Here we go. On writing this review I have never had so many other people give an opinion. In the name of fair play however this review will reflect the view of most of my fellow diners. Expectation varied to begin with- were we comparing this place to a city eatery or to a regional location? Between us we had a selection of meals, including a potato, bacon and fennel soup. Some of my fellow diners thought the soup was smooth, tasty and quite nice. One said the soup was way too garlicky and this was of great concern. Is this a personal choice? Or a bias against a particular kind of food ingredient? Personally I only had a taste and is my usual complaint I found it a little heavy handed on the salt. The mains consisted of flathead fishtails with sumac accompanied by slaw and thin chips. Those that had this thought it was 'perfect' and quite delicious. I had the lamb shank which was beautifully cooked and with a wonderful accompaniment of vegetables including mushrooms, capsicum and eggplant. This was a good meal. Hearty, interesting and equal to any dish in good restaurant city or country Victoria! The chicken Parma was pedestrian at best but filled the gap. The staff were overall friendly, if a little flustered with the various demands and jockeying for prime service position in our group. I would recommend the Gellibrand. Your dinning experience will depend largely on your preferences and what you select. Overall however worth a try if your in the area. read more
