restaurant seating could be a little bit bigger and spaced out to be more comfortable for guests as well as updated plates silverware. For the pros do not let the looks of this restaurant keep you from going in it was some of the best prime rib buffet I've ever had the shrimp boil was by far the most flavorful shrimp I've ever had was the potatoes and sausage and spice was only medium and well done prime rib. There was no rare, medium rare. I still appreciate it and the Ajou was fantastic, the buffet came with a salad bar, a hot bar and a dessert bar all of which you could tell were authentic, southern comfort food cuisine the staff it was really busy that night so our table didn't get hit as much as we preferred. It was still great service nice staff with high energy and really sweet and kind respectful people, my Arnold Palmer is the best Arnold Palmer I've ever had the sweet tea was the perfect touch of sweet tea. I prefer if they had served with steak knives that would've been nice and a different kind of roll personally, the price you can't meet for a prime rib and see if you boil buffet, we would definitely be coming back to the next buffet! read more

I was visiting relatives in Roanoke and we all went to Gedneys for dinner. We each placed our order and waited. They were a little slow but since they were busy, it wasn't surprising except for the fact my food was never brought out. After a few inquiries to our waitress and waiting quite a while, I asked for the manager. It took a long time for the manager to show up and she apologize and offered a complimentary dessert, but pretty much just shrugged it off that I never received any food. September 1 st , we got there before the crowd , my husband and I both ordered Ben's Ribeye cooked medium rare , both had pink sticks in them . One was medium rare the other was medium well . The waitress I think was Kayla she's new , came and checked on us once the outside was over cooked but thought it would get better the more inside I got . She finally came back a second time and I told her she talked to the blond running the register that acted like she could careless when I went and paid . Needless to say me and my family won't be back . Thankful Opelika is opening a Texas Roadhouse there I know it will be right . The food was exceptional. Also a great place for a family event. Really the only good place to eat in the area. I had the onion for an appetizer. I had the classic burger and fries which was around 10 dollars and most meals are. Family I was with had steak and there were no complaints. I highly suggest eating here. read more

I went for their traditional Thanksgiving buffet. The way they do their buffet, they give you a choice of one meat, hand you a plate with that meat on it, and you're on your own to finish the plate with vegetables, etc. I asked for the turkey and dressing. I got a small dollop of dressing - with one piece of turkey in it. I counted. One. Square, 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches, estimated. I sat down with my food and began eating. I was never acknowledged by a server - never. I was never asked what I wanted to drink, and was never brought anything to drink. I should add that the restaurant was only half-full - it was 2:30 in the afternoon - and there were at least six servers on duty. This is not acceptable. I will not be back. I ate my food, and told the cashier that I never got any drink. They comped the meal - no loss to them - they only wasted one small piece of turkey on me. read more

I have reviewed this resturant before about a year ago. Since I have been back several times on Sunday a few weeks ago I went on a week day if possible the food was better than on Sundays. We come hunting every year from out of state and this is our "go to" restaurant. They have a nice fresh well stocked salad bar. The ribeye is very good and is our favorite item on the menu. The prime rib is excellent also. The nightly specials including the hamburger steak smothered is very good. The portions are big and the sides are fresh and tasty. The top restaurant in the area, can't go here. The boys from North Carolina love this place. read more

Located on highway 431 near the intersection of Franklin and Courtney Roads, Gedney's Restaurant and Grill has a great buffet or you can order off the menu. I opted for the buffet and could not have been happier. When you walk in the door you immediately fall into the line for the buffet. The chicken and dressing station is the first stop and is worth the wait! The food is home cooked and is very good quality. The collards tasted like my father in law made them and the fried okra, candied yams and fried chicken were spectacular. As you can see, I didn't leave room for desserts. But, the candied yams could have been considered dessert! Gedneys is worth a day trip for the meal. read more

Have been there several times while visiting my dad, their ribeye is always cooked perfectly, very tender and flavorful. My only gripe with them is they don't have real butter for the baked potato, they have that half-butter/half margarine spread that just doesn't taste right. I am from over in Georgia about 40 miles from Roanoke. Today I decided after church to check out this family style restaurant. I had seen there ad on Facebook plus had saw several positive reviews on this restaurant. So with that said here goes. I will make a check sheet. 1: Food was very good. We had 3 people had chicken, chicken dressing and roast beef all was great. The food bar was great green beans, butter beans, corn, English peas, mac and cheese, cream potatoes, turnip greens, sweet potatoes and much more were very good. 2: Salad bar is not extensive but fresh and all items fresh. 3: Desserts are limited but very good. Who needs a large dessert offering when the food is good. 4: The staff is very attentive, respectful and make you feel like you are are important to them. Very refreshing to see people do their job well. Great people add to the good food. I recommend if in the area try it out. The week of 1/6/20 they are closed so call ahead to see if open this week. My only complaint is that as an adult with a smaller appetite, you can only order off the children's menu if you are 10 years old or younger. The food was okay, good prime rib, but it took a very long time to arrive (try over 1 hour and we arrived at 5;30 p.m. on a Thursday). 2nd waitress was very nice and tried her best. First waitress didn't bother to get us menus and wanted to take our drink orders right away. We would have ordered differently had we 1st had access to the menu. Ladies room flooded with approximately two inches of water, held back by dish towels. Had to hold niece in air for her to do her business and wash her hands. We regret ordering dessert, as after 35 minutes, it still hadn't arrived. We sent the younger children home and waited even longer for 3 desserts. How could 3 desserts take that long? I write as a former restaurant waitress and hostess. I do not have unrealistic expectations. But this was just unacceptable and sad read more

This was our first time to do our Thanksgiving dinner at their restaurant. The food was good and tasty --- no regrets. In fact, I got nothing on my plate that I didn't enjoy. Their deserts were good too. The only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 was because there was an extra charge if you wanted meat with your dressing. It had nothing to do with the quality of the food or surroundings. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We opted to not pay extra. Best catfish in town. All the food is great. Little pricey though. I don't mind paying good money for good food. But they nickel and dime you to death. Want a to go cup? $$$. Extra ranch? $$$. We went for lunch and had the buffet. We usually go to country buffets in Lagrange and that's what I'm comparing it to. There wasn't a huge selection on the buffet. The rolls were really good. Other than that, the rest of the food was very average. The corn tasted like it came straight from a can. I will go back and try ordering off the menu to see if it's any better. read more

Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the last time we ordered one of the specialty ribeyes it was cooked medium rare and was full of grisile & 3/4 of it was inedible. We go several times a month and this was the first time something was wrong. I usually get the filet mignon cooked medium and it's delicious. Thick cut, no fat and I never leave anything on my plate. Salad bar is excellent. Gedney's is the only place I order dessert because they have strawberry shortcake and hot fudge cake that is out of this world good! If you can agree on which to get, you can order one and share. It comes in a serving bowl. Not a cereal bowl. read more

Very rude! Almost aggravated to wait on you. Food was overpriced and the food on the bar was old.

First off, both my roommate and I checked the prices online before we bothered to go to this establishment, and the prices were extremely wrong. We got there, and felt like we had been lied to. The waitress was nice, but other than that, I was not very satisfied. I got the chili, and it tasted exactly like canned chili, and they gave me a very very small salad bowl. No bigger than my fist. When I went to the salad bar, the lettuce was brown, and the food looked like it had been sitting out for a while. I was extremely disappointed going here. They charge an exorbitant amount of money for food that is not very good, big or filling. I will definitely not return any time in the near future. read more
