I have no had ONE bad experience here, but TWO. I took in one shoe, which had a strap that was coming up from the seam, the lady who helped me was very nice and charged me $12 to glue it properly back. She informed me it's likely this will happen to the other side and that if it does to bring it in and she will arrange the price as if it where for both shoes. Several months later, the other side did the same, i brought it in and the man who was working the back came up to help me... he told me it would be $25, I informed him I got the other side fixed HERE for $12, he said it must have been a long time ago and continued to explain all the work he had to do and justify his price. I'm not confrontational so agreed to pay and move on. Fast forward one year. I Purchased a pair of shoes for my daughter (who is 3 years old). They are leather on the bottom and it is quite slippery, so I brought them in... and the same man told me he could put a liner on the bottom of the shoe and it would fix the problem, he then told me it would be $55. When I seemed surprised and told him I got the shoes on sale for $25, he continued to tell me that he wasn't surprised but that he doesn't compete with Chinese craftsmanship and he charges the same no matter what the size of the shoe is. The shoes are actually Spanish leather shoes, I got at step by step... so the insult wasn't even merited. In other words, if you want to get ripped off and Insulted come here! But im sure there are other businesses that would appreciate and deserve your business. read more

Great little repair shop. Had been going to the shoe repair around the corner on Sunset, next to the Pizza shop but they ruined my favorite old pair of cordovan Loafers, had them for 25 years. Gem was able to make them look a little better after the abuse they encountered around the corner. read more

This place rocks. They have done amazing work making multiple pair of my louboutins come back from the dead. Most recently they made my beige suede over the knee Dior boots look brand new after two years of use. They were able to get rid of every stain. After reading so many great reviews on this place, I gave it a try with 2 pairs of brand new high end designer shoes. One of them, a very simple repair that I frankly could have done myself, was destroyed. Unwearable. And I hardly received an apology. On another pair he did such a sloppy job, leaving pink paint on the black leather in multiple places. Not only did he do a bad job with the shoes, but the guy (joe?) is such a pompous, conceited, obnoxious, and unpleasant person. After the fact I spoke to some friends about him and Gem and they all had similar things to say about them. I guess some people just don't have the time to write a negative review but I'm hoping to save someone the annoyance. read more

The manager of Prada in Design District recommend me this store, I took my new Prada shoes for a fix they made it perfectly (better than the original Prada platform) , they also repair my husband's favorite Gucci shoes and painted the heels of my shoes. Now I am waiting for a repair of some leather pieces (gucci bag, leather jacket and skirt) that my mother kept for more than 20 years in her closet. Please do not bring your shoes here for repair! I had to go back three times to pick up my son's shoes and the job was NOT satisfactory! I wish they would actually give the same amount of effort to working on the shoes as they do to making excuses for the poor work! First the shoes were not ready on the date they posted on the receipt. When I came back the shoes looked as if they were not even touched. I complained and received my first of several lectures from the owner. The shoes are a difficult color, my son is too hard on his shoes, etc. I replied if they couldn't do the job then they should have said so when I dropped the shoes off and BEFORE they accepted my money. I guess they are not aware of what is printed on their window - they do 'impossible' jobs! So the owner reluctantly kept the shoes to try to clean them again. Third time was not a charm - I went to pick them up and they only looked a tiny bit better. I resigned myself that I would never get the results I was looking for or my money back. This place is fantastic! I took a pair of tall leather boots that had been through years of cold winters and looked beyond help. Both zippers were broken, the leather was rough, and the wooden heel was worn down from so much use. When I took them out of the bag I kept saying "WOW!" They looked absolutely brand new and beautiful. The couple that owns Gem Shoe Repair are incredibly friendly and helpful, quoted me a reasonable price (lower than other shops I visited that day), finished the shoes in only a couple of days, and also gave me tips on how to stretch another pair of boots I was thinking of having adjusted. The boot stretching actually worked on my own and they saved me at least $100. Highly recommended! read more

Don't waste your money on this shoe repair place. I took a leather purse to re-stich and clean, I paid $50 and the purse looks exactly the same as when I brought it. They don't even give you a bag for your purse or shoes. Horrible service and extremely pricey. Very upset! read more

Gem always does a great job. I recently took a pair of my husband's favorite loafers in, thinking that they could not save them as they are so old and the leather of the top portion had become detached from the sole, I guess from wear/age. They rebuilt the shoes and my husband is thrilled, he said they are better than before and so comfy. Hands down they are miracle workers. I brought them a Gucci handbag in soft, light leather that had absorbed dye from blue jeans. The bag was almost a lost cause, but Gem didn't give up. When treatment didn't work, they suggested dyeing the bag a similar color. It worked. The price was more than reasonable for salvaging my bag. don't bring your shoes to these people. we brought our christian louboutins for repair on the sole. they painted 4 of the shoes on the and let the paint drip. they offered to repair them and we let them keep them. took three weeks to get the shoes from there to wear no repair was done and paid for the repair in advance and lost closed to $500.00. horrible customer service and lied to about the job. not to mention our shoes aren't worth anything. read more
