Fun Sunday afternoon jaunt. Well worth the drive from Sunapee area for any rock hound. Interesting samples of quartz, amethyst, jade and geodes (bought a galena geode from Morocco). Holy rock heaven. There's where I was transported to for about 2 hours this weekend and what a wonderful experience it was. I had head about the place from a friend who is into crystals, gems, and minerals as the Mecca for such things and had to check it out for myself. And it truly is an experience of its own. First of parking is on the street and the shop begins right as you enter the driveway. I immediately caught sight of what I thought was stacked firewood but was in fact log sized chunks of selenite! To the left were huge slabs of amethyst and stones cut in half to be bookends. Among the other things in the 'rock garden' tables of various stones, split open and exposed to the elements. (Don't be surprised if something found its home under a rock you might fancy!) further back outside looks like a workstation with even more 'book ends' and slabs of polished stone. Heading up into the store there is a porch area with plastic and cardboard boxes of crystals and stones. Inside, are more fine and delicate beading and jeweling stones. Some are loose, some are drilled with holes already, and some are strung together on thread. You can walk around here for hours, take multiple loops and still not see everything. (I must have taken three of four loops before finally telling myself it was time to stop). Prices are reasonable - and a lot are done out by weight. I managed to get out spending under $50 since I purchase mostly natural rocks and smaller items (small bookends, selenite, labradorite, sage, African glass, Quartz, and a lucky geode). This place is AMAZING! They have so many stones and rocks. Their bead selection is unlike anything I've ever seen. I have been to this place many times and eventually I started making jewelry...so this is the place I'd get my beads from. I mean it is insane how much the shop has! I highly recommend visiting if you ever get the chance. It's off the road in a neighborhood-type area, you'd never know it was there cause it's so tucked away. I moved to another state recently but when I lived in New Hampshire, I'd make the hour long drive without hesitation because it was such a fun treat to stop by and explore. read more

3rd Review. I have to say. I read both before me - the 4 star had me set to go - the one star had me changing my mind. So my boyfriend and I decided to chance it - I assumed I would just either agree one way or another with one of these two yelp reviews. I was so relieved! This place is awesome! A senseless act of cruelty and careless disrespect for life. This was our impression of Gemstar Gemstone Co. My husband and I travelled 2 hours to visit this place on our 7th wedding anniversary. We had decided to gift each other a large amethyst cathedral to put in our entrance hall. We found the one we wanted outside. We wandered around for a bit, and came across a very large spider trapped in a deep plastic bucket full of polished stone. I remarked upon it's size and said out loud "what should we do?" I was talking to my husband, but a slovenly dressed man wearing glasses approached and said " You step on it!" I ignored him. He seemed to think it was a funny thing to say as he looked in the bucket and wandered off. My husband found a long piece of rock and left it in the bucket for the spider to use to crawl out later. It was shy and trying to conceal itself. We then went inside the shop. It reeked of cigarette smoke and I was extremely disappointed to see the slovenly man behind the counter. My feelings for the place instantly shifted. The other 2 people working there (one of which was a female) neither greeted us or smiled. We picked out a few little trinkets for friends inside the shop and left them in a basket while we went back outside to get our cathedral. On the way we checked on the spider, the shop assistant followed us and asked if it was still in the bucket, we said yes. But before we knew what was happening he picked up the long rock my husband had put in the bucket and slammed it down on the spider, killing it (or worse, maiming it). He put the lid on the bucket, sneered at us and walked off, he knew perfectly well he had shocked us both terribly. Sickened. My husband and I simply walked back to the car and drove away. We were so disturbed by this disgusting display of senseless killing. I'm not even fond of spiders! But it wasn't harming anyone, it was outside and it was helpless. The experience ruined our special day. We will tell everyone we know to stay away from these IDIOTS at Gemstar Gemstone Co. and I will write this up as a post on our website. read more

Worth going out of your way to shop at..have visited there only twice during vacations...but wouldn't miss a trip there when we go. Their quality and their prices are what anyone looks for and they provide that. They also carry a very high grade of unique stones that I was looking for also. We drove 3 hours to this store in utter excitement, only to be greeted by the rudest people. They had 5mins till they closed, which is our fault, but we were told they were open till 7pm, apparently it's 5pm. We asked the woman if we picked out our stones in 5 mins BEFORE they close if they would serve us. She told us to get lost and had a grin on her face, she got such a kick out of denying us service, THEN proceeded to tell another woman in the store that she had 5 mins to pick out and buy what she wanted. DO NOT BUY STONES FROM THESE NEGATIVE PEOPLE!! They clearly install bad energy into all there stones, and it's not worth the amount of cleansing you would have to do to rejuvenate them. Being in an energetic business, you would think they would practice love and light, but hardly any of the crystals shine on this property. I wasn't really drawn to anything in particular, but now I know it is because the universe would never want me to use one of their stones in my healing practice. read more

In contrast to what the previous reviewer Nicole said, I could not be more happy to have entered into this shop. People will go out of their way to help you. I have found the people that work there to be both very informative and helpful. I have been at many shops that sell rocks, minerals, crystals and the like. However, by far this is like the Barnes and Nobles of places that sell rocks and minerals. They have everything you could possibly need. Plus, I find that their prices are affordable. I enjoy seeing small businesses that do business well. Gemstar is one of those places. To get the whole experience, I suggest going there in the warmer months. A good portion of the place is covered up during the winter time. If you go other times of the year you will get the whole experience. read more

Great deals on beads and jewelry!! A hidden gem. A bit hard to find, way down a dirt road and then just off to the side.

Gemstar is literally the crown jewel of minerals, beads, jewelry supplies, and much more. I have shopped there more times than I can count, and each and every time I have found fabulous deals. It is well worth a trip to Enfield to visit this amazing shop and all its treasures. All employees are friendly and generous with their time and knowledge, and I can't begin to say the number of treasures I've purchased there. Even if all you do is just look at everything, you will have an amazing visit. I was so saddened to hear of death of the owner, "Jimmy," last December. He was such a kind, funny, generous and knowledgeable man, and I and so many others will miss him dearly. read more

The owners rock, they are awesome, knowledgeable, and ALWAYS helpful. When the prices have to go up, the owners apologize. Any stock left in the store is left at the old price not marked up. Earlier this year, I traveled here with 2 friends from Albany, NY, looking forward to a great afternoon of perusing a wonderful selection of gems and crystals. We looked around outside for awhile, then went into the shop. It was almost like sensory overload! Walking up and down the aisles, I came upon a shelf with a box of a particular crystal I had been searching for. Excited, I began to examine them, when from out of nowhere, a very rude older female employee rushed over and angrily told me I couldn't touch any of the boxes on that shelf. She made sure she said this in a loud voice, in front of several other customers. I was embarrassed and made to feel like I was trying to steal something, which was certainly not the case. I explained that that since there was no sign indicating otherwise, I assumed the items on that shelf were for sale. She said nothing, looked me up and down with what I presume is a well-practiced snottiness, turned her back on me and left the area. The gems were great, but they seemed to be laid out randomly. You need to bring a sturdy box with you, or they will give you one. Other than the stifling hot store, very narrow aisles, and the rudeness of an elderly sales woman who is in desperate need of a course in positive customer relations, it was a great trip. Making the 3+ hour journey each way was worth it. We are planning on making a return trip in the next few weeks. But, if I have a negative experience with that woman again, I'll be contacting the owners, and GemStar will have lost several disappointed customers. read more

Get directions first and call to check hours! It is really hidden! But this place is so worth the drive. I recommend a summer trip because you can really appreciate the Geode garden out front and the long drive is more fun when you aren't hitting frost heaves! There are thousands of items to choose from and the variety is awesome. It's not just glass, or just gemstones, there's sterling, gold-filled, base metals, cloisonné, crystals, cords, stones, cabochons, and way more than I can list. I go to stock up on gemstone strands in unusual cuts or sizes and sterling silver. The prices are so great I can afford to use the items in pieces I sell, and people still comment on how well-priced my jewelry is. Can't wait to visit again! read more
