Often when I think of General Mills, I think of Cheerios or cereal they carry in general. But my favorite product is one of their snacks: Nature Valley granola bar. Granola can be hard to find that doesn't contain almond or another nut, but I've eaten this one safely for years. It does have a may contain, but thankfully no reactions to date. Additionally, another General Mills staple I always have is Annie's Mac n Cheese. And yes, I store in my fridge as sometimes you can get bugs in your pantry for dry items that I try to avoid with rice and pasta. General Mills is a historic company that growing up I took for granted. The many cereals were always family favorites. I used to snack on Cheerios and for years I stopped because of the added cornstarch. I've got mixed feelings about how my body reacts when I eat them but they sure taste good and are easy on my blood sugar. I just heard they are going to remove the artificial ingredients from their products like the red dye. I will say they are very smart about their marketing techniques! Take em or leave em. It's your choice. For me, I'm enjoying for now but like everything else (except Peanut Butter) I'm sure I'll get sick of Cheerios eventually. read more

I love Cheerios, more specifically Honey Nut Cheerios, which means I'd probably be better off eating a slice of Chocolate Layer Cake for breakfast. But at least I know what I'm putting in my body. Nearing their hundred year anniversary, General Mills out of Minneapolis is a $20B processed food manufacturer marketing products as benign as Gold Medal flour, Fiber One supplements and Pillsbury crescent rolls... they also market glow in the dark breakfast cereals like Lucky Charms and Trix which are optimally consumed with rolling papers and a black light. Recently, the company announced that they will eliminate all artificial dyes in their products by 2028 (coincidentally the next presidential election cycle...so we'll see.) This initiative begs the question; how do you continue to make Trix and Lucky Charms radioactive and visible from space without scientific intervention? Questions like this fascinate me and I can't wait for their solution. In the meantime, my bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios followed by a Kool-Aid chaser awaits. I like General Mills! Who doesn't like Chex Mix - especially the crispy brown (rye?) crackers that just burst with goodness! And who can turn down a nice bag of Bugles?!?!?! Or the similar snack, Gardettos? There's something irresistible about the crunchiness and flavors of all of these crunchy salty-ish treats! What flour brand is more reliable and established than Gold Medal Flour? And what baked goods and meal products brands are more reliable and established than Betty Crocker, Old El Paso, or Pillsbury? Fiber One bars are not bad and are relatively healthy, as are Nature Valley Granola Bars! Totino's pizzas, pizza rolls, bites, and squares got many of us through those lean college years and beyond! Although I waw never a fan of breakfast cereals (of which many are made by General Mills), you would be hard pressed to find a Mom of a child today who doesn't have a Ziploc bag or a Tupperware container of Cheerios in her purse or diaper bag, or both. Cheerios are a huge hit with little children! Betty Crocker mixes were a big part of nearly everyone's childhood! From cake mixes and ready made frostings, to cookie, brownies, muffins, and bar mixes and even pizza crust, pancake, and potato mixes! Peanut Butter Biscuit Sandwiches: Nature Valley was founded in 1973 with their first product being granola cereal. Who eats granola cereal outside or on the go though!? The company quickly adapted to make granola bars and other more portable snacks, like these biscuits. Additionally, the biscuits are gluten free, no artificial flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup is used. I initially had the misconception that this would be a soft and chewy snack, but the biscuits are firm and cracker like. The biscuit body is made with honey, which contributes a small amount of sweetness and flavor. It's the peanut butter filling though that's the real star. The center is packed with so much of the peanut butter that it is easily the dominant flavor. I was immediately reminded of Nature Valley's Crunchy Granola Bars when I bit into this. Just like the Crunchy Granola, the biscuit sandwich is a little dry but dipping it in milk ameliorates that particular issue. As a lifelong user of Cheerios, I want to say I never got tired of a fresh bowl. We would buy the fruit that was in the picture on the front of the box. Then we sprinkled sugar, And whole milk. Eventually I changed sugar to honey. When my daughter was in her high chair then , I would put some on the tray for her to Pick from. Mmmm , now she is the mother of three and grandmother of one. Wonder if she did the same trick for hers. ? read more
