However, we do have a nice story. The manager said she'd been training up a new staff who'd accidentally charged our credit card twice. Although the charge was immediately reversed, she gave us a bottle of red wine to apologise. I really think this is a nice example of customer service: both friendly and professional, and I wish the managers/owners (who seem to be new) success.

Secluded and equiped with everything you need for a romantic weekend away. Alan the owner was very helpful and friendly and communication before we arrived during and after was very easy. The little touches in the home made it that much cosier and relaxing. Fresh flowers in a few places, bottle of champers, chocolates, continental breakfast. Thinking back on it makes me more relaxed! All kitchen facilities, bbq, deck, fire place, spa, two shower heads in the shower (a bonus when the partner loves boiling hot water and I enjoy warm but enjoying the company at the same time!). There's also a massive king size bed. I sort of wish I lived there but also having the same exact layout and everything in the city! Worth the splurge and indulgent weekend with your partner.

Also appreciate being able to leave our stuff at the reception desk since our bus came 5 hours after the required checkout time. Great little place we'd recommend for visitors to Port Campbell!

Okay, this place is actually a part of a motel, but the bistro can literally stand on its own. It…read moreis one of those old country buildings but when you walk inside it has certainly been done up to look like you typical cafe-bar. The best thing about this place though are the views - they are amazing, looking over the tropical rainforest and the traquil fields where the alpaca's graze. They also have an outdoor area where you can enjoy the views first hand, and it is also non-smoking (the smokers are relegated around the corner to where the dogs sleep). As for the service, well it is what you can expect from a place in the middle of the country, and that is top notch. Okay, it is on the Great Ocean Road, so it does mean that you are going to get your fair share of tourists coming through here, but still, it is a great place to stop for a rest on your journey.

We led into the visit with a BBQ lunch at Deep Lake at Derrinallum which was very enjoyable, with a pleasant number of people around engaging in yachting, kayaking, camping and chatting. Arrived at Darlinton's beautifully refurbished Elephant Bridge Hotel at 2pm complimented with a warm welcome from owner Karin. If you are looking for an escape into a totally different dimension of life, as we were, I suggest you take a picnic rug and lay under one of the large palm trees on the undulating slope in the rear garden, with a good book and a friend to read it to you. The clouds and sky are a beauty we take for granted and rarely we take the time to lie on our backs to observe and appreciate them. On this day the sky was a brilliant blue and the fluffy white Cumulus clouds contrasted with the distinct feathery lines of the Cirrus clouds, reminiscent of those often depicted in early paintings, all of which helped to transport us back to a time that was fitting for such a fine old building. As requested in advance, Karin prepared a very pleasant evening meal and joined us later over tea, coffee and wine. Conversation flowed easily and Karin is an excellent hostess. The rooms are immaculately furnished and decorated to perfection and the bed comfortable, with a height that immediately makes my mind flash back to my grandmother's high bed from my childhood. The bathroom is large, exquisite and conveniently located. Breakfast of a magnificent nut muesli, and a generous variety of toasted breads, with a selection of spreads, is provided with the option of adding a cooked breakfast for an additional cost. To complete the day we ventured back into Derrinallum and later onto Terang Hotel Bistro, next door to IGA, for lunch, which was also an excellent meal. In the past a climb up Mt Noorat has added an interesting completion to our stay at Darlington's Elephant Bridge Hotel. Noticed on a more recent visit that the Mt Elephant Tourist Centre is open on a Sundays 1-4pm. Thus it is easy to pad out a stay at Darlington's Elephant Bridge Hotel with some simple, pleasant activities that allow the body to slow down and recharge.

I usually attribute comfort inn to more motel style accomodation. Low expectation, overnight cos u have to sleep somewhere type of place. Although admittedly, this one seems to have a lot more care out into it. The couple managing this place obviously takes a lot of pride and keeping of the rooms. Shower was clean, the queen room has enough space for a small 2 seater sofa and a single armchair. Overall it was a pleasant stay for me and likely to return. This is definitely my pick of the accomodation in this area.

The rooms were exceptional for a Comfort Inn chain and the best we have stayed at in the chain. Rooms are very well appointed and looked after and the couple that run the hotel are lovely and clearly take pride in the accomodation and how things are maintained. Bed was a king size and comfy and the bathroom clean and with everything you need. Would definitely make this our choice on our next visit!

It was probably quite fortuitous when I came here because the new owners were in the process of renovating the place and turning it from a tired old country pub in the middle of nowhere into a much more fashionable establishment that doubles as tea rooms. In fact one of the things that they specialise in is high tea, though when I was passing through I didn't have time to really indulge. However, I must say that they have done a fantastic job, and the gardens out the back are simply amazing. Oh, and I should also mention that the staff are really friendly, and quite talkative, but then that is something that I would expect with country pubs.

The location was very convenient for seeing the fraudulently-named 12 Apostles, especially if you want to be there at dawn. The cabin was chilly, as the entire continent of Australia and every establishment in it seem to be right now. But the heaters in the bedrooms and the heating pads on the beds worked great and that just made everything cozier. There was plenty of hot water. I thought it might run out, but it never did! The towels were clean and didn't have that mildewy smell that I'd been starting to think was endemic in this hemisphere. Could everything have been a bit newer and less worn down? Sure, but it seems like everything is always just a little bit shabbier than you expect when you're traveling, especially after COVID. It was clean and quiet, and the location was great, and that's what matters most. Be careful on the road in and out. It tends to be overrun with kangaroos at dawn and dusk. They are easily startled, and their preferred method of escape is to dive directly under your front tires.
