Some different friends who also Disc Golf had said it was one of the best courses around so I finally felt the urge to make it up there. The open a little early which is nice too. Entering the park is impressive in itself. There are so mnay things going on from a large lake spanning waterpark, wildlife all over, a BMX park that's a good size, and of course, the disc course. The things some had said that was obvious immediately, is that the place had far more rolling hills than any park or place in South Florida. I started off at the top of a hill and had to through down to the bottom of the hill. There were shots later where I had to throw over a pond and up a hill. From the elevation changes to the great forest and water holes, it really was worth the drive. Heck, I've been back 2 more times this month already.

During the COVID lockdown, walking the trails became my favorite pastime. Especially as a pregnant woman looking for peace and fresh air, lol. Years later, those same trails are still a favorite activity for my son and me. More recently, I've taken up disc golf and was excited to find out the group I joined regularly plays at the Okeeheelee course. It's been such a fun and engaging experience! Just yesterday, I attended a picnic at one of the park's pavilions, and it was wonderful. The swings and playground next to the pavilion made it perfect for a family-friendly event. The space provided plenty of seating and shade, so everyone could enjoy themselves without being overwhelmed by the heat. There's still so much of this park I haven't explored yet, and I genuinely look forward to continuing to visit for years to come.

Head north and the canal leads to the north end of Howard Park where there is tiny pond that was once the Stub Canal and Turning Basin. The basin served as a link between West Palm Beach and the agricultural communities next to Lake Okeechobee. In 1918 an extension also called a stub from the 40 mile West Palm Beach Canal was created to carry it directly into the West Palm Beach business district. It was large enough for barges that carried passengers and produce from Belle Glade. Boat service started on May 17, 1918. After a railroad line and highway opened in 1925, boat travel fell out of favor and the 1928 Hurricane destroyed the boat docks. Now all that is left is a small retention pond with a fountain. Today you can access the Stub Canal from the 1.8 acre Stub Canal Park. You can take it south to Pine Lake or north to Howard Park. The Stub Canal Park serves as a launch area for small to medium sized boats motorized boats and jet skis and non motorized canoes and kayaks. Once you reach Pine Lake, it is a popular place for fishing where you can expect to catch largemouth black bass, spotted tilapia, bluegill, and redear sunfish. What is really nice about this park is that there is no charge for boat trailers. A lot of boat launch parks charge at least $10 to park or require a city pass. There is no meters here so you can launch and enjoy your day.

Lake Clarke Shores is a small residential town in Palm Beach County. It was founded by John Newton…read moreClarke who arrived in Lake Worth in 1889. He worked various jobs before establishing a homestead and fishing camp. Lake Clarke bears his name. The land was developed into a town when West Palm Beach attorney William Travers purchased land that became exposed when the waters of Lake Clarke fell. He developed the land and sold lots and by 1956 there were 150 registered voters living in the area. The town was fearful of being annexed into West Palm Beach so in 1957 they voted to incorporate themselves as the town of Lake Clarke Shores. Memorial Park was created with public land at the head of Lake Clarke. Walter Travers deeded the land to the town in exchange for issuing a permit for his water company. For years it remained an unnamed area although some people referred to it as Travers Park. When Paul H. Cline became Lake Clarke Shores first casualty in Vietnam on February 6, 1968, the council decided to name it Memorial Park to honor Paul and anyone else who would pass away during war time. Another young man who lost his life is also honored here. Scott Alan Powell was only thirteen when he was struck and killed by a car as he bicycled along Pine Tree Lane while delivering newspapers. Donations from residents provided the plaque in Memorial Park for Scott. Memorial Park has benches and picnic tables so you can sit and take in the view of Lake Clarke. It also is the site of the town Christmas tree. The memorial plaques are by the fountain. A few steps away from Memorial Park is Pine Tree Park that has a heart course. I have driven by this park so many times. I am glad I finally stopped in today for a few minutes to take in the peaceful vibe and calming water view.

Only thing is I wish they would have pushed for live bait. It is more $ btw but so worth it.
