Friendly, small, neighborhood gelato shop in Gracia with great flavors, some of which are quite unusual, and a welcoming, multilingual staff. While traveling in Europe (Rome, Croatia, and Spain) for the past three months we have eaten quite a bit of gelato, and Gelatology served us some of the best. Eating gelato in Europe is a much more public act than eating ice cream in the United States, which is usually performed in private. I prefer the European way, and many times have eaten gelato as a meal while walking or sitting at a sidewalk table. My wife and I have developed screening criteria for selecting a place to buy and eat gelato: 1) not too many flavors, 2) no weird or bright colors. Gelatoloy serves natural beige and brown colors of gelato, as well as some more colorful real fruit sorbets. All of the flavors my family tasted were terrific! My favorites are the pistachio, dark chocolate, cafe, and the totally original Imperial stout salted caramel (which won the prize for originality in an international gelato competition.
